Just a little sparkle in front of the Christmas tree today!

Christmas is a frighteningly sugar-laden holiday around here. Each of the kids gets to pick their favourite cookies, and then Claire helps them make it. Today was Nora's turn, and she's pretty pleased with the way her sugar cookies turned out! :)

I like the Christmas Village at Love Park in Philadelphia. There are holiday markets like this in New York, but this market seems more charming than those in New York.

Christmas Long Ago

A Xmas Poem by Jo Geis

Frosty days and ice-still nights,

Fir trees trimmed with tiny lights,

Sound of sleigh bells in the snow,

That was Christmas long ago.

Tykes on sleds and shouts of glee,

Icy-window filigree,

Sugarplums and candle glow,

Part of Christmas long ago.

Footsteps stealthy on the stair,

Sweet-voiced carols in the air,

Stocking hanging in a row,

Tell of Christmas long ago.

Starry nights so still and blue,

Good friends calling out to you,

Life, so fact, will always slow...

For dreams of Christmas long ago.

The Frankfurt Christmas Market in Germany is an annual outdoor Christmas market in Römerberg Platz. The market, with its beautiful historic buildings as a backdrop, is one of the oldest such "Christkindchesmarkets" in Germany dating back to the 1300s. I was fortunate to be there this year on December 6 -- Saint Nikolaus Day. It's an important day for children in Germany . . . as that is the day for gifts and celebrating.

So who is Saint Nikolaus? He was a bishop who lived in the 4th Century and became famous for his good deeds. Nikolaus is not to be confused with Santa Claus, who Germans call the Weihnachtsmann, or Father Christmas. They are two different people. In fact, many religious families try to focus more on Nikolaus earlier in December to ensure that Christmas is actually about Jesus’ birth, and not presents from an Americanized and commercialized Santa.

Our Christmas Tree. There are decorations that go on the tree year after year & some new ones each year.

I never fully appreciate the tree until I spend some time up close and take in the little hidden places between the branches.

A cabochon I made from polymer clay with a glass gem and bits of jewelry. There is a little sprig of holly and a Christmas tree. A fellow artist said it looked like an Australian Christmas...hot, brown and dusty. LOL! Well....I promise it's not dusty. XD

One of our camellia bushes sprouted a lone bloom just in time for Christmas!

He turned 2 in August so we thought the Christmas tree would be safe this year, however instead of pulling everything off it (as he did last year), he's "helping" by hanging everything and anything on it...
