No rain today but it's windy and 8C (46F). From the archives... a two for one shot of American Avocets at Cooking Lake.

I know that a lot of re-ment collectors are strongly opposed to Disney re-ment, but while I do agree that there should be a good mixture of sets with and without Disney collaboration, I must say that the Stitch cooking set contains a lot of really cute and detailed pieces. Everyone who liked Stitch even a little bit should give it a try in my opinion ;)

Something strange happened with my pink Stitch cupcake... it misses the lower part ;__; It is possible that I lost it when opening the plastic, but I looked everywhere- and when I wanted to take off the lower part on one of the otehr cupcakes, I couldn't get it off... so this is probably really a factory error.

The left cake has strawberry preserves between the layers and is topped with dried cranberries. The right cake has a creamcheese filling between the layers and is topped with frozen snickers.

Having some gourmet freeze dried lunch with a view.

This was really too high for me to be able to get the pollen perfectly in focus, but the flower against the sky was such a contrast I thought it worth including here.

Thanks for stopping

This is the final picture I will post from our trip to France. It all concluded on our final night with a cooking class in Paris. Our main dishes were crepes and a fruit salad. There was not much of a learning curve for either but they were delicious.

An earth oven or cooking pit is one of the most simple and long-used cooking structures, not to be confused with the masonry oven. At its simplest, an earth oven is simply a pit in the ground used to trap heat and bake, smoke, or steam food.

To bake food, the fire is built, then allowed to burn down to a smoulder, and the food is placed in the oven and covered. Steaming is similar; fire-heated rocks are put into a pit and are covered with green vegetation to add moisture, large quantities of food, more green vegetation (and sometimes water) if more moisture is needed to create the steam that is needed to cook the food, and then a final covering of earth is added over everything. The food in the pit can take up to several hours to almost a full day to cook, whether by dry or wet methods. Today, many communities still use cooking pits, at least for ceremonial or celebratory occasions: the Indigenous Fijian lovo, the Hawaiian luau, Māori hāngi and the New England clam bake. One of the great joys of travel is the food. It's even better when you are helped by an expert to cook it yourself!
