Hot Creek is part of what remains of an ancient volcanic caldera in California's Mono County. Water in the area works its way deep into the heated ground and later rises to rejoin the creek, dramatically increasing the average water temperature in the process. The temperature can change dramatically as the flow from different vents changes, but it was more than hot enough to create plenty of steam on this cold morning.
Photo taken at the Hot Creek Geologic Site near Mammoth Lake, CA (USA).

A extreme closeup on the eyes on this female common hawker/sedge darner (Aeshna juncea). She's busy depositing her eggs in the garden pond and after a couple of tries she allowed me to get real close. In fact, I don't think I can get any closer with the 100mm + Raynox DCR-250 and still maintain focus.

I had to be so very careful in taking photos as I was using my Canon EF 24-70 f2.8 L lens at 51 mm f4.5 on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II - these little birds spook so easily from any movement it seems. I found I could not even move my arms one bit so had to go with what I had the camera set on for other photos I was taking. The light grabbed the throat in just the right angle to make it somewhat brilliant looking. Shot as a RAW image, cropped and processed in ON1 Photo Raw 2021.

Hello!
I am really behind on my project! I haven't posted in a couple of weeks - I just got back from Ireland where I took plenty of photos :)
I am probably going to be cheating a bit as I attempt to catch up! Sorry!
This photo was taken in a graveyard in the midlands of Ireland. The eldest grave there was from the 17th century. It was amazing.
I was lucky enough to have taken a ride with my husband a couple of days ago. We traveled across Kebler Pass. This well maintained dirt road goes from Paonia to Crested Butte. We returned home via Gunnison. It had been 39 years since we had made this trip. Things
change!!
We both love the ranch life and when I had the opportunity to take this shot of this ranch I couldn't resist. By the way, they were running Hereford cattle, yahoo!
I am not sure I like the composition, exactly, but every time I tried a crop I didn't like that as well, so I decided I would post and see if anyone had a better idea.
Thanks for looking,
Susan

Summer is here, and I am loving it. Beautiful light. Warm and dynamic.
A while back, I took a similar shot. I always like strong backlighted portraits, but it's always difficult to control the exposures. I think I did a better job this time.
Thank you Stephanie; with your sunglasses and big smile, the picture is filled with energy.

He should be old enough and wise enough to know that patience is a virtue.
Mondays are generally bad. This Monday is even worse than the others. Sandwiched between the internal conflicts of dumb clients, I have run out of patience and steam to find any motivation to work with an enthusiastic mind.
My first bite today came at 8:30pm.
