The famous Chain of Rocks Bridge and its 22° bend between Missouri and Illinois.
Four minute, twenty second exposure right after sunset.
Korita Mostnice, near Stara Fužina / Lake Bohinj, Slovenia. This is a view from a narrow bridge across a side canyon - I had to move my tripod right off the bridge when the odd person wanted to get past.
A panorama (5 x 5-bracket sets) merged with Lightroom, processed with Aurora HDR, Luminar, and Photoshop (with Lumenzia). Not only is it a panorama, but the lower bracket is at a closer focus distance, making it a focus stack as well.
Polariser and 3-stop ND filter used.

The fog rolled up out of the river valley. The sun had yet to peak out of the trees. The air was crisp in my nose. It was a beautiful morning God had created.
this was captured last fall season at the Nippersink Forest Preserve here in Round Lake, Illinois...this place is only 5 minutes away from my house and me and my wife do our walking exercises here...it's not a huge forest preserve but i think is a very photogenic one...this was one of those beautiful autumn twilights with awesome streaky clouds reflecting nicely on really still waters, plus the blue hour light even made it more fantastic to see...pls. A foggy, drizzly, autumn morning in the mountains of North Carolina. What more could a photographer ask for?
i really wanted to get a shot of The Bean with nobody, not a single soul around it so one morning, i took the early train out from the 'burbs and headed out really early on a really cold morning...it was worth it 'coz when i got there it was just me, The Bean and the security person...i wanted to capture this frame where it would have a postcard feel to it and included the AT&T PLAZA logo in the comp...i also had to level and balance the lines a bit just to get some sense of symmetry to this image...hope this works guys...pls.View On Black
this morning, i decided to head out into the city a bit earlier as i was picking up my wife from her workplace...i was able to park around Oak Street Beach and planned on doing some walking around the lakefront just to see how my ankle would hold up...it was a beautiful morning, very mild with clear blue skies and the sun was already up...of course i had my camera with me and i was doing a little bit of shooting along the way...plenty of runners, bikers, in line skaters and morning lake swimmers along the lakefront this morning too...30 minutes into my walk, i ended up in Milton Lee Olive III Park in the River East section of the city in the Streeterville Neighborhood...i consider this park a hidden gem, as not all locals know of this area...it's a great place to relax and view the skyline any time of the day...there's even a lookout terrace that juts out and overhangs over Lake Michigan...and this is where i took this shot, where i used the granite benches on the terrace as the reflective surface for this frame...i simply placed my camera flat on the surface of the bench plus i was also finally able to use my new 77mm circular polarizer for my UWA lens...i think i really love how this different perspective turned out...pls. Little Sable Point Light on a perfect August afternoon. The distinctive red brick light tower is located in Silver Lake State Park in Oceana County about half way up the Lake Michigan shore.
this sunset was shot from last summer by Lily Lake in Lakemoor, Illinois...i pass this lake everyday going to and coming home from work and most of the times i stop by briefly to watch the sunset and if the conditions are great, i start shooting as many frames as i can.....most mornings, this lake is just really calm and glass-like which is perfect for reflection shots...pls. The rich greens of late summer by the river prepare for autumn's golden touch. The Muskrat River flows by this island park in the community of Pembroke, Ontario. I intend to return in about two week's time to capture the transition in the hardwoods to full autumn glory.

