Hot Toys Superman from Batman vs Superman next to Phicen M34! The superman figure has a lot more bulk! Superman is slightly taller but the M34 actually stands a little taller when wearing shoes or boots!

Here's a little comparison pic I threw together of the two SHIPs I've built so far. The last one wasn't even built for SHIPtember, I finished it a few months after the fact. :/
The Sunset's Dawn is definitely the superior ship, since the old one is basically just an elaborate box. The first one was larger, though, if that means anything.
I was bored and wanted to see the difference of the Sears Tower vs the First Christian Church. They are both built at the 1/200th scale.

"Comparison"

Fall came early in Utah this year. As a result, I frequently found myself struggling to find new perspectives from which to capture new scenes, primarily due to time constraints. This week I found myself not too far from Mount Nebo, in the Wasatch Mountains. As the sun began dipping over the horizon, I saw the highlights of the sun glistening among the leaves in the treetops of some nearby aspens. "This is it, go back!" I yelled out to the driver and colleague -- actually my beautiful wife. She turned the vehicle around and parked. I scrambled down the hillside, setup my tripod, and captured this scene. A scene that called out to me, making a comparison of the already-dormant aspens on the left, and the living, vibrant aspens on the right! Amazing sight! And a special thanks to Josh for coming along, too!
So, the Carol Ferris doll has got a new body, which is why I pulled out Barbies with different body types to compare her to them. And while I was at it, I thought more people might be interested in that. So, here are the inevitable comparison shots. ;)

Lots of blabbering about the fitting of heads and a couple forums linking to another photo of mine prompted me to document what the doll bodies look like without heads. (Reference photos are one of my favorite things on flickr, so I'm happy to help other people out there!)
I nearly always remove the hooks from neck pegs when I get a new doll body. I found a lot of people linking to my photo of a pegless Fashionista body as reference to someone's question about removing heads in a doll forum, so I thought it'd be good to show the peg intact.
The neck peg's hooks with the Pivotal Sinatra body (woo new doll body) are pretty standard for a lot of Barbie dolls. Fashionistas and Monster High bodies have an additional extended peg piece for some reason, but it's fine to cut those off, too. If you're concerned about a Monster High head being floppy, just cut off the hook part and leave the extended piece to help the head balance. (I cut it off for my hybrids, though, because it was really long and wouldn't fit in the smaller heads.)
Momoko has a really nice peg without hooks. I only see 2 downsides to the neck situation on this body. 1) A lot of the necks start to crack, similar to how Barbies of the early 1990s would crack and break. This makes head swapping tricky, since each swap makes for more opportunities for the plastic to break. (This body is currently headless, since I don't know which head to put on it. Whatever head it gets next needs to be a long-term solution. The last head swap was almost a year ago, by the way.)
The Pop Life Kelly Pivotal body had the same neck peg as the Sinatra body. When I warm up heads in a heating pad to soften the plastic, I will let the neck piece sit in the heat a bit longer after the head is removed. Then, I cut off the hook part near the base of the vertical part, which goes really quickly with the warmed/softened plastic and a sharp xacto knife. (Woo, new blades!) I like to cut off a few extra chunks, so it doesn't catch on anything while inside the head and so I don't injure myself on sharp parts later. When switching around heads last night, the absence of the hook part meant the heads popped off really quickly. (I had a head fly out of my hands!)
The Obitsu body is really great but obviously has a different neck post design. The upper torso is a soft plastic cover that can be removed, and an inner torso mechanism provides the movement. The upper part of the neck under the torso-sleeve has a joint that allows head tilting. This means it doesn't have to rely on the rounded neck post like the other bodies have, so the neck post just ends there, creating a ledge or lip. For dolls like Momoko that have a recessed neck opening that starts behind the jaw, it rests fine and doesn't show. But for Mattel heads (like the other head shown in that same link), they have the upper part of their neck moulded as part of the head. This works with the rounded neck post but makes the head sit too high on the obitsu's neck post, making the neck look too long. I had to open up the Mattel head's opening and squish it past that lip-ledge to "shorten" the neck.
Many action figures have this same neck difference from Mattel's rounded posts and even other action figures, so it's a common issue. Some companies, like Hot Toys, will have a neck extender piece that can be removed. My Abbey Chase action figure has most of her neck moulded as part of her head and has the neck joint where the neck meets the shoulders. The strange thing is that I got the idea to put Abbey's head on another Pivotal body, and the skintones actually matched. Now I have to decide whether or not to risk cutting up her head/neck in order to give her a body that might suit her.
I knew the shadows under his chair might be a problem so I just created a large soft shaded area which seems to work ok. I also had to fudge the blown highlight on his guitar. I have shots where I moved him to stop the reflection, but I liked his expression here.

As mentioned in the previous photo, the not-quite-triangular shape of the cheese slopes causes some weird geometry. To me, the hexagon on the right seems to be more balanced, with each color being the same size, but really it is the one on the left that has each section equal in size.
In the left hexagon, each section has 12 slopes. In the right hexagon, the blue section has 12 slopes while the orange and green sections have 8 slopes each.
Anyway, I just find it a bit intriguing.

I moved the clone doll down so that her heels were even with the other girls. For some reason she has "high heel" feet like the vintage Barbies. Her body is the same height as the factory body, if you take that into account.
Not a clear pic, but I hope you can see the similarities and differences.
This time I dressed the AT027 (on the right) in the a Superman suit from Hot Toys Batman vs Superman and compared him to the original! He's taller but not as muscular! This body is closer to the Man Of Steel figure that Hot Toys released a few years ago!

Cleverly, Nottingham City Transport E400 City 433 had been parked alongside Nottingham Heritage Vehicles Leyland Atlantean 433 at Autokarna 2018. This provided the perfect opportunity to compare the two.
Both seem to have a frown.
Comparison of Cokin filters for IR effect on Illford SFX200. This shot has stacked Circular Polarizer (160) and the Red-Blue Varicolor Polarizer (171). I've found that stacking these two can create a total red washout to the eye, but i have no idea what wavelength range this produces. Technical bits aside, the IR effect is muted, especially in areas that are not in direct sunlight. I believe the vignetting is caused by the circular polarizer.
Nat asked me about Canary's torso compared to a playline torso, so I did a quick comparison pic.
Canary's bust is slightly bigger than the playlines/ Model Muse dolls, so that can share bottoms, but when it comes to tops, the velcro may not fully fasten. It's even one of the reasons the doll was so controversial.
P.S., the other doll is High School Musical School Spirit Sharpay on a Fashion Fever Articulates body.
