Dutch cookbook from Indonesia

Here's a picture from the Betty Crocker Boys & Girls cookbook. How to snazz up your cereal!

I was so excited to find this book in a box outside my door! I am impressed by the speedy delivery from NZ. I've been flipping through the book all morning, I don't know what I will try first..... I've been researching and itching to try making GF sourdough, so maybe her recipe will inspire me to get a starter ready this weekend.

New cookbook by Emma Galloway, author of one of my very favorite whole foods/GF cooking blogs, My Darling Lemon Thyme.

ETA: I was let out of work early so I sat out in the chilly air but warm sun, reading through the recipes. The teacher I work for drove me back to my apartment since we were done so early. We had a really good talk. I felt lighter afterwards, having said out loud and admitted some important things about myself. Things I knew but hadn't verbalized in quite that way. It was refreshing/a revelation.

The potato bun is an old way of baking. Or rather; using cakes that perhaps broke to make a new dough that easily can be formed to anything. Made by K. at Turun Kirjakahvila.

A scrapbook of cuttings and handwritten recipes compiled by Nina Gladys Barker (née Alexander) who was born in the late 1880s and died ca. 1975 and was the wife of Robert Beacroft Barker, merchant and politician in Jamaica. The recipes were probably compiled between 1940 (note that some early recipes were written on the reverse of the letterhead of the "Jamaica Central War Assistance Committee") and 1960. Many are of Jamaican origin. Most are sweet. There are manuscript recipes in other hands but most are in that of Nina Gladys Barker herself. Nina's only child is alluded to in the recipe, "Bruce's birthday cake".

(mostly) vegetarian/vegan cookbooks, and a few books on houseplants

I love "Better Homes and Gardens" cookbooks. Most of them have classic illustrations and fonts that perfectly mirror the design and fashion of the times. And the recipes are pretty good, too.

Das große Kochbuch in Farbe

This is a cookbook that my papaw gave me. It originall belonged to my great-great aunt Grace Herdrick of Ladoga Indiana. It is carefully covered to ensure its safety.

I keep my less used cookbooks in a cupboard above my fridge.

This is the most awesome cookbook crammed full of the best recipes, both for your own enjoyment or gift giving.

The front cover of a cookbook from Spry Shortening. Detail #3. This man definitely has something on his mind besides lemon pie. Thanks to Steve for the date.

Another from the busy mum's cookbook. I've still got to learn to love chicken thighs, and with the 'very low salt' stock and no extra seasoning (so it was Thea suitable) it felt a little bland, but other than that, an easy, good meal to add to the repertoire - slicing and frying the potatoes first, then throwing everything in and leaving it in the oven for an hour. All the children enjoyed it, and a splash of wine in there next time (and seasoning at the table) will make it a family winner, I think.
