Whistler Blackcomb is a ski resort located in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. By many measures, it is the largest ski resort in North America and has the greatest uphill lift capacity. It features the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for moving between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains at the top.

Si l'on regarde l'offre actuelle des différents constructeurs en matière de boîtiers photo, tous les modèles affichent une fiche technique particulièrement fournie. Dès lors, une question récurrente se pose : est-il possible de tomber sur un "mauvais" boîtier ?

 

En fait, tout dépend de ce dont on parle. En termes de qualité d'image, tous les boîtiers, même en entrée de gamme, sont capables de livrer des clichés très qualitatifs, avec un bon niveau de détails et une excellente restitution des couleurs. De même, tous les boîtiers vendus aujourd'hui dépassent (et de très loin) les performances de leurs aînés sur les photos en basse lumière. Il y a quelques années, capturer des clichés à 6400 ISO était presque impensable ; aujourd'hui, c'est devenu quelque chose de "presque" banal.

 

En fait, la différence entre deux boîtiers va se jouer sur d'autres critères. Je pense notamment à l'autofocus : non seulement en termes de vitesse d'accroche du sujet, mais aussi d'efficacité de la détection et du suivi du sujet et de son œil (humain, animaux, véhicules, etc).

 

De même, la vitesse en rafale – mais aussi la capacité de la mémoire tampon (buffer) – sont deux aspects importants.

Enfin, l'ergonomie va être un point assez intéressant à étudier : même au sein d'une même marque, certains appareils s'avèrent plus agréables à prendre en main et à utiliser que d'autres.

 

En définitive et dans mon cas de figure, j’ai décidé de ne plus faire l’acquisition de nouveaux boîtiers même, si je dois vous l’avouer avoir été très intéressé par le nouveau Nikon Z9 après l’avoir eu en mains pendant quelques temps et prêté gratuitement par l’importateur de l’enseigne en Belgique !

 

Ma conclusion est qu’avec ma collection relativement importante de boîtiers et d’objectifs Nikon, j’ai décidé de continuer de shooter avec mes deux boîtiers phares à savoir le D500 et le D4s et d’utilisés les autres qu’occasionnellement !

Pour les objectifs le problème est évidemment différent puisqu’ils resteront toujours fonctionnels avec n’importe quel boîtier choisi !

If we look at the current offer of the various manufacturers in terms of photo cameras, all the models display a particularly extensive technical sheet. Therefore, a recurring question arises: is it possible to come across a "bad" box?

 

In fact, it all depends on what we are talking about. In terms of image quality, all cameras, even entry-level, are capable of delivering high-quality shots, with a good level of detail and excellent color reproduction. Similarly, all cameras sold today exceed (by far) the performance of their elders in low-light photos. A few years ago, capturing shots at ISO 6400 was almost unthinkable; today, it has become something "almost" commonplace.

 

In fact, the difference between two boxes will be played on other criteria. I'm thinking in particular of the autofocus: not only in terms of the speed of capturing the subject, but also of the effectiveness of the detection and tracking of the subject and its eye (human, animals, vehicles, etc.).

 

Likewise, burst speed – but also buffer capacity – are two important aspects.

Finally, ergonomics will be a rather interesting point to study: even within the same brand, some devices are more pleasant to handle and use than others.

 

In the end and in my case, I decided not to acquire new cameras even, if I must admit to you that I was very interested in the new Nikon Z9 after having had it in my hands for a few time and loaned free of charge by the importer of the sign in Belgium!

 

My conclusion is that with my relatively large collection of Nikon cameras and lenses, I decided to continue shooting with my two flagship cameras, the D500 and the D4s and only used the others occasionally!

For the lenses the problem is obviously different since they will always remain functional with any chosen case!

Lake Thun (German: Thunersee) is an Alpine lake in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland named after the city of Thun, on its northern shore. At 48.3 km2 (18.6 sq mi) in surface area, it is the largest Swiss lake entirely within a single canton.

 

The lake was created after the last glacial period. After the 10th century, it split from Lake Brienz, before which the two lakes were combined, as Wendelsee ("Lake Wendel"). The culminating point of the lake's drainage basin is the Finsteraarhorn at 4,274 metres (14,022 ft) above sea level.

