A vegan bento! Root vegetables, fried tofu (atsuage) and konnyaku stewed in a miso sauce (will post recipe soon), blanched spinach, a couple of snow peas for decoration. A tiny onigiri in the background that I ended up not eating. Total about 350 calories + the clementine (about 50 cal).
Yay my first Bento! I picked up the set a couple of weeks ago, but hadn't had an opportunity to put it to good use until today :3 It was fun to make!
Wyatt went to child watch at the gym with his dad tonight, so I packed him a dinner to eat there as a treat.

We had home made pizza for dinner on Monday night, so I took a bit of the extra dough and made some mini-pizzas for W's lunch today.

Quickly thrown together dinner bento for work last night. Top tier has some nutrigrain bar, salad with some blue cheese dressing in elephant container and tangerine pieces. In the bottom tier there's steamed salmon and seafood stuffing on top of rice pilaf. (leftovers)
Today's bento box contains nimono, simmered vegetables. Also included is boiled egg and black fungus, also simmered. Cukes, brown rice and umeboshi are there in the background.
I've received many compliments in the past on this style bento box, and inquiries to where I bought it. This particular box was purchased from Ichiban kan, before they closed their onlne store.
The good news is that I found another one, exactly the same, new and still wrapped in plastic, which I will gladly give away, along with other bento goodies in a contest.
The details are posted on hapabento's blog.
Photo captured especially for Myls' and her beautiful bento boxes. Scion with "BENTO BX" California plates spotted at the parking lot in Gilroy during the Annual Garlic Festival. Although I'm not a big fan of the Scion xB, I thought this one was particularly cute. : D
This features tasty yet fiber-packed fritters made with dried daikon radish (kiriboshi daikon) and gram (chickpea) flour. Recipe and how-to here.
Bento stuff at Tokyu Hands in Shibuya, Tokyo. These are expensive and traditional lacquered wood and untreated Japanese cedar bent wood (magawappa) boxes.
Have you ever ended up with an entire line of fabric that you never intended to buy? It all started when I bought a small and very inexpensive bundle of Soiree scraps at my LQS. Once I brought them home I decided that I would need a little more of the line in order to make anything from it. Well, a few online purchases later I somehow ended up with the entire line! Not even knowing what I wanted to do with this fabric I deciding to try my own version of the Bento Box pattern. Here are my first four squares all ready to cut into quarters.
I personally didn't agree with the not-very-pleasing brown chocolate sprinkles instead of the colorful ones, but the lil' guy insisted >.>
Huh. This is almost the exact same lunch I sent on Tuesday. The berries are frozen in this one though.

I went with a bit of a nautical theme for today's bento lunch, using turtle and dolphin picks for the turkey and cutting a boat shape out of the bun.

The fish is salmon teriyaki this time. It was especially good, too, very tender and not dry. The macaroni was so-so, but the noodles under the salmon were very tasty.
