Church clock at St Mary's parish church, Oakley, Bedfordshire. The clock is unusual in having only one hand - the hour hand. It is one of oldest working clocks in England - dating from 1620 - yet still tells the time accurately.

Jerez de la Fronteira - August 2007

Have had one of those days. Couldn't wait to get home, close the door to the world, spend some time with my girls, get them to bed and open the wine.

This clock sits in the middle of Weymouth. It's big. It's red and blue. A little bit like Superman. But without the special powers. I like this shot. Mainly because I'm not in it.

Me and Lydia took the kids into town today, and of course the camera came with me. I purposely travelled light so it was just me, the Nikon and my fiddy.

Up until now I've tried not to post those random shots we all take, but I like seeing these kind of shots from other people, and lately I've been so reliant on a full setup of camera, tripod, flash etc to get a good shot - I justed wanted to get out there and be a shutterbug.

So while none of these shots I've posted are particularly earth-shaking or original, I had a great time taking them. It was fun. And it was a really liberating experience given that I'm totally f**ked off with taking self-portraits lately.

Because I like this one . . .

clock my parents purchased in Germany in the 1960's. It ran for many years, then stopped. I had it repaired, but alas, it did not weather the move from Virginia to Oklahoma very well, and it runs no more.

i was driving through Philly and shot this out of my car window at a red light (William Penn standing on top)

I always enjoy this clock. Super colorful (Ektachrome E100VS, 35mm) The green really starts to show in this one, the film expired 01/2014 so that might be the reason despite it being frozen. Either way the green color shift is beautiful, and I've never been a fan of green shifts (ei: Provia 100F nuclear greens)

The clock tower was commissioned by the Amble War Memorial Committee. The designer was William Burton and the builders were a local firm called R Carse & Sons. The memorial was unveiled on 9 May 1925 by Major Vernon Merivale MC and initially dedicated to those who fell in World War I but later incorporated World War II as well.

The highly architectural shape of this portico clock and its design elements were often found in the furnishings typical of the style that developed under Napoleon's reign, inspired by Percier and Fontaine's architectural drawings. Two piers support an entablature upon which is seated a figure of Cupid holding two chained lions: this motif is a reprise of the Romanesque house front, attesting to the decorator's antique tastes. The piers are decorated with a pair of gaines, each bearing a head characteristic of the prevailing craze for all things Egyptian. The Shiny metal ornaments emerging from a mat bronze ground are also from the period's decorative vocabulary: masks, animals driving chariots pulled by other animals and allegorical winged figures. The enamel clock face bears the name of the clockmaker, Jacquet, who was based in Gisors, Normandy.

I have tried to take pictures of this through the Club Acela doors (up the stairs) before. But now I see that the ticket office is the better vantage point. Since this clock is apparently an inherent part of the wall, I'm guessing it's been here a long time. It runs and shows the correct time.
