I've been gone for awhile but I'm hoping to return to bento making again in 2015. Happy New Year - where we feel like all things are possible.
Top: Low-fat cottage cheese, bing cherries, raspberries, black berries, sliced apricot, mint leaf and sweetpea flower.
Bottom: Mr Crabby! Thinly sliced cucumbers, red bell pepper strips and rounds, lime slices and dolmas.
I was sick this morning, so Zach packed Wyatt's bento. I coached a little, but I think he did pretty well for a first timer!

Hinamatsuri is the festival for young girls to cerebrate their brilliant future,to become graceful, elegant and beautiful women on 3rd March.
We decorate the Emperor family and their servants with beautiful decorated crafts for royal palace before Hinamaturi, and then in front of these dolls,we have ' Hinamatsuri party ' with sushi and sweets for girls.
This sweets made by ' Tsuruya Yoshinobu ' with a beautiful wrapping of the Emperor an d the Empress for ' Hinamatsuri '.
To prevent the fish sticks from getting too soggy I heated them the night before, refrigerated them, and briefly fried them in the morning. SUCCESS! :D
I should've done the same thing to the lychees-- their flavour mixed in with the barley from being the the fridge together the night before. :S
Top tier: Steamed broccolini and baby carrots, kumquats, Babybel, chocolate-covered almonds.
Bottom tier: Hand-shaped onigiri made with Trader Joe's microwavable Jasmine Rice, nori faces, Trader Joe's Tuna in Green Curry Sauce.
I guess my free-style onigiri look okay, but I'll be glad when my molds come in!
Notes galore! This bento is made mostly from leftovers and 'stash' (johbisai; pre-made bento components). The only things I made fresh were the tamagoyaki (but the hijiki I mixed in is from a frozen stash) and the kinpira (I made enough of this for tomorrow too).
Ham negimayaki recipe, hijiki recipe, 1 egg tamagoyaki recipe, forgotten vegetable kinpira; also about zakkokumai and how to cook renkon (lotus root).
About 520 calories in this one.
(Sorry about the washed out image, but it was really sunny today for a change!)
I attempted to cut the Batman icon out of tofu. The result was only so-so...