 

Lake Thun's approximate 2,500 square kilometres (970 sq mi) catchment area frequently causes local flooding after heavy rainfalls. This occurs because the river Aare (German: Aare), which drains Lake Thun, has only limited capacity to handle the excess runoff. The lake is fed by water from Lake Brienz to the southeast, which is 6 metres (20 ft) higher than Lake Thun, and various streams in the Oberland, including the Kander.

 

In 1835, passenger steamships began operating regularly on the lake. Ten passenger ships, operated by the local railway company BLS AG like Blümlisalp, serve the towns of Interlaken and Thun; the Interlaken ship canal and Thun ship canal connect the lake to Interlaken West railway station and Thun railway station respectively.

 

Following World War II and up until 1964, the Swiss Government disposed of unused munitions into Lake Thun. The quantity of munitions dumped is reported to be from 3,000 to more than 9,020 tons.

Der Thunersee ist ein Fjordsee im Berner Oberland am nördlichen Alpenrand. Der See ist 17,5 km lang und max. 3,5 km breit. Seine Fläche beträgt 47,85 km²; damit ist er der grösste nur in einem Kanton liegende See der Schweiz. Die maximale Tiefe beträgt 217 m.

 

Geschichte und Geographie

 

Nach der letzten Eiszeit bildete sich dort, wo heute zwei Seen liegen, der so genannte Wendelsee. Durch Ablagerungen von Geschiebe der verschiedenen Bergbäche (vor allem durch den Lombach und die Lütschine) entstand ungefähr in der Mitte des Sees eine Ebene, das Bödeli. Diese Schwemmebene, auf der heute die Gemeinden Interlaken, Matten und Unterseen liegen, teilte den See in den Thuner- und den Brienzersee. Seit der frühen Bronzezeit befanden sich im nördlichen Becken des Thunersees Pfahlbauersiedlungen, die sich über ein Areal von mindestens 15'000 m² verteilten.

 

Der Inhalt des Thunersees beträgt rund 6,5 km³. An der den See durchfliessenden Aare, die an seiner Nordspitze den Thunersee verlässt, liegt die namengebende Stadt Thun.

 

Bei Normalwasserstand liegt der Seespiegel auf 557,8 m ü. M. Der Thunersee hat ein Einzugsgebiet von 2500 km². Bei längeren, starken Niederschlägen trat der See über die Ufer, da die Abflusskapazität der Aare beschränkt war. Seit 2009 ist ein Hochwasserentlastungsstollen in Betrieb, der eine zusätzliche Abflusskapazität von 100 m³/s aufweist. Die vorausschauende Regulierung des Abflusses aus dem Thunersee und die Staufunktion des Thunersees ersparen der tiefergelegenen Stadt Bern einige Überschwemmungen.

 

Der maximale Abfluss ohne Stollen beträgt 345 m³ pro Sekunde, der mittlere Abfluss liegt bei 110 m³/s. Sein Hauptzufluss, die Aare, wird im Südosten vom 6 Meter höhergelegenen Brienzersee gespeist.

 

Wie in anderen Schweizer Seen wurde auch im Thunersee zwischen 1945 und 1964 Munition versenkt, Schätzungen gehen von 4500 Tonnen aus.

 

Die Fischart Kropfer ist im Thunersee endemisch.

 

Wirtschaft und Tourismus

 

Von der Fischerei im Thunersee leben mehrere Berufsfischer. Im Jahr 2001 betrug ihr Gesamtertrag 53'048 Kilogramm. In Faulensee betreibt die Fischereiaufsicht des Kantons eine Fischaufzuchtanlage. Mit dem Einsetzen von Fischen werden sowohl Artenförderung betrieben als auch menschliche Eingriffe kompensiert.

 

1835 betrieben Johannes Knechtenhofer und seine Brüder das erste Dampfschiff, die Bellevue, auf dem See. Heute betreibt die BLS Schifffahrt eine Flotte von zehn Schiffen, darunter den historischen Schaufelraddampfer Blümlisalp sowie von 2001 bis 2003 das weit über die Region hinaus bekannte Drachenschiff (umgebautes Motorschiff Stadt Thun).

