In near box: Japanese Scotch Egg, cucumber slices with sea salt

Middle box: 2 onigiri with umeboshi, carrot and celeriac salad

Far box: Banana, mini cupcakes.

Rather a high calorie bento but was very good.

Finally have time to make my Halloween Bento. I figured, better late than never. :) Last week was too fun with all the Halloween festivities~!

The brim of Rilakkuma's hat was probably the most difficult thing I've ever done for charaben. Mayo works magic. :) I also discovered that using saran-wrap instead of my bare hands to shape the onigiri is much easier and cleaner! I will be using that method from now on.

Happy Halloween!! Rilakkuma is a witch, and Kiiroitori is a bat. :] Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween Flickr friends~!

Wednesday for lunch I had a Tempura Bentobox at Yochi Sushi Japanese Restaurant in Saanich.

Another speed bento made with previously frozen yaki onigiri (defrosted in the microwave for good texture). The ma po tofu, octopus, kabocha and juice jello cup were all leftovers, so this lunch took about 5 minutes to assemble this morning.

This week we revisited Shizen Japanese Restaurant on Government St. to see if its food was as good as we remembered it. It is.

L to R: Onigiri stuffed with umeboshi and fresh chopped lemongrass and decorated with romaine swishies and carrot wispies, lemongrass wedges (at top of onigiri), cherry tomatoes, edamame, roasted corn, baby carrots, all sitting on a bed of romaine lettuce.

I love to make piggy bento.Because it's easy to make!!!

my collection in my bento box from Molly! This is almost all of them...I ran out of space. The rest consists of 3 manju and my one wanroom dog fridge.

I saw these foods in the basement of Mitsukoshi department store, the depachika.

Depachika are expansive, dazzling food halls that lurk beneath each of Tokyo's major department stores, where vendors sell everything from bento boxes for lunch to formal gifts like green tea or nori packaged in fancy tins to everyday groceries.
