Top tier: Steamed broccolini and baby carrots, kumquats, Babybel, chocolate-covered almonds.
Bottom tier: Hand-shaped onigiri made with Trader Joe's microwavable Jasmine Rice, nori faces, Trader Joe's Tuna in Green Curry Sauce.
I guess my free-style onigiri look okay, but I'll be glad when my molds come in!
Notes galore! This bento is made mostly from leftovers and 'stash' (johbisai; pre-made bento components). The only things I made fresh were the tamagoyaki (but the hijiki I mixed in is from a frozen stash) and the kinpira (I made enough of this for tomorrow too).
Ham negimayaki recipe, hijiki recipe, 1 egg tamagoyaki recipe, forgotten vegetable kinpira; also about zakkokumai and how to cook renkon (lotus root).
About 520 calories in this one.
(Sorry about the washed out image, but it was really sunny today for a change!)
I attempted to cut the Batman icon out of tofu. The result was only so-so...

Thank you MAHOUTAKE! I loves my spork!
Also, I made some chickpea pancakes, for the first time!!!
Read about it on today's blog post.
After getting through about 1/3 of the Farmer's Wife Sampler blocks, I decided that I needed a break from that project, and that whatever I worked on next needed to be simpler, faster piecing.
This was my answer to that. With the exception of perhaps three fabrics, everything for this quilt was purchased at Joann's Fabrics. I used up nearly all of my purple and aqua stash.
I was in a tremendous rush to get out of the house this morning, so nothing fancy here.

I wrapped the brownie up in lots of saran wrap in hopes that he'll need the teacher's help to open it. If he does, I'm pretty sure she'll make him eat some of the other stuff before she'll give it to him.