 

An den Ufern des Thunersees wird in den Gemeinden Thun, Spiez, Oberhofen und Hilterfingen Weinbau betrieben. Weisse Sorten sind Müller-Thurgau und Chardonnay, rote Sorten sind Garanoir und Pinot Noir. Das Rebbaugebiet Thunersee besitzt seit dem 1. Januar 2008 den gesetzlichen Status einer AOC.

 

Seit 2011 wird rund um den Thunersee ein 56 Kilometer langer Panorama-Wanderweg angelegt, mit mehreren grossen Hängebrücken.

Das Morgenberghorn ist ein 2249 m ü. M. hoher Berg am Südufer des Thunersees im Berner Oberland in der Schweiz. Es liegt im Westen des Saxettals.

 

Der Gipfel des Morgenberghorns ist nur zu Fuss erreichbar. Der Aufstieg erfordert keine Bergsteigerkenntnisse, jedoch Trittsicherheit. Aufstiegsmöglichkeiten bestehen ab Leissigen und Aeschi über den Nordwestgrat und von Saxeten aus über den Rengglipass und den Südgrat. Der Nordostgrat von Interlaken aus weist sehr schmale und ausgesetzte Stellen auf und ist keine offizielle Aufstiegsroute.

 

Südlich des Morgenbergs erhebt sich die Schwalmere (2777 m ü. M.), durch den Rengglipass (1879 m ü. M.) getrennt.

Twilight at the O2 Arena in London, next to the river Thames. The night before we saw Genesis play their very last concert there. So emotional for us lifelong fans...just HAD to go. I took some photos of the concert but they weren't as good as last October. Had my SLR confiscated on the way in but still had a back-up pocket camera in reserve!

 

Titled the photo after one of my favourite Genesis tracks. Brought tears to the eyes last night.

 

For those who don't know the original structure was erected as the Millennium Dome in 2000 as an exhibition hall. It was an economic disaster (as only us Brits do) and closed to the public after only one year. In 2007 it re-opened as one of the UK's major concert venues, capacity 20,000.

"Following the resounding success of his 1500cc cars which secured the first four places in the most important voiturette race of the 1921 season at Brescia, Ettore Bugatti decided that the time had come for him to consider competing in the Grands Prix, then as now the pinnacle of European motor racing. Accordingly he set about the design of an entirely new model which was destined to become his first eight cylinder design to enter production and the forerunner of the wide range of racing and sports Bugattis, most notably the Type 35 Grand Prix model and the Grand Sport Type 43, which were introduced over the following decade.

The Type 29 Bugatti engine was designed initially in 1500cc form, but its capacity was soon increased to two litres to match the new Grand Prix regulations which were to come into force at the start of the 1922 season. A batch of five chassis frames was prepared which strictly were designated Type 22 on account of their 2.4 meter wheelbases, but they featured new cross-members and were in effect shortened versions of the subsequent 2.85 meter wheelbase standard Type 30 production frames.

These first chassis were fitted with newly designed front and rear axles and a new steering box, but retained initially the same gearbox as was used on the 1500cc four cylinder models. The front axle was equipped with hydraulic front brakes, a novelty at the time, while the rear axle retained cable-operated brakes, the drums of which were of much larger diameter, and the radiator was an enlarged version of that of the concurrent 16 valve model.

As with most of the chassis features, the engine too was of an entirely new design, a straight eight with its crankshaft running in three large ball-races and having bronze-bearings in the connecting rods, all mounted, for the one and only time in a Bugatti engine, in a one-piece barrel crankcase. The twin four cylinder blocks featured fixed heads with two spark plugs and three vertical valves per cylinder, two small inlets and one large exhaust. The valves were actuated via finger-type rockers from a single overhead camshaft contained within a rectangular aluminum cambox mounted on top of the engine and driven by shafts and bevel gears from the nose of the crankshaft." --

 

"The first four chassis produced were allocated the numbers 4001 - 4004 inclusive, the first of a new series of chassis numbers intended to distinguish these new eight cylinder models from their contemporary four cylinder brethren. These four cars were entered as a factory team for the 1922 French Grand Prix which was to be held on 16th July around a triangular road circuit near Strasbourg, conveniently adjacent to Bugatti's Molsheim factory.

