We celebrated my in-laws who recently had their 50th Wedding Anniversary by eating out this Sunday evening. Was a great time, and once the daylight dropped outside to blue hour, I pulled out the camera to shoot some portraits as we sat at the table. My eldest daughter here was across from me, and I was able to take this capture without using the flash in the low lighting. It was much darker there than what this photo shows, and it is just amazing what the higher ISO images that the sensors can capture without the need of a flash.

Also having the image stabilizer on this lens helped here as I was zoomed in at 105mm and hand held at 1/30 second.

I've captured eagles, osprey, and flying ducks ... all are a piece of cake compared to getting a portrait of Ms. Krach ...

She hates her smile and photo being taken ... I was able to sneak in this quick capture last night while at my cousin's wedding reception. As she was having a fun conversation, her smile here is natural, not forced. Saw the hanging lights were behind her as I was sitting at the table, so quickly focused and snapped of the capture using some bounce flash at higher ISO. Really love the Canon 5D Mark III at high ISO ... almost as much as I love Ms. Krach.

Don't let her know I took this ;)

I had a great time shooting with 12 other photographers from Hong Kong and our guest from Guam tonight. Our last stop was the infamous fruit wholesale market at Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong. I had a clear vision as to what I wanted to shoot and most of the shots turned out quite ok. So I will be uploading shots from this evening before I do the Vietnam ones.

The sky really looked like it was brewing a kick ass sunset, sadly by the time I got to Tenny the clouds had taken over and muted out the sun.

Leaving the chaotic life to spend some quiet in the woods. It is so silent with the snow falling fast all around me. It is so cold but so beautiful.

You know you're in Arizona when...

After making the two mile hike to Camp Randall to purchase tickets for an upcoming UW-Badgers hockey game, I found myself drawn to my new surroundings. While the city of Madison is my home, I still find new views and interesting sites upon my travels (including strangers time to time) and today was no different. The weather was basically winter in a nutshell, warm enough to go out but wet enough to keep one in. Because I was out, I set myself the mission to find someone for my (608)strangers project, on such a day.

This woman caught my eye at the bus stop, and after lengthy discussion I learned a few things about my mystery woman. She has been a resident of the United States for the last forty years, and upon leaving India she left all her friends behind; sad but she expressed that she has made many more new friends here in the USA. When I explained the concept of stranger photography, she found it to be similar to making new friends. In order to get to know someone new, we really have find out more about them; which is why I found myself hanging out with her at the bus stop for so long.

I asked if I could take her picture for the project, and she smiled and agreed; while we were a bit rushed as the bus soon to arrive I was able to snap off three quick frames. Of course, she had a load of groceries that she had purchased from Trader Joe's earlier in the day. She asked for my assistance to carry them onto the bus for her, so I did with a big smile on my face. As I stepped off the bus and waved goodbye, I realized I never got her name; but the impression she left on me was one that I will not soon forget.

Get out and meet new people, the world is full of them! Join my journey and the journey of others in the 100 strangers group here on Flickr. One of the more active groups that I am a member of, with excellent photographers a plenty!

I went downtown today to add some variety to the project, but was overwhelmed and intimated. There was so many people, too many choices. I had a tough time tracking down a model. Secondly, remember just a couple of days ago I said that I am getting better in asking people for pictures? Turns out I was wrong. I used to wander around bus stops or train stations, where people stand around and wait, which would be relatively easier for me to approach them. But when I was at downtown today, people were constantly moving. The challenge is how to stop a person without being rude. It's a totally different game.

Although it's though, the reward is also exceptionally great. Why? Let's let today's picture do the talking.

Thanks Elyse.
