My wife and I have been bottling our own wine since 2018. I created this little wine cellar on the landing of our basement stairway. This is a very small area (Height 75” x Width 78” x Depth 34”) and currently has a capacity for 226 bottles.

The wine racks on the side walls, the ones on either side of the print and on the top of the wine rack, are off the shelf commercial racks. I selected some decorative molding to use as backer boards that are screwed into the wall studs, the racks were then attached to the moldings with anchors to take the weight (750 ml bottle of wine weights 2.65 lbs. or 71 lbs. per rack @27 bottles each).

I designed and fabricated the wine rack in the center (L45” x H28” x D8”), 70 bottle capacity. I had it powder coated a custom color and added the under mount lighting.

The print in the center is a shot I took while in Paris of Francois Rude’s, Le Depart De 1792, from the Arc de Triomphe. I had it printed on aluminum plate and located in this small space to watch over the maturing wine.

The reds take about 6-8 months to mature, the whites, 12-14 weeks. Because there is only a small amount of sulfates in the wine, the reds have a shelf life of roughly 5 years and the whites about 2.5 years.

In the summer, with the AC running in the house, cold air drops into this space nicely and in the winter, very nicely. So the wine stays at about 62 degrees or less all the time, it’s not perfect, but I am good with that.

In the process of bottling our wine, I needed wine labels to put on each bottle of wine. I began researching were to get some appropriate labels, when it struck me that the obvious solutions was to use my own photography and have wine labels printed from them.

I found an excellent source that does a great job of printing our wine labels. We save and reuse our wine bottles, so we have our labels printed on vinyl stickers.

The print quality is great for a label, and they are simple to apply to the bottle. After we have consumed a bottle, the label peels off in one piece without leaving any residue for the next time we bottle a batch.

One of a trio purchased new by Cumbria County Council, she was allocated to Stagecoach North West (numbered 18279) to what was then Service X35 (Barrow-Kendal). Withdrawn in 2013, they passed to Ensignbus, and whilst the other two were sold on, she was retained in their own fleet until a sale to Axe Valley Travel of Seaton in 2018.

She retains Ensignbus's red and silver livery, as illustrated in this October 2025 shot taken at the Heilbronn Way roundabout in Port Talbot when she was operating Service 66 to Baglan Moors.

With the S26 schedule in full-swing, for many airlines it has given the opportunity to begin the process of updating their upcoming winter schedules as well as next year's summer schedule.

Since the W17 schedule back in late-October 2017, Japan Airlines introduced a second daily flight between London Heathrow and Tokyo-Haneda, complimenting an already existing daily flight they have operated for decades, as well as being joint-venture partners with British Airways which gives at least 4 daily flights between London Heathrow and Tokyo.

JL43/44 continues to be Japan Airlines flagship daily flight, having recently transitioned to Airbus A350-1000s having replaced the venerable Boeing 777-300ERs of which there are now just 8 left in traffic. The second daily flight (JL41/42) which was introduced from the W17 schedule has consistently been Boeing 787-8/9 operated (except of course COVID-19).

This is expected to change as in recent schedule updates towards the end of the S26 schedule and for the entirety of the W26 schedule due to commence from 25th October 2026 will see Japan Airlines utilising Airbus A350-1000s on both their daily flights between London Heathrow and Tokyo-Haneda.

JL41/42 which currently utilises Boeing 787-8s (apart from the odd occasion has seen Boeing 787-9s and even an Airbus A350-1000) will convert over to Airbus A350-1000 operation from 1st October 2026 and will operate throughout the upcoming W26 schedule to commence from 25th October 2026 up until 27th March 2027. Whether Japan Airlines will utilise Airbus A350-1000s for next year's S27 schedule remains to be seen...

Currently, Japan Airlines operates 28 Airbus A350s, which includes 17 Airbus A350-900s and 11 Airbus A350-1000s. Japan Airlines have 21 Airbus A350-900s and 2 Airbus A350-1000s on-order.

Swedish icebreaker/research vessel Oden in Öresund this morning.

"Oden is a large Swedish icebreaker, built in 1988 for the Swedish Maritime Administration. It is named after the Norse god Odin. First built to clear a passage through the ice of the Gulf of Bothnia for cargo ships, it was later modified to serve as a research vessel. Equipped with its own helicopter and manned by 15 crew members it has ample capacity to carry laboratory equipment and 80 passengers, functioning independently in harsh Polar ice packs of the Arctic and Antarctic seas. It was the first non-nuclear surface vessel to reach the North Pole (in 1991), together with the German research icebreaker Polarstern. It's a big year for Hong Kong's flag-carrier, Cathay Pacific; this year sees the airline celebrating their 80th anniversary and are celebrating in style not just with retro-jets but a return to the Spirit of Hong Kong adorned on one of their Boeing 777-300ERs. Compare to a few years ago when Cathay Pacific was struggling.

