Troisième et dernier des palais de la cour intérieure, ce pavillon a été construit en 1420 et reconstruit en 1605 en raison de deux incendies, respectivement en 1514 et 1596. Orienté plein sud, il mesure 9 arches de long et 3 de large, avec une hauteur de 22 m, un toit double et des bâtiments secondaires, tout comme le Palais de la Pureté Céleste, mais plus petits. Son ouverture est sur le côté est et non sur la façade, habitude des empereurs mandchous.

Sous les Ming, il était la résidence de l'impératrice, mais a été divisé en deux sous les Qinq, avec la chambre nuptiale, sur sa droite , l'auttre partie étant un temple dédié aux dieux du foyer, la grande salle à l'Ouest étant utilisée pour les sacrifices, deux fois par jour, l'un le matin et l'autre le soir. La chambre nuptiale est toute rouge, du sol au plafond, et décorée d'un grand nombre de caractères "double xi" : "double bonheur". Le très grand lit occupe un quart de la superficie au sol de la pièce. Après le mariage, l'empereur et la nouvelle impératrice passaient trois jours dans cette chambre, pour leur nuit de noce et se séparaient ensuite pour vivre chacun de son côté. Ce palais était complété par deux annexes, l'une à droite nommée Dongnuan et l'autre à gauche Xinuan (cf. merveillesdumonde.com).
