Here's another image from my recent trip to Venford Brook. This image was taken a little further downstream and shows a little more of what the surrounding area looks like. Read about my discovery of Venford Brook and the images I took over on my blog: Venford Brook
By getting right up to water's edge and using a polarizing filter I was able capture the magnificent lake-bed colours and shapes, seen through the calm, clear Lake Superior water
Note: difficult to remove all of the glare from the rippled water surface, but I wanted to capture that gorgeous colour just below the rippled surface

Sometimes the best the shots are on the path rather than the destination itself. In the blog this week I tell you the story behind this image and why it was never my intention to even take it. Read the blog and see more images from that evening at: A Tale of the Unexpected
Another salmon trip out the Gate. No fish this time but lots of photos to share.

The fall colours are dominant over the forests and fields on Prince Edward Island now. This old shed and a weather worn barrel made the perfect subject amongst the golden tones of autumn.
shot this sunset scene by Lake McCullom earlier this afternoon....it was really beautiful with the lake somewhat calm and some sparse cloud formation just above the horizon....hope everyone had a great weekend....pls. View On Black

A line of poplars mark the outside edge of the boreal forest where it meets a fence and a farmer's field in southern Yukon.
I took this photo approximately half an hour into a snowshoe hike in the boreal forest north of Whitehorse. In the end, I spent the better part of two hours wandering around the forest, finding new trails, and taking pictures while the frost and icicles formed on my beard. It was a gloriously beautiful day!
This is a single exposure photograph taken hand held with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro. I also used a Nisi circular polarising filter mounted in a 75mm square holder. All post processing was performed in Adobe Lightroom Classic 12. Like most of my work, this photo was not cropped.
the lake was very still that morning and the early morning light had that wonderful effect when it hit the leaves of the shrubs and the trees...did a little bit of tonemap and a slight crop as well to take out some distractions around the edges of this frame....overall, i was pretty happy with this photo and love how serene it is...pls. Looking north - from the beach at Cramond, near Edinburgh, Scotland - towards Fife as the sun set over my left shoulder and lit up the cloud edges with a hint of red. Moments later the colour was all gone!
I took this image of Colmer's Hill in Dorset while out testing the @Mactremgear AT64C Carbon tripod. In my video review of the tripod, I take it to a number of locations to shoot some landscape images. So, if you are just interested in landscape photography or want to know if this tripod is any good, there is something in this video for you. Check it out at julianbaird.me

this was shot from a small coutyard around Piazza di Espagna in Rome...we were just walking around and exploring and followed a small colorful alleyway which led to this courtyard...there were a number of little shops in this area but then i looked up and saw this and had to take the shot...pls. I took this in pretty dim conditions and neglected to remove the circular polarizing filter which stole even more light. There was definitely some noise on the final image but DxO cleaned it up beautifully. The final image shows an interesting fungus that I found on the nature trails at Beadalbane on PEI. I know nothing about mushrooms but these big white ones looked beautiful.

This shot shows the other end of the spectrum for new Irix 150mm F2.8 Macro lens - the telephoto end. I also used one of the new Irix EDGE filters here - a circular polarizer. I love using CPLs in the woods to help intensify colors. I've cooled this image while also retaining the warmth of the beech leaves that are still hanging on in late February. I love the contrast of the warm leaves against the polar background. I'm so thankful for the beech leaves that hang around and give me something to shoot late into the winter. See more photos from the Irix 150mm here:

It's too bad it's been missing in action for a few weeks now... because a few weeks ago when the weather was really hot... they found some 'buckling' (caving in)
They had to stop operation so they can repair this magnificent wheel!
