My preschooler styled this photo today. He chose all the foods that went into his lunch. He also picked out the papers to use for the background and arranged the box on the paper.

I went to Family Market a bit on the late side. There was only one bento box left, this one. I think I was very lucky.
This has eel and soba. The large container is sauce for the soba. There's vegetable tempura and brown rice inari sushi.

Matsuri specializes in bento boxes from the different prefectures of Japan. There are at least 100 different bento boxes offered.
Bento boxes and train rides is a national pasttime in Japan.

This bento was a made "on the fly". I started in one direction then switched up. The rice was suppose to be just plain sushi rice, with nice toppings in a true chirashi-zushi style but had to modify as I discovered that I was missing some key toppings. So I mixed in some peas and canned tuna into the sushi rice topped with chopped tamagoyaki and beni shoga...Voila!
Fabrics purchased at Fabric Corner in Arlington, MA. It was half off so I picked out a bunch of colors, but didn't know what to do with them. I sewed a couple of blocks and really loved the contrast of bento box. The border fabric was purchased at Jo-Anns (I think it was quilter's cotton). Photographed on my mom's lawn in Maine
