A simple pre sunrise shot at Whale Beach on Sydney's northern beaches.
Whale Beach is just past Avalon and protected by towering headlands at both ends of the beach.

"Bliss" is the default Windows XP background wallpaper photographed in 1996 by Charles O'Rear along Hwy 12 in Sonoma County, California. You can read a little more about Bliss in Wikipedia, however, the 2006 re-shoot that's on Wiki was taken from the wrong location, approximately 350' farther Northeast, it is of the correct hill, but it is shot in the wrong direction.
My first attempt to recapture bliss in March was stymied by boring gray skies which left me shooting other things with a better sky. Where to park the car along the very busy Hwy 12 will always be a problem, fortunately this time around the house that sits closest to the photo location was up for sale and empty so I took the opportunity to park there and walk the 175 yds to the correct spot. I didn't have the printed image of bliss that I brought with me in March so I aligned the hills by memory. Now I see that I missed the exact location by a few feet. When I left Sacramento, the skies looked very promising, by the time I got to Sonoma, most of the nice clouds had blown to the east so I'll probably give it a shot another time which will give me a chance to fine-tune my location.
If anyone is wondering, the tree tops visible near the right edge of the original bliss image are no longer there, it's my belief the trees were cut down prior to 2004 to make room for a house. You can see the changes using the historical imagery in Google Earth.

The Shot
These falls are literally secret, as their are no signs or anything else, that let you know these falls actually exist. I only knew if their existence through another photographer. What he did not say, was that it's nearly impossible to access them in a safe way.
What a hike that was. It wasn't particularly long but steep and very hard to find. I got the GPS coordinates off the internet and punched them in. No signs or anything on the side of the road. It was somewhere in the bush but I was destined to find these waterfalls. I went down what appeared to be a path. The path ended about 10m after it started. After that I had to literally rock climb down into the gorge and jump from rock to rock holding on to branches where possible. When I finally found it I set up my equipment and tried a few different compositions to see which one works best. So excited about this awesome waterfall I could not find the way back up!!! Everytime I tried I ended up at a rockface I could not climb up. When I finally gave up and wanted to follow the river back (I knew it would cross the major park road eventually), I found the "trail" I was coming down from. I took my time climbing back up again - with 10kg+ of gear in my #fstop backpack not so easy. Now I got a shot not many people have and I think it turned out fine

got to shoot a little bit this morning by the Adler Planetarium but could only stay out about 10minutes as the temperature was only about 18 degrees with a slight wind blowing from the lake...i was hoping for more dramatic clouds but i actually loved the cool blue tones this morning which went pretty well with the frigid temps...hope you guys caught this morning's sunrise coz there was a brief moment there when the colors really were stunning...i was still on the Ohio Street ramp when this was happening but i still enjoyed the view from my car...enjoy your Sunday friends...pls.View On Black
this is still at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland from around Pier 5 (Landing 5)...this part of the Inner Harbor is just about 2 blocks to the city's Little Italy neighborhood...have a good one friends, will catch up with you guys later...pls. View On Black
Pinned to a post above Wimbleball reservoir on Exmoor.
Any ideas what beast this skull belongs to? Some good canine teeth there.
(On reflection I think it might be a dog's skull?! It would kind of explain why it's pinned to a post in a sheep-farming area; to act as a warning to owners to keep their dogs on leads?!)
caught some really nice cloud formations over at the Burnham Harbor in one of my walks around the city....will catch up on your streams much later as i won't be home 'til late tonight....CHEERS!!!!!... pls. View On Black

somehow, i ended up by Kinzie Street Bridge again this morning as i was trying to find a spot to shoot the early morning fog in the city...so when i was walking up towards the middle of the bridge, i was pretty excited because the river was so still and mirror-like, just perfect for a reflection shot...but then, as i was taking my camera out of my bag, here comes a rowing team gliding thru the waters and messed up my mirror LOL...had to wait a little bit for the waters to settle down again but it never did become totally still after that though...i guess this will do for now, and i still like this one a lot...pls. a light morning mist hovers over the beautiful town of Positano as we stopped around a bend in one of the vista points along our trip thru the Amalfi Coast...i was able to purchase some watercolor prints of scenic locales around Positano, Praino and Amalfi and still need to have them framed...i actually plan on framing some of my shots from that trip too and display it together with the watercolor prints i bought...hope everyone had a great day today...pls. Going through the archives, I came across this from the trip to the Dupont Forest waterfall tour we did in October. The lens flare combined with the circular polarizer just works for me on this shot. This is the top section of Triple Falls.

Ocean Pacific. Ixtapa, Guerrero, Mexico.
I appreciated the light in this scene of a glacial lake in Iceland. The sky was naturally dark with the foreground lit by bright light. I did not use a GND filter, but I did use a circular polarizer to cut the glare on the water.
Our WonderPana filter system lets you mount filters on ultra wide angle lenses like the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L lens, and in this video, Alex shows you how to use a WonderPana ND1000 10-stop filter to shoot long exposure photography, as well as how to adapt Canon EF lenses to medium format FUJIFILM GFX cameras.

This is definitely something new for me ... and I like it! ;)
I was so happy to be able to capture this expanse of cloud formation. The dark b/w processing really was the only way to do justice to it somehow.
loved how this reflection shot captured at Burnham Harbor in Chicago turned out especially with those beautiful wispy clouds and beautiful blue skies...converted it to a sepia monochrome and came out with this image...i also have an old post of this same image in color...have a great weekend everyone...pls. Took a drive down I-81 South to Locust Lake State Park and Tuscarora State Park.
Since we didn't get a whole lot from those stops, we went back up our way and stopped at Frances Slocum State Park also.

A view across Pike Bridge Harbour on the Royal Canal on a beautiful autumn day.
This small harbour was built to service Carton Estate, the Duke of Leinster's country residence. The Duke was a major shareholder in the Royal Canal Company, and it was at his insistence that the Canal was re-routed from it's more logical route through Maynooth. The detour necessitated the building of two of the most expensive sections of the canal, the 8-mile long cutting known as 'The Deep Sinking', and the massive viaduct over the river Ryewater in Leixlip.

The Seattle to Bainbridge Island to Bremerton ferry. Using the Singh-Ray Gold-n-Blue c-pol filter. Its a very interesting filter and takes some getting use to. Shot taken from the Columbia Tower Observatory, 73 floors up!
just another puddle reflection shot captured at the Crown Fountains in Millenium Park in Chicago...i was actually on my way over to the Bean for the lights show last February and decided to stop by the fountains for some twilight shots...i really like shooting long exposure images at very odd angles as this usually gives the viewer a unique and different look at something that people see and walk by everyday...hope you all have a great night...pls.