Initially the cars were equipped with bolster-tank racing bodies similar to those of the racing Brescias, but shortly before the race they were replaced with far more streamlined coachwork, being of circular cross-section throughout from the cowled radiator to the pointed tail through the center of which the exhaust was discharged. Little wonder that these bodies were immediately likened to cigars!

In the race itself the Bugattis faced strong opposition, in particular from the Fiat and Sunbeam teams, while Count Louis Zborowski was driving one of the 1500cc Aston Martin twin-cam cars which he had personally financed. The race was held over a distance of 500 miles which proved too much for most of the 18-car field, only four running at the fall of the flag, three of which were Bugattis. The race was easily won by the sole surviving Fiat, another of which had crashed two laps from the finish but had still covered more distance than the third Bugatti. Thus, although denied a victory in their debut Grand Prix, the Bugattis had accounted well for themselves, particularly in respect of their reliability."

Symphony of the Seas is an Oasis-class cruise ship owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. She was built in 2018 in the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, the fourth in Royal Caribbean's Oasis class of cruise ships. At 228,081 GT, she is the largest cruise ship in the world by gross tonnage, surpassing her sister ship Harmony of the Seas, also owned by Royal Caribbean International.

 

Symphony of the Seas measures 361.011 meters (1,184 ft 5.0 in) in length and has a gross tonnage of 228,081 across 18 decks. She is able to accommodate 5,518 passengers at double occupancy up to a maximum capacity of 6,680 passengers, as well as a 2,200-person crew. There are 16 decks for guest use, 22 restaurants, 4 pools, and 2,759 cabins.

 

Symphony of the Seas is about 30 meters (98 feet) longer than the largest military ships ever built, the U.S. Nimitz-class aircraft carriers.

 

Facilities include a children's water park, a full-size basketball court, an ice-skating rink, a zip line that is 10 decks high, a 1400-seat theater, an outdoor aquatic theater with Olympic-height platforms, and two 43-foot (13 m) rock-climbing walls. There is also a park containing over 20,000 tropical plants.

 

Symphony of the Seas is powered onboard by six marine-diesel sets each composed of three 16-cylinder Wärtsilä 16V46D common rail engines and three 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 12V46D engines.

 

The energy-efficient design of Symphony of the Seas enables it to accomplish shipboard power generation with 85 MW versus the 100 MW normally found on Oasis-class ships. One of the key design features is the use of only LED or fluorescent lights in order to avoid the heat generation from incandescent bulbs, thereby reducing the load on air conditioning systems.

 

Additional energy efficiency is accomplished by using a 2 MW steam turbine to recover waste heat from the engines and converting it into energy to power a portion of the onboard hotel load.

 

For propulsion, Symphony of the Seas uses three 20,000 kilowatt azipod main engines, which are electric thrusters. These engines are mounted under the stern of the ship and they each drive 20 foot wide rotatable propellers. In addition to the three main engines, there are four bow thrusters used for docking, each with 5,500 kilowatts of power or 7,380 horsepower.

 

Among the Oasis-class ships, Symphony of the Seas uses 25% less fuel due to the implementation of a new system that releases tiny air bubbles under the hull to enable the vessel to glide more smoothly through the water. The air layer also reduces excitation from the propellers, which cuts noise and vibration levels in the aft part of the ship.

I've seen freight yards with 2 yard mules parked together, but never 4 in a row. I also don't think I've ever seen a "Capacity" yard mule before and here were 3 plus one Autocar. Looking at all the mules and the large number of trailers, I'm guessing this place must ship a lot of goods.

If there's one thing that defines the Eurasian Sparrowhawk, apart from its skills and dexterity during flight, it's its loyalty to its partner throughout its life.

The Eurasian sparrowhawk may not be a 100% monogamous bird. Sometimes in the life of the sparrowhawk there may be situations where one member of the pair disappears, for whatever reason.

 

According to studies, every year, established sparrowhawk pairs remain steady, as long as the richness of their territory is maintained. If the prey is scarce, both partners look for a new territory nearby in which to settle together and build the nest.

