My brother and his wife live next to a couple that has essentially turned their yard into a garden that is full of antiques. I was invited over to take a few photos last May, but had lost track of them. May warm summer thoughts come to you in the middle of your cold winter. Enjoy!
this is my version of the newest attraction in the city of Chicago, the Marilyn Monroe statue with a little bit of a twist...i have noticed that this statue is always packed with tourists so i went to the city this morning a little early to shoot this scene and hoped to avoid the crowds...i was pretty glad to see that there was still no big crowds milling about Big Marilyn...in this shot, i was so happy with my granite bench reflection shot of the skyline from the other day that i decided to apply the same technique in this instance as well...there were numerous granite benches/planters around the courtyard so i looked for a good spot, comped the frame and placed my camera on the surface and clicked hoping for the best...happy to say that i was really elated with the result that i almost did the dance of joy in public....hope you guys enjoy this one as much as i do...pls. With so much rainfall over the last few weeks, what is not uncommonly much more than a trickle of water in the summer has been a surging, gushing falls. On a beautiful Sunday evening, this regional park was packed with visitors. Hoping that all the those affected by this year's flooding are soon getting some relief.
this is also in Morton Arboretum from this morning's shoot...this is Crabapple Lake on the east side of the arboretum....quite a difficult shot to make as i had to go across waist high reeds to get to this side of the lake as there was no access path and had to crouch under one of the crabapple trees which was really close to the edge of the lake so there's no obstructions for the reflection...plus, i had to wait a little bit for the winds to die down and get a decent calm surface to get the best reflection shot...pls. gave this frame a big time tilt just to give it a bit of a different vibe plus the zoom out really just adds a little bit more punch to it...due to the huge people turnout for the light show, i had to be little bit more creative with my shots as most of the times, you can barely get off a decent shot of the projected lights on the ground...hope they do this again next year...pls. Looking past a bright yellow post on the wharf at Victoria By The Sea, on Prince Edward Island. The sea was mirror calm on this day and while it may not look so, those waters are shallow enough to wade in for almost as far as you can see. It's a great place for a swim on a hot day.

It was an impromptu run across the city to get to the "Witch's Hat Tower" to grab a shot of the sunset. As the year approaches equinox, the sun drops itself, more or less, behind the city. There was some light cloud cover on the horizon which rolled into providing the striped clouds. Enjoy!
Managed to get to Lums Pond State Park near home before sunset. Looked like this week was going to be peak color and I was not wrong!
it ws a cold and cloudy morning that day in the city but the skyline still looked amazing while low lying clouds blanketed most of Chicago's skyscrapers...pls. View On Black

i thank the Lord for family and friends, for all the blessings this year, for good health and for my soon to come D800 ;-)
shot this scene yesterday morning around the South Loop when fog was rolling around the city...but this was nothing compared to the fog we had in the suburbs where visibility was down to about maybe 5 feet only when i drove out of my house at 0530am...have a happy thnksgiving everyone!!!

Gotta love the colors at Brighton Beach. Another one from the archives of when I went to Australia in November of 2006. This is what you do when your wife is away on a trip: dig through the archives.
Taken the same day I took this photo.
The day this photo was captured is a day I never want to forget … it was a day I saw ‘home.’ The landscape and scenery out on the Oregon coast is like nothing I’ve ever experienced… the feel, the people, the views, the vibe… it all feels right, right like it never has before…
Photo captured in Siuslaw National Forest – Cape Perpetua Scenic Area – Yachats, Oregon. Shown to the left is Thor’s Well (with a person for perspective). I waited an hour for the tide to start to come in, in order to capture this photo. I desired to create endless waterfalls gushing from the lava rocks as the ocean shouted with her power.

These falls are above the popular Cascades in Pembroke, Virginia. I had the whole place to myself, which is good because there's only a narrow shelf of rock to stand on.
Sea moss lies in a tidal pool along the shoreline of the Bay of Fundy. Its appearance reminds me a view of the Earth from high above.
A beautiful sunset as seen from Skyline Vista in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. From this lookout you get a 270-degree view of the valley and the North Dakota Badlands. I-94 is seen snaking its way through the park and the town of Medora is off on the left. Here, just after sunset, the sky lit up with oranges and deep blues.

The Kelpies are 30-metre high horse head sculptures which stand on the Forth and Clyde Canal near Falkirk, Scotland.
They were designed by sculptor Andy Scott and were completed in October 2013 and opened to the public in April 2014.
I have wanted to visit and photograph this fabulous modern art installation for many months now but have never found the time despite it being just a 30 minute drive from home. The weather in the Central Belt of Scotland has been shocking this last week except for a brief sunny spell yesterday (Saturday 18th June) so I seized the moment.
shot this one about 2 hours ago by the Adler Planetarium as the lights of the city started turning on in spectacular fashion...just got my camera back after having it cleaned up and wanted to test and see if they did a good job, and i'm a really happy customer right now as i don't see any pesky dust spots at the moment...anyway, tonight was really a great night to be out shooting nightscapes of the city...the clouds were perfect and had movement and the colors were awesome as well...i even got some nice trails from the boats on the lake on some of my other frames...hope you all have a great weekend....pls. 308/366: Lost Among The Trees – Colorado Aspen (fall)
The fall version of Lost Among the Trees with the Aspens in Colorado. Every place I visit I do this style of photograph with the local trees in the area.
This one features the Aspen trees in Colorado in their fall bloom. I love how the leaves seems to twinkle and sparkle in the sunlight. There are so many unusual and breathtaking parts of this photo when shot from a low perspective. When shooting this photograph I put my camera on the ground and try to center it between several of the trees where the top is open and the sun in shining in. I then use a remote shutter release to snap the photo. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, I just want to go and get lost among these beautiful Aspen trees in Colorado.

Here's a panorama of a faint rainbow and distant storm structure lurking over northeast Coles County viewed from rural Charleston, IL.
I absolutely loved how dark the storm's tones were in contrast to the rest of the sky. Just before the rainbow popped up I was betting there was going to be one - just not sure how bright it was going to be.
The sun came out once the nuisance clouds scattered out of the way and when the light filtered in, the rainbow became noticeable and then the storm structure really intensified in contrast with dark slate blue tones and light grays. I really liked the lonely tree to make reference for just how much space I used to create this panorama - see how little it is compared to the rest of the sky? Sometimes when shooting wide any object in the foreground or horizon I like to use to show space and comparison of just how much it takes to get everything condensed into a large panorama like this one. As well, I used a circular polarizer, to enhance the sky and make the rainbow pop a little more. It lasted maybe 3-5 minutes if that and then it was a goner.
Definitely this is one of my favorite shots so far of the season, there's just something about a dark storm whether severe or not that contrasts so well with a rainbow and the light that's there. The photos that do most the talking are what I am always aiming and shooting for!

blue hour at the Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park, Chicago....dunno how this started to be called as "the blue hour" or what really causes it so i'm off to google as soon as i'm done tagging this image.....pls. View On Black
this is what i found in my google search....blue hour refers to that hour experienced between the hours of daylight and darkness when the skies go into deep blue...the term comes from a french expression, l'heure bleue....the time is considered special because of the high quality of light at this time of day....check out this site called bluehoursite.com, great site, very informative and gives you the best times to do blue hour photography wherever or whichever city you are in and some cool tips on how to do blue hour shots....
