I’ve seen a few photographs of this gnarled tree that grows precariously on this cliff overlooking the Tinkers Creek Gorge, but I never knew exactly where it was until recently. I happened upon it a few weeks ago after an afternoon spent shooting waterfalls in the Bedford Reservation in....you guessed it, Bedford, Ohio. The Tinkers Creek Gorge is an awe inspiring place and I hope to explore it more extensively in the future. Another shot of Trevose Head Lighthouse on the Northern Cornish coast. Few minutes after the previous image, before the sunrise... and before the storm! :-)
I'll publish a third one taken after the storm... stay tuned!

This shot has a perspective closer to aerial photography than typical perspective due to being shot for a balcony up on a resort tower. I'm an early riser (helpful as a photographer), and some of the most unique light of the day is very early where the sun's low angle creates long shadows. The long shadows help to really draw the eye to the tiny, lone figure walking the beach in the early dawn light. I used the Fujinon XF 16-55mm F2.8 for this shot along with an Irix Edge CP-L to help intensify the colors and contrast to give this image some extra pop. The negative space, light and shadow play, and color contrasts elevate this simple image into something special (for me). My review coverage of the lens can be seen here:

Fishing for salmon in the Pacific Ocean about 30 miles northwest of San Francisco, California. That's Bolinas and the Point Reyes National Seashore in the distance. Beautiful day fishing, catching only photos. The official name on charts is "1DR". The sea lion was undisturbed.

Photographer Adam Rainoff recently took a trip along China's Silk Road with our Tamron 15-30mm Wonderpana filter system, which also works on his Pentax-D FA 15-30mm F2.8 lens. Here he is in Hong Kong shooting with his Pentax K-1 and Pentax 15-30mm lens with our Tamron 15-30mm Wonderpana filter system and 145mm circular polarizing filter.

this is one from the archives, from our Italy vacation last year...really like how the UWA lens distorted this whole scene and provided some unique angles to this historic landmark which is the Trevi Fountain...this has got to be the most difficult spots to photograph in Rome as the place is packed with tourists any time of the day...and that is why i resorted to using my UWA to get these angles and add a bit of interest to an otherwise standard shot of the fountain...and for some added drama, processed this to an HDR image to add punch to the colors and details...hope it worked to some degree...pls. Aye it was too cauld and windy to be mucking about with this long exposure nonsense today!
(this was also an excuse to test a new cpl I got this week, tho I prolly broke all the cardinal rules with stacking numerous ND filters ontop lol :D
This photo was taken near the Canada Customs station at Fraser, British Columbia. I walked off the South Klondike highway towards the WP&YR RR tracks, and happened upon these old rolls of snow fencing. They offered the perfect foreground interest in a scene that was alive with the beauty of the alpine world.
Photo taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro. Tripod and Polarizing filter employed, along with a 2-stop ND Grad.

I left Ohio a few weeks back in anticipation of a 3 day stay in Acadia National Park in Maine. I spent my first night in Vermont, then got up bright and early for the day long, leisurely trip up the coast of Maine. Before heading to the hotel, I stopped at Bass Harbor Headlight in Acadia National Park just in the nick of time to catch this glorious sunset. I was thrilled to say the least, because getting this shot was my main reason for my trip up there in the first place. Now that I had it in my pocket, the rest of the trip was gravy, so to speak. Little did I know at the time, the park was only a few hours away from shutting off all entrances to Acadia due to the government shut down. I made the best of the rest of my stay, but this stop on my way to the hotel, literally saved my trip to Maine. In all my days living 30 minutes from Redcar Beach, I've never noticed these rock formations at extreme low tide. Headed down for sunset just after lockdown in the UK and was immediately greeted by these formations not too far from the beacon.