blue hour sets over downtown Orlando, Florida...this scene was captured during our vacation in Florida last fall season...i was inspired to seek this lake out after i saw pictures of this scene along the halls of Orlando Airport when we arrived...after a little bit of research and a little help from GARMIN, me and Delight found Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando just as the sun was starting to set...the lake looked awesome with the city beautifully reflecting on it's surface...we stuck around the area for about an hour and a half so i could capture sunset, blue hour and night shot images of this beautiful scene...overall, i was pretty satisfied with the shots i got that night and was very thankful that i saw those pictures in the airport in the first place which led me to this shots...pls. this is a cropped version of an image i took of the beautiful great blue herons that call Great Falls their home...i sure wished i had brought my 70-200mm lens with me for this trip for a much closer shot of these magnificent birds...anyway, i slowed down the shutter just enough to get those brush strokes effect on the rushing water and yet not to slow to blur these ever constant moving birds...this was just the very few of the better shots i got out of many that i erased...hope you like this...pls. I took a similar shot over a year ago and I had been planning on retaking it for many months now. Every day I pass this scene in the afternoon and I have been waiting for the conditions to be just right. Finally it fell together.

this is the view of Chicago's skyline, looking northward, as seen from the shores of Ohio Street Beach in the Streeterville neighborhood...this was just after sunrise and used a circular polarizer with this frame...just cropped the original frame for a nice panoramic look...enjoy your weekend friends...a lot better to View On Black...
just had to get myself out by the Adler Planetarium last Saturday night just to get a shot of the skyline with the Stanley Cup tribute on the sides of the buildings...drove from Round Lake to the city only to get to the Adler and find out that they weren't letting people park until 11pm...had to beg one of the police officers to let me get a couple of quick shots since i drove over 50 miles just to take shots...he gave me 10minutes to shoot away...big thanks to you kind sir!!!!
This was from yesterday early morning along Upper Wacker Drive...the early morning light was really nice and those waves of early morning clouds looked fantastic over the city...the whole scene was just right to turn into this mild HDR image...have a good one friends...pls.View On Black
It's pretty hard to beat the Eastern Sierra trip as far as light goes. It was SWEET all week long. So I thought the title was more than fitting. On Sunday, after some epicness at Convict Lake and a mundane shooting at the basaltic rock formations at Devil's Postpile National Monument, a group of 6, including Brian, Mike and Greg was off to something bigger, something that should reward the eager hikers and photographers with the refreshing view on the Sierra. Literally.
A mere 2.5 mile hike into the burnt woods of the Inyo National Forest, we were greeted with a fabulous overview from the vista point onto the falls and it seems like Mike, arriving a little later than Brian and I, got to experience why the falls are named the way they are. But who are we shooting it from the vista point only, like tourists... yeah right. Down the steep stairs we go --- no problem. At this point, I wasn't thinking about climbing out of the mess I got myself into.
To make things worse, my tripod was still tucked in the back of the MoHo. Eff dat! So what's a photographer to do when he doesn't have one with him? Right, he builds his own. I was all over the place, collecting stones, ruining compositions for others and collecting stones to build my very own, patented, quite heavy but super sturdy Manfrotto-branded ROCK tripod. Brian was already giving me weird looks and so did the others but I think I set a new standard for outdoor shooting. No need to carry a heavy tripod---just build your own!
That said, if you find two piles of rocks stacked at Rainbow Falls, they are my tripods. Feel free to use them and with the right settings you might get something similar to the image above. Only thing I ask for is to give me credit in the write-up for your shot.
Alright, it was time to get out and all of a sudden, the hike to Rainbow Falls didn't seem like the best idea. It's only ONE mile to the shuttle pick-up station and but for some reason, the hike out is BY FAR more strenuous than the hike in. Especially those stairs... man, after the first set I was feeling the hike up to Cathedral Lakes already and I had more than 60 steps to go... I am sure Brian doesn't like the comparison with a bighorn sheep, so I skip the details on that one but let me tell you, he went up the stairs like a madman. Mike and I were slowly making progress but we got there... even though each step got higher and HIGHER!
We caught the shuttle bus out and after getting back to Lee Vining we ENJOYED our pulled BBQ sandwiches, burgers and WATER, which we also left in the car. Truly an experience and thanks for the great time!
I took this a few days ago, when I went to the Chicago Botanic Garden to practice shooting with a new circular polarizer I got for my birthday!
one of the things i love about photography is the challenge of coming up with a very different and creative composition or perspective on whatever scene or subject i'm trying to capture...when i come into a certain area that i want to shoot, i always scan the surrounding first and try to see if i can find something different and special and then try to envision the comp in my head before going for the shot...in this instance, while walking thru the Riverwalk in the city, i passed by this court space behind the Fidelity Building along Michigan Avenue...i noticed right away how light was being reflected on the sides of the buildings and then there's this partial view of John Hancock Building as well...i then proceeded to comp a frame using the granite benches as source of reflection, placed my camera on the bench with the camera on Live View and then fired my shots...overall, i think i really was pleased with how this came out with cool reflections, nice lines, and the light reflections made some interesting patterns as well...have a great week friends...pls. this is a 3 exposure HDR image of the Buckingham Fountain in Chicago...it is one of the most beautiful and grandest fountains in the world and is visited by millions of tourist every year...it is still shut down for the season but pretty soon this grand fountain will once again come to life and impress it's visitors...pls. - www.kevin-palmer.com - It was a beautiful afternoon for a hike in Little Horn Canyon. This rarely visited canyon had better fall colors than anywhere else I've been in the Bighorn Mountains. These aspen trees were some of the tallest I've seen.
the Chicago skyline glows magnificently while a dark brooding shadow hangs over the expanse of Lake Michigan on a cold, cloudy night in the windy city...
Quick upload after the hike. Circular polarizer filter used on all shots, then imported to Lightroom 3. Processed through Nik Color Efex 3 Complete using the Tonal Contrast filter at default settings.

