On Monday, Carl and I ate lunch in Lake Jackson at All-Star Pizza. We had the delicious buffet of pizza, calzones, and cookies. Afterwards we drove to Brazos Bend State Park where we saw some wildlife exhibits and saw some wildlife: butterflies, a deer, a snake, baby alligators, some birds, and a baby coyote?
Then we drove to the museum district of Houston. At the Houston Museum of Natural Science, we toured two exhibits: Terra Cotta Warriors and the Spirits & Headhunters: Vanishing Worlds of the Amazon. We also saw the skeletons of some dinosaurs and exhibits of animals from Africa.
We had planned to go to the Houston Zoo since it was open free to the public on Columbus Day, but they wouldn't let us inside since it was less than an hour before closing time. Instead we found Hermann Park with a pond, some ducks, some coy, a turtle, and some statues. It was a nice find at the end of the day.
We drove back to Lake Jackson and ate a most delicious steak at Salt Grass Steak House before returning to Carl's house for me to pack up and leave early the next morning.

I am exhausted in this picture. Spent all day making the calzones and also in the picture, you will see a pumpkin custard pie. My first of the Holiday season. Between the dough, cooking the makings and making the pie, I had been on my feet for 6 hours. Too much for my spine.
The vegan calzone was filled with daiya cheese, soy sausage, black olives, onions and artichoke hearts.

Cook in a hot oven (I had mine at maximum temperature) for 20 minutes. It should come out looking browned and sound sort of hollow when you knock on it.

Stel has a big ass calzone! I had a really nice burger and chips here but no visual evidence of this exists.
My "Man v Food moment." The calzone was actually a folded pizza and very good, especially with a tall cold Czech beer. When the waiter delivered it two different passing by tourists wanted to take a photo of it and one offered to take a photo with my camera resulting in this photo. The weather was beautiful and most restaurants have sidewalk tables. I did eat the entire calzone, washed down with a great Czech beer.