 

The main reason why a pair of hawks separates is because of the lack of offspring. First, when a pair fails to have chicks, the first thing they do is change territory.

 

If the following year the couple also fails to conceive, it’s usually the female that goes in search of a new territory and a new partner. The male tends to stay in the old territory and look for a new female to reproduce with there.

 

The Eurasian sparrowhawk isn’t one of the fastest birds of prey, as it’s outpaced by birds such as the peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), which can travel at up to 240 miles per hour. However, the 75 miles per hour that sparrowhawks can reach are nothing to laugh at.

 

Like all birds of the Falconidae family, these animals are extremely fast and agile in flight. Their capacity makes them skillful predators of small, fast prey.

We know that weaker and sicker animals are easier prey in nature. If a mammal limps, a bird flies poorly or demonstrates changes in its behavior that expose it more to predation, it’s very likely that it’ll be hunted rather than a healthy and strong animal. However, this isn’t always the case, as healthy animals are also often preyed upon.

 

Sparrowhawks feed mainly on passerines or songbirds. In addition, there’s a marked difference in the diet of the female and male Eurasian sparrowhawk. They hunt birds that weigh between 1.4 to 1.8 ounces. At most, they may hunt birds weighing up to 4.25 ounces. Their favorite prey are finches, sparrows, and great tits.

 

On the other hand, females have a predilection for larger prey. In general, the average weight of the birds hunted by a female sparrowhawk is between 1.75 and 2.5 ounces, but they’re able to capture animals weighing up to a little over a pound.

 

The most interesting thing about this is that, according to one study, these birds are able to select prey infected with blood parasites, such as Leucocytozoon or malaria. Infected birds are 16 to 25% more likely to be caught than those that aren’t.

   

Located in the seaside town of Sidmouth, Devon. The Radway Theatre opened as a live theatre on 25th June 1928. It was designed by local architect P.E. Steadman. Seating was provided for 680; there were 520 seats in the stalls and 160 seats in the circle. The proscenium was 27 feet wide and the stage was 22 feet deep, with four dressing rooms. The auditorium ceiling is made of patterned pressed tin, an unusual material to use in the UK, especially in a cinema.

 

Soon after opening, talking pictures arrived and the theatre was converted into a full time cinema, to the plans of noted cinema architect William Henry Watkins. Little alteration was done to the auditorium, it was mainly the foyer area alterations and provision of a projection suite that he was responsible for. It re-opened as the Radway Cinema on 2nd December 1929 with Estelle Brody in "Kitty". In 1936 it was re-named Palace Theatre, but went back to its original name the next year.

 

In the 1950’s a wider 41 feet proscenium was installed and the seating capacity was reduced to 365. The cinema was closed in 1984 for modernisation and re-opened 17th August 1985 with "A Passage to India" under the current operator. Closed for further improvement in March 2000, the cinema currently seats 270.

SS Great Britain is a museum ship and former passenger steamship, which was advanced for her time. She was the longest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1854. She was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the Great Western Steamship Company's transatlantic service between Bristol and New York. While other ships had been built of iron or equipped with a screw propeller, Great Britain was the first to combine these features in a large ocean-going ship. She was the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic, which she did in 1845, in the time of 14 days.

 

The ship is 322 ft (98 m) in length and has a 3,400-ton displacement. She was powered by two inclined 2 cylinder engines of the direct-acting type, with twin 88 in (220 cm) bore, 6-foot (1.8 m) stroke cylinders. She was also provided with secondary sail power. The four decks provided accommodation for a crew of 120, plus 360 passengers who were provided with cabins and dining and promenade saloons.

 

When launched in 1843, Great Britain was by far the largest vessel afloat. However, her protracted construction and high cost had left her owners in a difficult financial position, and they were forced out of business in 1846 having spent all their funds re-floating the ship after she was run aground at Dundrum Bay after a navigational error. In 1852 she was sold for salvage and repaired. Great Britain carried thousands of immigrants to Australia from 1852 until converted to sail in 1881. Three years later, she was retired to the Falkland Islands where she was used as a warehouse, quarantine ship and coal hulk until scuttled in 1937.[2]

 

In 1970, following a cash donation by Sir Jack Hayward that paid for the vessel to be towed back to the UK, Great Britain was returned to the Bristol dry dock where she was built. Now listed as part of the National Historic Fleet, she is an award-winning visitor attraction and museum ship in Bristol Harbour, with between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors annually.

