This is along the Dallas Divide area looking at the Sneffles Range of the San Juan Mountains. This spring morning was mixed with sunshine, rain showers and dramatic clouds. The sun peaked through for this shot light the dandelions up!!
This area is one of my favorite places and I truly enjoy visiting and photographing it. Each day presents a different prospective with the ever changing light and clouds. The one thing that always stays the same is the beauty of the mountains themselves!!
Thanks for any comments or favs.

Canterbury Shaker Village
Canon 5D Mark ii with Canon 24-105mm F4L IS USM
Historic Canterbury Shaker Village is one of my favorite haunts. While some come to tour the historic buildings and to learn of the Shaker culture, I enjoy the simplicity of the grounds and the opportunities to pursue captures of images for both wildlife and landscape photography.
Hope you enjoy!

The nusery web spider (Pisaura mirabilis) can vary quite a lot in colouration, but is still easily identifiable because of the white sidburns which they always have and no other spider here does.
This female was carrying around all her eggs in that very spherical egg sac they make. Unlike wolf spiders who attach the sac to their spinnerets at the rear, Pisauridae spiders like this carry thm in their fangs.

Taken this morning and using a composition I tried earlier in the year. It amazes me how rough the sea can be but how still and flat this pond of standing water can be. My next visit will definitely be at low tide sunrise, as much as I have photographed this place recently I still don't quite feel I've had the best out of it yet......

I'd been planning on visiting this location for a while now - just waiting for the gates to the park to be unlocked before sunrise so I could get set up before hand... first time lucky I guess. I got there an hour before sunrise and I knew it was going be on fire
Unfortunately with all amazing sunrises, it is clear to see where the sun is about to come out and is massively over-exposed towards yellow... still. I hope my linhof on film, which included an underexposed photo and a .9 filter, instead of this shot which is of a .6 filter, works out... and smooths the water. I decided to shoot 400iso today too to try and retain some of that detail in the clouds. 50 iso can really blur out all the clouds with its minute long exposures

Tumbling waters from melting glaciers cut this gorge over eons. Today, it races through closely spaced walls and creates a constant roar and a splashing of fine cool spray (which is refreshing when it is hot and plain cold, when it is not).
This is near the west entrance to Glacier National Park and is well worth a visit. Go early in the morning, and get some time alone. I was there before 7 AM and had the place mostly to myself. Later, it gets packed with people.
Explore #98 Thanks everyone!

This little fuzzball kept waving at me from his purple thistle and even continued when he stepped onto my finger instead.
So, which bumblebee is it? Well, for starters, the narrow jaws with double-studded end and a chinstrap beard of long bent hairs below the jaw tells us it is a male.
Then the very long hairs on the front pair of legs reveal this to bee a cuckoo bumblebee.
Finally the yellow-black-yellow-black-white fur makes this either a Barbut's cuckoo-bee (Bombus barbutellus) or a gypsy's cuckoo bumblebee (Bombus bohemicus).

I usually shoot this bridge from the side to capture the light trail of vehicles. I thought I would try another perspective from below.
This amazing (and slightly over-the-top) design of a caterpillar is a vapourer or rusty tussock moth (Orgyia antiqua).
I've photographed these before, always on the leaves of the purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria), and think they make great subjects for macro captures, but when shooting this one I was a bit annoyed as those fine hairs coming from the red spots kept looking jagged on the camera's display, like the resolution was really really low or something.
Getting them up on the computer monitor however I realized that it was actually the other way around. The hairs are in fact feathered and while previous attempts didn't reveal this, the Canom MP-E65mm lens at 1.5:1 magnification is good enought to pick this up.
