Stir-fried egg noodles with sesame oil, firm tofu, edamame, soy sauce, mirin, prawns, nori, sesame seeds, and frozen mixed veggies all tossed together in a pan. Simple, but yummy :)
The last of the season's berries and local caught salmon resting on roasted eggplant. Tomato trio and 3 yellow one eyed beans.
A photo I made to illustrate a an article about making bentos for others (real bento) on my bento site. All the mini bentos are from the Everybody's Lunch series of Re-ment, except for the pink bento with the Panda rice and the Pocky, I mean Sticky, which are from the Elementary School series.
Showing how I pack differently for me. vs. someone with a bigger appetite! The one on the left is for The Guy and has about 700 calories (well he needs to lose weight too). The one on the right is mine and has about 450.
Shrimp and broccoli sautéed in a garlic butter sauce, tossed with linguine and fresh tomatoes. Dove milk chocolates. And, cracker barrel baby Swiss cut in cubes, mixed with red grapes, and being protected by a little elephant prince. With some mixed berry Nutri-Grain bar cut in pieces, in matching side container.
Commissioned Bento Box quilt for an old friend's new baby. Love the simplicity of this pattern and the monochromatic color scheme. The back is a cozy dotted flannel. Bound with satin binding.
Normal, plain ole stir fry noodles and apple rabbits.
I called this the "trial bento" because it is the first one where I experimented the moistness of certain foods. I hated putting pretzels (etc) in a bento the night before and once removed from the fridge in the morning they would be slightly moist. So now I leave a container where I'll stick the pretzels open and throw them in at the morning...and they aren't mushy by lunchtime! :D
Beautiful rice cracker assortment from Kyoto, in an equally beautiful hand lacquered wooden bento box. Not really an obento, but what the hey!
Yesterday, I made steamed pork buns. The bun flour is a store bought. Filling ingredients: ground pork, dried shrimp, green onion, minced garlic, soy souce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, salt and black pepper. It Took me 2 hours to make 24 buns. What can I say, my kids ask me to make their fav food....(-_^)
...and made a super quickie salad with it? :)
Super fast to put together-- 12mins (all leftovers) ...think I'm getting better at this stuff!
My son specifically asked for broccoli in his thermous today. Who was I to decline such a request?

Roasted chicken and "The Best Broccoli that You will Ever Eat!"
How I discovered this recipe is on today's hapa bento blog.
I love how this quilt came out. I should start making more mini quilts since they're so quick to make.
Partner - I made this for you because your mosaic showed a lot of orange, blues and greens. You seemed to love straight lines and simple patterns. I REALLY hope you like this because I love how it came out. If you don't want it, I'll keep it. ;)

Very basic recipe
To cook the vermicelli, just stick it in some boiling water for about 5mins...or just take a strand and see if it's soft enough for your liking.
Add some oil, sesame see oil, spinach and fish balls to a pan (all this stuff was frozen), along with some teriyaki sauce and mirin. Just toss it around till it defrosts, and mix it into the vermicelli.
Stick in a sauce bottle of soy sauce to pour over the noodles prior to eating (not pictured) :)