Recently acquired from Colas Rail Freight and the first of the GBRf 'Tugs' to be outshopped in its new owner's livery.

GBRf 60095 is seen heading through Broad Green with the early running 6F63 Ashton-in-Makerfield Kelbit Siding - Tuebrook Sidings empty aggregates.

This is a newflow - the origination of the aggregate being Shap Quarry and the loaded working runs overnight to Liverpool Tuebrook Sidings whereupon the train is split due to capacity issues on the branch at Ashton-in-Makerfield..

The two consists then form a morning and afternoon round trip to Ashton-in-Makerfield Kelbit Sidings for unloading before the empties are reformed as a single consist for the next working to Shap Quarry for loading.

Following the re-introduction of front door boarding, the maximum capacity of buses has changed due to social distancing. Therefore, even though this bus normally has a maximum capacity of 57 and has 31 seats, it can now only carry 10 passengers. Metroline West ADL Enviro200 DEL2145 (LK65EAA) shows off the new features whilst out on the 331.

New contract - Go-Ahead London E264 (SN62DFL) on route 291 to Woodlands Estate at Woolwich on 08/12/2018

 

In readiness for the introduction of Crossrail (or to give its proper name - the Elizabeth Line), the 291 gained a substantial capacity increase in the form of Alexander Dennis Enviro400s, and Go-Ahead won the contract running the route out of it's Morden Wharf garage in Greenwich.

 

In sharp contrast to the 9.6m Enviro200s they replaced, these vehicles carry roughly the same number of passengers on the lower deck alone as their predecessors did, so the overcrowding issues on the route should no longer be an issue.

Disappeared Quipu is a poem in space-a time-based work in dialogue with historical quipus ("knot"in Quechua).

 

For millennia ancient people's of the Andes created quipus:complex record- keeping devices that served as an essential medium for reading and writing,registering and remembering,through an intricate system of knot making.In a career spanning five decades the artist, poet,and filmmaker Cecelia Vicuña has transformed the rich cultural legacies of the Andean region,reimagining the historical within jet contemporary practice.With feminism as a unifying theme and her ongoing series of work called Precarious (Precario) as a conceptual precursor,she explores the shifting nature of language and memory;the resilience of native people in the face of repression;and her own experiences,living in exile from her native Chile,following the military coup of 1973.

 

Vicuña has devoted a significant part of her artistic practice studying,interpreting,and reactivating the multidimensional potential of the quipu and it's ritual aspect,banned by the Spanish during their colonization of South America.Drawing from her indigenous heritage she creates installations and transformative ritual performances address issues of homogenization,ecological disasters,and human rights.Disappeared Quipu is part of decades-long explorations that often includes activation by the artist,in which she moves,alone or with others,among the fibers and knotted strands of the work,linking movement,sound and material to enact a physical relationship with the legacy embodied by the quipu.For Vicuña each knot of her "quipus for the future"bears witness to the connection and collective and expressive capacities of a language largely lost to history.

 

Created specially for this project calls attention to the disappearance of knowledge through the loss of a complex,ancient textile tradition.Vicuña's work links people of the past,present,and future in a collective art of resistance and remembrance celebrating the centuries long cultural legacy of the Andean people.

From this perspective, you can see practically the entire reservoir, which this year we are fortunate to enjoy with very good water reserves, approximately 70% of its total capacity.

 

Believe me when I tell you that while I was taking the photo, I could only enjoy the songs of some birds, which added even more beauty to the moment.

Vista del pueblo de Navacerrada desde este mirador en el cual disfruté de apacibles momentos observando la llegada de una nueva noche en este bello rincón de la Sierra de Guadarrama.

 

Desde esta perspectiva se distingue prácticamente todo el embalse, que este año tenemos la suerte de disfrutar con muy buenas reservas de agua, aproximadamente al 70% de su capacidad total.

 

Creedme si os digo que mientras tomaba la foto podía disfrutar únicamente del canto de algunas aves, que aportaban aún más belleza al momento.
