Christmas must be almost here - the Christmas bells (Blandfordia grandiflora) have appeared in Manly Dam.
I'm late getting this on but wanted to wish all my Flickr friends a very merry Christmas and wonderful New Year.
Taken with a Christmas lens, an Olympus 9mm f8 bodycap fisheye. I think this lens on one of my Olympus Pen bodies will make a fun little pocket shooter.
Until one feels the spirit of it, there is no Christmas. All else is outward display, so much tinsel and decorations. For it isn't the holly, the snow, the tree, not the firelight's glow. It's the warmth that comes to the hearts of men when it returns again.

This ornament was on a tree to be auctioned. It was created by the owners of a water garden store.

A solitary tree stands against the vast whiteness of a snow-covered hillside on Christmas Eve. The soft curves of the untouched snow and the gentle sweep of a single track lead the eye toward the tree, evoking a sense of quiet solitude and timeless stillness. The muted blue tones capture the cold embrace of winter, while the composition invites reflection on the beauty found in simplicity.

Christmas is an annual holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus. Christmas festivities often combine the commemoration of Jesus' birth with various secular customs, many of which have been influenced by earlier winter festivals. The date as a birthdate for Jesus is traditional, and is not considered to be his actual date of birth.
In most places around the world, Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25.
The word "Christmas" is a contraction of two words "Christ's mass" and is derived from the Middle English Christemasse and Old English Cristes mæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038. In early Greek versions of the New Testament, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of Christ (Χριστός). Since the mid-16th century Χ, or the similar Roman letter X, was used as an abbreviation for Christ. Thus, Xmas is an abbreviation for Christmas.
Modern traditions have come to include the display of Nativity scenes, Holly and Christmas trees, the exchange of gifts and cards, and the arrival of Father Christmas or Santa Claus on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. Popular Christmas themes include the promotion of goodwill and peace.

Have yourself a most abstract weekend.
The invisible subject is a vase with pine cones and Christmas lights. The very edge of the vase is on the lower right, where ilsebatten has added a note. The lights made a wonderful shadow (the horizontal line) on the night wall. I then used a movement blur at the same angle as the line and increased contrast.
I wanted to work on my still life layout and composition, what better way to do that than with dried fruits and christmas smells. I am a big fan of textures and all these different foods and spices feel so good to hold. Let me know your thoughts, practice and good critique is a sure fire way to improve! Lighting is just some back window light, nice and simple!!
Christmas morning 1915, Englewood, New Jersey. My father celebrated his first Christmas in the arms of his big sister. The clothes, decorations and old fashioned toys may be of another era, but my aunt's expression would match any child's today.
The picture was taken in 1915 and printed in 1916, as written on the photo.
This is an old family photo that I tried to enhance a bit in photoshop. The original is below in comments.
Way too busy lately with life, but here is another shot from my parents Christmas light display.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

(This is last Christmas Day, at a friend's house - the setting sun suddenly flashed out gold through a gap in the trees).
