Victoria Clock - Grey Scale - Six Sided Clock - The Victoria Tower, Salisbury Dock, by Jesse Hartley, is dated 1848. It is constructed of granite of irregular shaped blocks and takes the form of an octagon with a high tapered circular base which is pierced by round arched openings. Above the base is a string moulding and narrow slits at the first floor below a continuous balcony carried on stone brackets. Higher again are eight circular clock faces and long open slits and round eyes at the top. The tower is crowned by a projecting castellated parapet carried on corbels.

Jiminy Cricket pays a visit.

It was so odd to see a cricket in the middle of the day. I wonder if our current heatwave has confused this little guy?

This pic reminds me of a funny time with my Dad. He'd just bought a digital watch back when they were the latest and greatest gadgets. He and my stepmom were picking me up to go out for dinner and while I was getting ready, Dad showed off his new watch.

Half an hour later, on our way to the restaurant, we could hear a cricket chirping somewhere in the car. Once we were parked, we did a through search of the car and still hadn't found it. We locked the car and went to walk into the restaurant when we all noticed the cricket had somehow come with us. Vera and I searched our purses to avail, when we finally realised the source. It was Dad's new watch. When he was showing it off to me he'd set an alarm on it and none of us having heard what those new fangled electronic things sounded like, we all had assumed we were hearing a cricket.

Having this little guy land on a digital clock reminded me of this and gave me back a great memory of my Dad. Vera and I razzed him about it for the rest of the night, too. :-)

In the early 1990s, most computer companies advertised their computers' speed chiefly by referring to their CPUs' clock rates. This led to various marketing games, such as Apple Computer's decision to create and market the Power Macintosh 8100/110 with a clock rate of 110 MHz so that Apple could advertise that its computer had the fastest clock speed available—the fastest Intel processor available at the time ran at 100 MHz. This superiority in clock speed, however, was meaningless since the PowerPC and Pentium CPU architectures were completely different. With a clock speed within the same order of magnitude as the Pentium (and a similarly comparable scale of parallelism within the processors), the Power Mac was faster at some tasks but slower at others.

Can't quite recall what this is part of, but I'm pretty sure this is in Sibenik.

I thought this was pretty cool. While we were taking pictures of the bank (built in 1922), a large group of high school-aged skateboarders came up to us, and we chatted for a little while. They asked us where we were from, and why the heck we were in Monroe ("It's so boring!"). Apparently they skateboard in Ann Arbor often.
