The Clock Tower is the world's largest four-faced, chiming clock. The structure is situated at the north-eastern end of the Houses of Parliament building in Westminster, London. It is often referred to as Big Ben — which is actually the main bell housed within the Clock Tower.[1][2][3] The Clock Tower has also been referred to as The Tower of Big Ben and, incorrectly, St Stephen's Tower, which is actually the spired tower towards the middle of the Palace and is also the main point of entry for attendees of debates and committees.

Spent last weekend in Strandhill with the brother-in-law and sister-in-law.Colm is big into woodwork and started wood turning in the last few years.He made this clock for his daughter.He shapes small pieces of wood(I think Walnut) into a disc shape and glues them together,then builds up the layers.He lost count of the number of pieces he used but reckons it is over a thousand.There are three sections,the base,main body and the head.

The Victoria Jubilee Clock at the main entrance to Albert Park, Middlesbrough, on 26 October 1969. Similar jubilee clocks can be found in other towns. Originally this one was painted in pastel colours as seen here, but it has since been painted black.

Metamec wall clock, late 1960s as far as I remember. Made in England, but on the face it says 'Foreign Movement'. The movement is pre-quartz, takes a D-cell battery, and is marked 'Made in Germany', although it does not indicate if that's DDR or BRD. I've seen a similar clock (different coloured face) with a mechanism by Kienzle of Germany.

This was intended to be a proto-type new product for my shop (see profile for link) but its turning out to be a little too time-comsuming - maybe thats the half way through blues talking.

 

It is starting to look like its all coming together so I'll keep going. It's (hopefully) going to be a clock cushion, I'm going to set the hands to the time of birth of someone's baby, and embroider the date and the baby's name on the clock face (or maybe in the side panel of the cushion - not sure yet)

 

Anyway - I'm loving working with linen - will need to think of more projects!!
