Some of the trails along Minnesota's Northshore were really developed. Temperance River State Park was one of those examples such as this stone-lined stairs. Enjoy, we certainly did!

this is a play off from one of my shots from last week .. i'm not usually that big a fan of this kind of work, but i must confess that photoshop is my favorite procrastination tool (sometimes i get carried away), and this is how i like to play around after a few BR's while listening to some crunchy grooves. i'll have a real photograph up tomorrow. until then, cheers!

Took a drive down I-81 South to Locust Lake State Park and Tuscarora State Park.

Since we didn't get a whole lot from those stops, we went back up our way and stopped at Frances Slocum State Park also.

I love this part of the lake. While shooting there the only thing I hear is complete silence....

Lens: Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 STM

© 2011 Thousand Word Images by Dustin Abbott

This shot was taken for a themed contest Autumn long exposure. I stacked a Hoya ND8 filter on top of a Hoya Circular Polarizer to allow for deep color and a blue sky. I needed a big depth of field to get all the foliage detail. To get all of this I needed a .4 second exposure to properly expose. The resulting shot has great color and allows the detail to be retained in the foreground.

Technical info: Canon 60D, Canon EF-S 15-85mm, Hoya ND8 filter, Hoya Circular Polarizer, single exposure shot, processed in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CS5 (for the frame and signature).

Hard wind, rain and time has eroded everything around these surviving monolithic structures. These were quite tall given their apparent size in the photo.

Nearing the out-and-back trail at Kasha-Katuwe (Tent Rocks) National Monument, one will find these pillars and a good view of the slot canyons below that must be traversed to get to this point.

This lens' vignetting is fairly prominent while shooting with the aperture wide-open, hence the shading in the corners.

i went over by the Adler Planetaium again early in the morning the other day and was able to get this shot of the skyline including the sundial of the planetarium into the frame...the reflections off the granite surface just adds a different dimension to this well photographed scene...pls. caught this awesome sunset scene along the Fox River in McHenry Shores...got off work just in time as the sun was setting down the horizon...lucky for me, this spot is only a few minutes drive from my workplace and got there in time for some really cool sunset frames earlier this afternoon...closed down my aperture to f/22.0 for this one to get that sunstar effect and slowed my exposure to 1/80 seconds so i could get some more details on the ground but still be able to do a handheld shot at the same time...and by positioning the sun in between the bifurcations of this big tree, i was able to exagerrate the sunstar effect even more...hope everyone has a great weekend ahead...pls. I had dinner with my daughter Friday night and upon leaving the restaurant, I noticed some real killer cloud action taking place. So instead of heading home I drove up to the Cuyahoga Valley and took a short stroll to one of my new favorite spots to catch a sunset. The Beaver Marsh, located along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail north of Ira Trailhead, is a favorite location for watching wetland birds and other wildlife. Before beaver flooded this area two decades ago, it had been a junkyard which The Portage Group of the Sierra Club cleaned up in 1984. Legend has it there are still a few rusty junkers sitting at the bottom of the marsh. I had the pleasure of watching a beaver float leisurely around for a few minutes in the open waters of the marsh before watching Mother Nature put on a spectacular light show as the sun dropped below the horizon.

After spending a good part of the day in sweat, pain and fear, it was time for a little nap. The MoHo was securely parked for the night and Stephen and I swore, we are NOT getting up for sunrise tomorrow, no matter how great the sky was looking.

Let's just say this, we both chickened out, got up to shoot sunrise and were rewarded with some sweet colors and an almost mirror-like Mono Lake, reflecting the otherworldly tufa towers; what after all, should be the calmest appearance of Mono we've seen during the week.

If you look closely, you might see one or the other of the gazillion flies sitting on the South Tufa, enjoying the disgust of the people walking along the shoreline.

Shot taken from the top of the battlements of Lewes Castle overlooking the County Town, Ouse Valley and South Downs. It was also the hottest day of the year (~30deg C) so far.

A non-HDR composition.

Yes, this is current as of 9/14/2018!

Both were taken in the Lansing, MI area. A few trees are starting to pop!

You're best off looking for young, or sickly trees that are somewhat stressed. You'll likely find more color in urban environments right now than out in the wilderness.

This tree is in the parking lot of my friend's photo studio!

This is my first picture of 2016. 2015 has been a crazy year, a rollercoaster full of crazy working hours and achievements, but very little photography (my catalog counts 750 picture in the whole year). I hope things will change in 2016, and I will finally have more time for myself and the people and things I love.

Portland Head Light is one of the most photograph lighthouses in the world; for obvious reasons. The rugged coastline of Casco Bay and the contrasting architecture of the lighthouse and buildings is strikingly beautiful.

Stories of tourist walking into the Keeper's quarter are endless. In the 1960's, the lightkeeper forgot to lock the door of the house, and tourist walked into the house while his wife bathed.

Another famous visitor was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. In his young days, he wrote "The Lighthouse":

"Steadfast, serene, immovable, the same,

Year after year, through all the silent night

Burns on forevermore that quenchless flame,

Shines on that inextinguishable light!"

Lovely morning on San Francisco Bay, just after a luxury liner glided under the span. Taken from a boat.

A long-exposure of the three Forth bridges during the golden hour on a lovely late winter's afternoon.

The red, iron bridge to the right of the frame is the old rail crossing. Running left to right through the middle of the frame is the old (1964) suspension bridge for vehicular traffic. Beyond this can be seen the three towers and partially completed road bed of the "Forth Replacement Crossing" which is due to open next year (2017).

My first view of the Wonderful Barn and Barn Hall on a recent visit. It took me a lot of effort to find this place. It's a travesty that a magnificent historical monument like this is not even signposted, let alone developed for tourism!

This peculiar tower served as both a folly, and a grain store. It was built to add a focal point at the end of one of the vistas in Castletown Estate.
