In partnership with the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), FAO Indigenous Peoples team in OPCA and the Land Tenure team in NRC built a one-year capacity-development programme specifically designed with and for Indigenous Peoples. Its aim is to explore how they can use the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in support of their land tenure rights. Built around the most common challenges faced by indigenous peoples, the first trainings took place in November in Assam and Odisha respectively for North East and Central India and will continue in Indonesia and Central America.

Institutional Capacity of Civil Society Organizations in Pakistan - Baseline Study Launch

Approaching Amsterdam Schiphol airport and seeing this huge trainset with 12 double coaches. That`s capacity! Mind that this does not even fit on the platform. This is also intended like this because the train is an Intercity train and the platform only for local trains. However, interesting...

Some more details for the freaks: The picture shows Intercity 3060 on its way from Utrecht to Amsterdam (due 18:46h). So that means, less than 10 minutes more to go top its next stop.

Design

Built in the Brutalist architectural style between 1968 and 1969, designed by Keith Ingham and Charles Wilson of Building Design Partnership with E. H. Stazicker, it has a capacity of 80 double-decker buses, 40 along each side of the building. Some claim that it is the second largest bus station in Western Europe. Pedestrian access to the Bus Station is through any of three subways, one of which links directly to the adjacent Guild Hall, while the design also incorporates a multi-storey car park of five floors with space for 1,100 cars.

The building's engineers, Ove Arup and Partners, designed the distinctive curve of the car park balconies "after acceptable finishes to a vertical wall proved too expensive, contributing to the organic, sculptural nature of the building. The edges are functional, too, in that they protect car bumpers from crashing against a vertical wall. The cover balustrade protects passengers from the weather by allowing buses to penetrate beneath the lower parking floor."

Threatened demolition

The building is threatened with demolition as part of the City Council's Tithebarn redevelopment project. In 2000, opposition to the demolition led to a failed application for listed building status by English Heritage. Preston Borough Council (as it was then known) opposed the application.

Putting forward the case for a smaller terminus, a report, commissioned by the council and Grosvenor in 2000, stated that "buses arriving and leaving the bus station have very low bus occupancy rates indicating that passengers alight and board elsewhere in the town centre. The bus station car park similarly suffers from the poor pedestrian linkages." Listing was subsequently rejected.

On October 11, 2005, Preston City Council and developer Grosvenor Holdings signed an agreement to go ahead with the Tithebarn redevelopment project, which calls for the demolition of the current bus station.

A survey conducted by the Lancashire Evening Post in May 2010 found that Preston Bus Station was Preston people's favourite building.

A further application to list the bus station was rejected in 2010 and a review of the decision was turned down in 2011. It featured on the 2012 World Monument Fund's list of sites at risk.

It featured in a song on the show All Over the Place.

How to calculate the working time:

Ask: how to know the exactly capacity of this battery, and how long will it works on my notebook?

Answer: please look at the detail of your notebook battery. Normally the parameters on the back of the original battery will tell you the Voltage (V), Watts (Wh), or mAh.

For example, if the parameters of your notebook battery is 11V/4000mAh, so we can know the right capacity from the massage provide above.

11.1V=5333mAh

So we can know that : 5333mAh / 4000mAh = 1.33 (times)

if you original battery can last for 3.5 hours, that means this product can last for 3.5(h) *1.33=4.65(h).

This workshop was the fourth capacity-building workshop organised by HD and THC (in September 2016). The workshop brought together 26 participants including FKUB members, representatives of the Batu Gantung, Waringin, Poka and Rumah Tiga communities, and members of the local peace network. It focused on improving the participants’ understanding of mediation processes and tools. It also sought to provide participants with opportunities to share their experiences of mediation.

The Nimpkish is a special vessel in the BC Ferries fleet. She is the shortest ferry, at just under 34 meters. She has the lowest car capacity (16 - tied with the Mill Bay) and passenger capacity (133). She also is one of the most well-travelled ferries in the fleet, despite being only used for a relief vessel in recent years. The Nimpkish has served on routes ranging from places like Nanaimo, Bella Coola, and Cortes Island. She has three sister ships that still operate on the coast, but not as part of the BC Ferry fleet: the Nicola, Albert J. Savoie, and the Garibaldi II. The latter vessel could be returning to BC Ferries in early 2006.

Today

Your best chance of seeing the Nimpkish would be to take the ferry from Powell River to Blubber Bay, Texada Island. The Nimpkish is tied up at Blubber Bay for much of the year, alongside the Tachek. However, the Nimpkish is often used as a relief vessel on minor routes, especially in the winter time when ferries are most likely to go in for maintenance and refits. She is the main relief vessel on the Heriot Bay (Quadra Island) - Whaletown (Cortes Island) route, replacing the Tenaka when needed. She can also be sometimes found as a replacement vessel on the Denman Island - Hornby Island route and the Port McNeill - Sointula - Alert Bay route. On busier routes, the Nimpkish will sometimes run alongside another relief vessel during busy times when the larger regular vessel is out of service. nimpkish At other times, the Nimpkish will be called up to the north coast when the Queen of Prince Rupert is out of service. The Nimpkish connects some of the remote coastal communities with the Queen of the North on the regular Inside Passage run.
