not entirely what I had in mind... but close enough :) Merry Christmas!
"The earth has grown old with its burden of care
But at Christmas it always is young,
The heart of the jewel burns lustrous and fair
And its soul full of music breaks the air,
When the song of angels is sung."
~ Phillips Brooks (1835-93),
American Episcopal bishop,
wrote 'O Little Town of Bethlehem'.
Locust Valley is one of my favorite little hamlets in my area – mostly for its preserved natural beauty and Europe-esque houses, but also for its holiday spirit. Train 551, led by a boxy-looking cab car, sounds off for Birch Hill Road and rolls past the abandoned LOCUST Tower – which is decked out in Christmas splendor.
As the wife decorated the tree so well I thought I'd experiment with using my flash and fixed light to try and get some dynamic photos.
In the end though, just turning all the lights off in the room and allowing the fairy lights do the work produced the nicest picture.
Chuffed that I remembered to stop-down the aperture a bit to get the star-burst affect on the lights.
Christmas must be almost here - the Christmas bells (Blandfordia grandiflora) have appeared in Manly Dam.

What can I say, I really do love all the lights and decorations this time of year.. ;D
Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself...
~Norman Wesley Brooks, "Let Every Day Be Christmas," 1976
Hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas!!
These are ornaments from a tree in a display at a local museum. Many of the ornaments on this tree were similar to those that hung on our tree when I was a child.
A Christmas Photo Shoot with 8 cousins, a stack of gear, a load of props & 2 photographers (EpicDi & myself).

We celebrated Christmas 2006 at our home in Richmond, Virginia.
Each year, we exchanged gifts with my Norwegian cousins.
I'm petting my beloved cat, Stabbur, before opening my presents from Norway. He died in 2016. I still miss him a lot!!
This little fellow was out in the Hawthorn at the bottom of one of the fields eating Haws.
Happy Christmas my friends! Hope you all have a wonderful holiday. I'll be back soon.

Christmas morning 1915, Englewood, New Jersey. My father celebrated his first Christmas in the arms of his big sister. The clothes, decorations and old fashioned toys may be of another era, but my aunt's expression would match any child's today.
The picture was taken in 1915 and printed in 1916, as written on the photo.
This is an old family photo that I tried to enhance a bit in photoshop. The original is below in comments.
A text message for Christmas!!

I was driving by this neighborhood and saw this pretty house with Christmas lights on.

Way too busy lately with life, but here is another shot from my parents Christmas light display.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
#471 in Explore, 12/8/2007 -- Thanks friends!
Have yourself a most abstract weekend.
The invisible subject is a vase with pine cones and Christmas lights. The very edge of the vase is on the lower right, where ilsebatten has added a note. The lights made a wonderful shadow (the horizontal line) on the night wall. I then used a movement blur at the same angle as the line and increased contrast.

Spent about 17 years growing, less than 200 feet from where it will spend the holidays. Things were getting pretty crowded where it was, and the other tree around it will have a better spring with more light and water.