Rodeo Beach Marin County California
As the sky above Marin county cleared, I decided to try another simple composition. The wind was fast and the clouds had nice movement so I went for as long of an exposure as I could get. Not much color in the original, the sun was a bit too high and harsh so again, I felt black and white would work best.
Canon 5D Mark II / 24-105mm / 10 stop solid ND grad / 2 stop hard edge ND grad & 2 stop reverse ND grad / circular polarizer (for the extra stops)
this is another daytime long exposure of the city's skyline using a circular polarizer and a 10 stop ND filter stacked together...the 10 second exposure really brought out some nice cloud movement and a really smooth Lake Michigan surface...will be catching up with your streams later as i've been a little busy with work lately...pls. When I first wanted to shoot plum island I didn't know where to start for the photo I was envisioning. Plum island was enough out of the way scouting it wasn't really feasible. So I searched to the ends of the internet for photos from plum island to try and figure out where to go and did plenty of google earth. I wasn't making much progress until I ran across the best photos from Plum Island I had seen by John Loomis loomstone He has a similar style so I figured I would shoot him a line and see what he has to say about shooting plum island. He replied and was more than helpful and facilitated my visit to the island to get the type of photograph I was after. Feel free to pay him a visit and check out his work.

Took the drive today to Danbury, Connecticut to shoot some promotional material for Christy Thompson. She is a singer/songwriter from New York and is making moves with her Career.
Right after the shoot, she was going to a meeting to finish up getting her music produced, etc. She's got a few songs and videos up on her myspace, be sure to check those out.
She was an absolute blast to shoot. Very easy to work with and I had a great time.
We got so many good shots from this shoot, I'm having a hard time figuring out what ones to share with you guys here.
I'll be posting up a few more, that's for sure! Stay tuned!

got lucky to get this rich royal blues during the magical blue hour at the City Dock in Annapolis, Maryland...those thick dark clouds that lingered over the harbor provided some drama during the long exposure here casting some ominous looking skies and also providing some shadows and texture and movement on the water surface...and if you look closer, you can see some light trails action going on as well...well, it's our last day today here in Maryland and i can't do any shooting coz it's raining out...good thing i got some shots done at the Great Falls and the National Mall yesterday...tomorrow, we head back to Chicago early in the morning and hopefully get to Chicago just in time for some sunset shots...pls.
