This is part of an elaborate display from a past Victorian Vine Street Showcase event in Paso Robles. It occurs on a Saturday night before Christmas. Vine Street is closed to vehicles for several blocks. All the houses on those blocks are decorated and lighted.
Snacks and hot beverages are given away at some houses. Some houses have musicians or dancers. Sometimes there is an ice sculptor working. Sometimes there is a snow slide. The two biggest attractions are Scrooge's house and the Grinch's house.
This is a family event. People stroll the street taking in the sights and sounds, stoppng to listen to music or grab coffee or hot cider. Some haul children in wagons. I will be adding new photos from this event in my Christmas album.
I have this orchid, every Christmas Day the first bloom will open, here is the painting. watercolor on Arches 90lb rough paper, 12"x12".
Another quick shot today, my daughters school was closed due to the snow, so I had quite a bit of running around so that I could get to work. My mum was a star today though and looked after her until after I picked my son up from school.
This is one of her cactus that is now in full bloom and looks so pretty.
The Sumpter Valley Railroad’s Christmas Train and Sumpter Christmas Parade
One of our favorite holiday events in Baker County is the Sumpter Valley Railroad’s annual Christmas Train. An incredibly scenic train ride along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway from McEwen Station to Sumpter on a historic steam train with Santa. End the evening in downtown Sumpter for the annual lighted Christmas parade and tree lighting.
This festive weekend in Sumpter includes the annual Sumpter Christmas bazaar, Lighted Christmas Parade, lighting of the Community Christmas Tree and of course Santa and the Christmas Train

My daughter’s Christmas presents 😊 I am trying this year to have a low waste low carbon Christmas by gifting preloved and vintage as well as new gifts. I also thought I would try my hand at Furoshiki (Japanese scarf wrapping). I used actual scarves rather than the squares of fabric especially designed for this purpose so my wrapping techniques are somewhat ‘creative’! I also made some pretty tags printed on recycled paper and re-used some Lindor clear acrylic ‘balls’ which originally came filled with Lindt Lindor chocolates, that I have collected over the years.
This is the child of the original Christmas Cactus. It flowers slightly ahead of its parent.

got inspiration for this cake from a Christmas card www.flickr.com/photos/amatteroftaste/3128761204/in/photos...
Do you struggle for ideas when it comes to Christmas cakes? I made enough snowmen and penguins in my time and I am always looking for inspiration. Where do you get ideas for Christmas cakes?
Christmas Eve Fireworks are as regular an event as we we can make them. Some years they are more extensive than others, but we generally manage at least a quick round of fire & sparks.