Alternate title: "One of these trees is not like the other ones" ;)
The clouds have been really amazing for almost two weeks and I have not gotten out to take advantage of it. Every time it clears up I wonder, "Was that the last of the clouds?" In my part of Northern California we have clear blue skies 95% of the time for at least six months out of the year. I finally went out last week but decided to "enjoy nature" and didn't bring my tripod and now I'm not happy with the clarity of any of those shots (nor did I have multiple exposures to mix to my heart's content). Sigh.
So, I have turned to my archives and I found a little treasure trove of decent shots from a cloudy shooting session I did a month ago which I have hardly touched. Yay! :) But, as I look out at the clear blue sky right now, I vow (again) to take advantage of the next cloudy sky!
It's amazing how important clouds have become to me.

Stepping to the edge of this cliff and looking out at the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Mexico at Tulum is one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. The water is such a brilliant turquoise! A memory I will cherish.

Grate Signs was back in town today to rehang the second reproduction sign from the defunct Naples Bakery in Evergreen Park. The sign is hung on the west side of Barraco's Pizza Restaurant.
On December 4, 2017 the first reproduction sign was hit by a truck turning in the driveway. The top of the box truck clipped a digital scrolling advertising sign that hung under the neon sign. The entire sign was taken down in December of 2017.
The new sign will be mounted much higher than its predecessor.

shot this beautiful summer scene last July at the Veteran Acres Park in Crystal Lake, Illinois...it was a truly perfect summer day with white puffy clouds and really blue skies reflecting quite wonderfully on a perfectly still lake...hope you guys like this one...pls. View On Black
this shot of Crabapple Lake was captured last week with some really awesome cloud coverage...there was a slight breeze on and off that day so there was some bit of water movement but still was able to get a decent reflection in this frame....the original image i think looked pretty nice but i wanted to run it as a single file HDR to see how it looked and was really digging how the clouds turned out so i'm posting it here.....have an awesome weekend folks!!!!
....have to post and run for now, gotta head out to the airport to catch our flight for Florida.....pls. View On Black
this is a 15 second long exposure shot of the city skyline right around the start of sunset...i achieved this look by stacking 2 filters, a 10 stop ND filter for a longer exposure setting, and a circular polarizer filter to help control the sky exposure and get an even exposure between the sky and the foreground...really liked the result of it most especially the soft silhouettes of the skyscrapers....did another frame with a lighter exposure but this one seemed to be my favorite one because of the moodiness it conveys and the somewhat feeling of quiet and desolation...pls. Now edited. It doesn't look much different from the original jpeg; just a few fewer water and dust spots.

this light trails image was captured last year during our 2 week tour of Italy...my wife went into the store in the middle of this image to buy some gelato so i hurriedly set up for some long exposure shots while waiting...just put the camera on a dry spot on the ground close to the puddle and waited for some scooters and mini cars to pass along so i could get some vibrant light trails in the shot...my first try came out decent and turned out to be one of my fave shots from that city...pls .View On Black
one of my favorite spots around the South Loop is Burnham Harbor...one can get amazing sunset shots from this marina and some great reflection shots as the enclosed harbor makes the water quite still especially with zero winds...you can also get a teriffic view of the skyline from around here...have a good one guys...pls. This is a panorama created from 5 sets of 7 exposures due to the extreme dynamic range present in the scene. The waterfall at 22m is actually much taller than the panoramic projection would give one to believe. There was direct sun hitting the water and patches of moss, but the bottom of the waterfall was in deep shade, hence the way I went about capturing this with HDR technique.
For the lower segment I have rotated my circular polariser 90 degrees to capture rather than remove the rainbow - I also shot the same with the orthogonal setting, but didn't bother merging that in - so some of the glare from the lower rocks remains just because I was lazy.
I found myself adjusting my bracketing range as I moved up the waterfall - I believe this was because I was refocussing as I went up else I wouldn't have had everything in focus even at f/11 (and with a 10-stop ND filter, I simply couldn't see to focus without either removing the filter, or bumping up the live view exposure compensation more than 4 stops, and likely forgot to put it back before taking the next bracket), rather than to overcome any limitation with dynamic range 7 stops would probably have been plenty.
which I learned is not. The result was lightroom refusing to do an HDR pano blend, so I merged each set to DNG, then merged these into a panorama, and it all worked fine as lightroom still made the necessarily exposure adjustments.
Processed with AuroraHDR, Luminar, and finally Photoshop (with Lumenzia).