Cathay Pacific like many airlines have somewhat benefitted with the drop in demand by the Middle East carriers who have currently reduced their flight schedules as a result of the current war in Iran. As a result of the reduced flight schedules and hesitancy in flying via the Middle East, other airlines have been increasing capacity to get passengers from point A to point B.

For Cathay Pacific, the airline has temporarily been increasing the number of flights to and from their hub in Hong Kong towards Europe, with London Heathrow, Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Zürich-Kloten all featuring additional flights introduced on certain days. Cathay Pacific have also gone as far as to increase seating capacity on London Heathrow flights.

One of the temporary flight increases at London Heathrow commenced from 21st March 2026; CX2251/2252 has been operating every Thursday and Saturday thus far utilising Airbus A350-900s and at time of writing, Cathay Pacific have these flights booked until 18th April 2026. Another note is CX239/256 which is usually operated by Airbus A350-900s has seen 3-class Boeing 777-300ERs utilised on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only, with those flights available until 30th April 2026.

Currently, Cathay Pacific operates 48 Airbus A350s, which includes 30 Airbus A350-900s and 18 Airbus A350-1000s.

Lima X-Ray Bravo is one of 18 Airbus A350-1000s operated by Cathay Pacific, delivered new to the flag-carrier on 30th August 2018 and she is powered by 2 Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines.

The road to the border of India and Pakistan happens to be one of the most celebrated and historical highways in the world, that is now called the Grand Trunk Road. It runs from Calcutta to Kabul, and was first built some 3,500 years ago. It was referred to by various names to reflect the times and its age. Just like its cousin, the Silk Road, this Spice Road (as I have dubbed it) was indeed a road well-travelled. As Kipling describes it, “Brahmins and chumars, bankers and tinkers, barbers and bunnias, pilgrims and potters — all the world going and coming” and it was “such a river of life as nowhere else exists in the world.” Today, the Grand Trunk Road meets the hastily drawn “Radcliff Line” that serves as the border between India and Pakistan, in just about 20 miles west of Amritsar at Wagah.

For me, the short trip from Amritsar was very emotional. I could not help but contemplate life, humanity, and its survival along this road during the partition. On that August midnight, two nations were born like conjoined twins without a border. They remained so for another two days after independence. And those two days saw the bloodiest, most violent “suffering almost beyond imagining and beyond the human spirit’s capacity to endure.” On this road, there were columns of humanity extending for almost 50 miles, some on their bullock carts, most on their bare feet, often without their family whose dead bodies they left behind, migrating to seek an unknown future. In the end, it is estimated some 1-2 million people were killed and about 20 million people migrated, in one of the worst human tragedies of the last century.

Even today, the surgical wounds of the separation of these twins remain unhealed at this border. Every day, like clockwork, the Indian and Pakistani military personnel participate in a flag lowering ceremony that has become a spectator sport. Thousands gather in the newly constructed bleachers on either side of the border to witness, as Michael Palin puts it, “a carefully choreographed contempt.” He should know, as the soldiers on both sides put on a show as if they are from the “ministry of silly walks.”

As I was writing this, I was reminded of reading Mother Theresa’s words at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park: “the terrible evil that had brought so much suffering….may never happen again. Let us remember works of love and Prayer are works of Peace.” While there is no such memorial for this tragedy, volumes have been written about it, yet we seem to have not learned a lesson from it. Perhaps, it is best not to open any closed wounds, but we do need to silently say to ourselves, never again shall I ever let this happen!

South Gloucester Bus & Coach Volvo B11RT, YY65 VXB, is seen making a rare stop on Honiton Road to exchange passengers with the Falcon.

Because of an earlier incident on the inbound M6 the service was curtailed at Exeter with passengers using the Falcon to connect to Plymouth in either direction. This had the added benefit of giving me a lovely trip on Volvo B12BT, SV59CHG, which was put on the Falcon due to its larger capacity compared to the usual B11RT's to help cater for Megabus passengers.

PJM CAPACITY NEWS:

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved new capacity performance requirements this month. This marks the largest change to PJM’s capacity market its design in 2006. The ruling allows for little exceptions for resources that fail to perform during the few hours of “emergency conditions” that are determined each year. However, this does give generators the ability to charge more for capacity even though they are not improving the grids reliability. In other words, generators will gain more revenue even if they do nothing during emergency conditions.

