Catène de Container ist eine Skulptur in Le Havre in Frankreich.
Die Skulptur befindet sich an markanter Stelle in der Nähe der Einfahrt zum Hafen von Le Havre. Sie wurde im Jahr 2017 von Vincent Ganivet anlässlich des 500. Hafengeburtstags geschaffen und besteht aus farbigen Schiffscontainern, die zu zwei Bögen angeordnet sind. Einer der Bögen, bestehend aus 21 Containern, ist hoch und steil und überbrückt dabei einen kleineren flachen aus 15 Containern zusammengesetzten Bogen. Die Form und Farbgebung der Container erweckt den Eindruck der Verwendung großer Bauklötze.
Insgesamt wiegt die Skulptur 288 Tonnen und erreicht eine Höhe von 28,5 Metern. Sie kommt ohne Stützen aus und nutzt das vom Architekten Antoni Gaudí verwendete Prinzip der Kettenlinie, wobei die Kräfte und Spannungen innerhalb einer Kette zur Stützung genutzt werden.
Der Name Catène de Container geht auf das Lateinische Wort Catène für Kette zurück und bedeutet im Deutschen soviel wie Containerkette. Es ist eine doppelte Anspielung zum einen auf das verwendete Bauprinzip der Kette und zum anderen auf die Lieferkette, in deren Reihe sich auch die Container und letztlich der Hafen befindet.
Die Einweihung erfolgte am 27. Mai 2017. Aufgrund der ungewöhnlichen Form, Größe und markanten Lage wurde die Skulptur in kurzer Zeit zu einem Wahrzeichen Le Havres.
La sculpture, située dans un endroit bien visible près de l'entrée du port du Havre, a été créée en 2017 par Vincent Ganivet pour marquer le 500e anniversaire du port, et se compose de conteneurs maritimes colorés disposés en deux arches1. L'un des arcs, composé de 21 conteneurs, haut et raide, relie un arc plat plus petit composé de 15 conteneurs. La forme et la couleur des conteneurs donnent l'impression d'utiliser de grands blocs de construction.
La sculpture pèse 288 tonnes et atteint une hauteur de 28,5 mètres. Elle n'a pas de support et utilise le principe de la chaînette mis en œuvre dès 1882 par l'architecte Antoni Gaudí à la Sagrada Família à Barcelone, selon lequel les forces et les tensions d'une chaîne sont utilisées pour le soutien d'un arc3.
Le nom Catène de Containers vient du mot latin catena (chaîne) et signifie chaîne de conteneurs. Il s'agit d'une double allusion, d'une part au principe de la chaînette renversée utilisé pour la construction et, d'autre part, à la chaîne d'approvisionnement, dans laquelle se trouvent également les conteneurs et, finalement, le port.
En raison de sa forme inhabituelle, de sa taille et de son emplacement bien en vue, la sculpture, inaugurée le 27 mai 2017, est rapidement devenue un point de repère au Havre.

Den Nord-Ostsee-Kanal passieren pro Jahr ca. 30.000 Schiffe den Kanal. Er durchquert auf seiner Länge von 98 Kilometern das Land Schleswig-Holstein zwischen Brunsbüttel und Kiel-Holtenau. Damit erspart er die Fahrt um die Kimbrische Halbinsel (Jütland) durch Nordsee, Skagerrak und Kattegat. Mit dem Kanal ist die Wegstrecke je nach Abfahrts- und Zielhafen im Schnitt 250 Seemeilen (rund 460 km) kürzer.

The relatively new East Midlands Gateway terminal is operated by Maritime, hence this particular loco cropping up on this flow may not entirely be coincidence.
The service seems well-loaded and in demand with the challenges at the ports in the South East, so hopefully it becomes a permanent fixture, with maybe more to follow?