The ruling comes on the heals of the extremely cold winter of 2013-2014. During that winter, 22% of the PJM’s capacity failed in a single day causing millions in uplift payments. The PJM is bracing for the worst, expecting coal plant retirements over the next few years will create further reliability issues.

ISO-NE CAPACITY NEWS:

The New England Independent System Operator is reporting that the growing market for renewable energy is helping to keep the average cost of electricity down. It is currently expecting 2,400 MW of solar generation to be available by 2024. That coupled with more than 800 MW of wind being utilized as of the end of last year has helped to keep cost low.

However, according to the ISO, traditional generation is being forced to charge higher capacity costs to make up for the lost revenue due to renewables. The more that solar and wind generation becomes available the more financial pressure is put on coal and nuclear.

THE RUB:

The balance of energy demand with energy supply is one of the most important objectives of an energy system. Capacity markets are designed to ensure that there are enough electricity capacity resources to serve customers on the hottest and coldest days of the year.

The news outlined above regarding 2 of the major capacity markets in the U.S. is a mixed bag. Despite new rules for one and additional resources for the other, customers can expect more of the same.

Volvo B7RLE/Wrightbus VWL163 previously based in Bus Eireann in Galway was transferred east to Drogheda for extra capacity for a realignment of routes.

The Mjölnir Class drone unit was recently unveiled to the public. It has yet to see field use though, as F. Corp. is not directly associated with any one particular group at this moment in time.

It has shown outstanding results both in field tests and simulations, operating precisely, and without any know defects at this time.

This unit is also outfitted with extended arms, to accept larger rail/beam weapons, if necessary.

Starting this update with Dundalk-based SE7. The 100X got brand new Volvo/Sunsundegui SC7 coaches at the start of this year to upgrade the busy 100X service from older Sunsundegui Sidereals which were in poor condition! The service has continued to grow, and as such higher capacity coaches have deemed to be needed - as such, SE7 has now transferred to provide said higher capacity. As a result, Dundalk have lost SC7 VE7, which appears to have settled in Broadstone.

SE8 is also due to move, with VE8 replacing it.

Sinds een korte tijd zijn er nieuwe Mercedes-Benz CapaCity bussen in dienst bij de Hochbahn. Waar voorheen alleen dubbelgelede 25m lange VanHool AGG300 bussen actief waren op de Metrobus lijn 5, vervangt de 21m lange Mercedes deze langzamerhand. With it only a month before the S20 schedule commences, a number of airlines are making last minute changes as capacity is adjusted... As demand to the Asia Pacific region has slumped, excess capacity is being spread across other regions to compensate for reduced demand.

Air Canada has unsurprisingly extended temporary cancellations for flights to Mainland China and Hong Kong, so to compensate for reduced demand, the carrier has changed its long-haul schedule for the upcoming S20 schedule due to commence from 29th March 2020 unless stated otherwise.

-Calgary: AC850/851 sees Boeing 787-9s replaced by the following during selected dates... Boeing 787-8s utilised between 30th March 2020 to 31st March 2020, Boeing 777-200LRs between 1st April 2020 to 30th April 2020, Airbus A330-300s between 1st May 2020 to 31st May 2020 and 20th September 2020 to 24th October 2020, and Boeing 777-300ERs between 1st June 2020 to 7th September 2020.

-Ottawa: AC888/889 sees Boeing 767-300ERs replaced by the following during selected dates... Boeing 787-8s utilised between 1st April 2020 to 30th May 2020 and 8th September 2020 to 24th October 2020, and Airbus A330-300s between 31st May 2020 to 7th September 2020.

-Toronto-Pearson: Various aircraft changes affecting numerous flights... Effective 1st May 2020, AC868/859 sees Airbus A330-300s replace Boeing 777-200LRs. AC856/869 originally planned for Boeing 787-9s to operate during the entire S20 schedule, however Boeing 787-8s will operate on selected dates between 31st May 2020 to 7th September 2020 alongside Boeing 787-9s. Effective 1st May 2020, AC848/849 will utilise high-density Boeing 777-300ERs.

The last minute changes sees Boeing 787s reallocated to other destinations as their demand for use in the Asia Pacific region has reduced... In this instance, they will become prominent in Ottawa and Toronto as Boeing 767-300ERs continue to be replaced.

Announced during Air Canada's financial report for the last quarter of 2019 sees the airline further expanding its Airbus A330 fleet, the carrier is already in the process of introducing 5 second-hand Airbus A330-300s, a further 4 will be introduced during 2020 which will arrive from Singapore Airlines.

Currently, Air Canada operates 37 Boeing 787s, which includes 8 Boeing 787-8s and 29 Boeing 787-9s.
