For our first full day in the Dolomites, we went all in. I know you're supposed to take it easy on day one, but I couldn't resist chasing the legendary view from Seceda — and it didn't disappoint.
We started at the Col Raiser cable car (2,100 m) and followed Trail #4, a 9.7 km loop with an elevation gain of just under 500 m. After about 90 minutes of hiking through open alpine meadows, we reached the Seceda ridgeline (2,500 m), where the Dolomites unfold like a natural amphitheater. You see the Sella Group, Sassolungo, Catinaccio, and of course, the iconic Odle peaks — sharp and dramatic against the sky.
Back home, while curating my photos, I decided to take a different approach and convert this one to black and white. Some trusted photographer friends encouraged me to push the contrast, like using an orange filter on film. I experimented a bit, and I must admit: I like how this version turned out.
It feels less like a postcard and more like a personal impression: a mood, a moment, a memory.
Il lago di Champex si trova a 1.466 m di altezza presso la stazione turistica di Champex, in Vallese, sulle pendici della porzione svizzera della catena del Monte Bianco.
One of the most iconic north faces in the Alps, the Eiger North Face and the Mittellegigrat leading up to the peak, seen from North East. Left of the Eiger (3970m) is Mönch (4107m), right the Jungfrau (4158m). Left behind the peak of the Mönch, the peak of Trugberg (3933m) is visible.

Rottalhorn (3971m), Jungfrau (4158m), Wengen-Jungfrau (4088m), Mathildespitze (3554m). Jungfraujoch, Berner Oberland, Switzerland.
A picture from last year when the weather was very warm as can be seen from the avalanches on the Jungfrau flank. Last summer there was still quite a bit of snow on the Jungfrau peaks and the Jungfraufirn, whereas this year, it has been so dry and hot that almost no snow is left and the routes to the Jungfrau peak are not safe for mountaineers anymore.
View upwards from Eggschi reservoir to Underhorn (2556m) and Oberhorn (2796m) in Tenna, Safien Valley, Switzerland.
Bietschhorn (3934m) with the Öugschtchummuhorn (2924m) in the bottom right corner.
During the whole week I was there, the mountains played hide and seek with me, mostly hiding behind thick snow laden clouds. I was quite lucky to get one of these rare moments of alpine enlightenment.
View from Höch Gumme (2205m) to Wellhorn (3191m), Wetterhorn (3690m), Schreckhorn (4078m), and Lauteraarhorn (4048m) with Scheidegg and Tüfengrat in the foreground.
Lungern (Obwalden), Switzerland.
View through the trees to the Balfrin (3796m) in the Mischabel Massif. Törbel, Valais. The tracks in the snow imply that some deer have enjoyed the view too…
Val Trupchun (Trupchun valley) is one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the Swiss National Park. The valley entrance is in S-chanf, Engadin, Grisons, Switzerland.

Bifertenstock (3419m) and Piz d'Artgas (2787m). Not spectacularly high or very famous, but fascinating nonetheless.

Awesome is an over used word but in the case of the Aiguille du Midi it is entirely appropriate.
One of the most amazing experiences of anyone's lifetime is to ride up the Aiguille du Midi cablecar. It lifts you over 9,000 vertical feet in under 20 minutes. It is without doubt the most thrilling cable car ride on earth. For some, like me, the ride can be frightening. Almost all will feel light-headed once arriving at the top (due to lower atmospheric oxygen levels at 3850m).
The views are simply stunning. In this view we can see Mont Blanc upper left and 2 mountain climbers (centre right & lower left) give us some idea of the massive scale of things up here.
The Vega de Liordes, a glacial valley in the Central Massif of the Picos de Europa, in Cantabria, Spain, is located at an altitude of approximately 1900 meters. This emblematic mountain meadow, with flat bottoms and surrounded by limestone escarpments, is crossed by the trail that connects the refuge of Collado Jermoso to Fuente Dé, a classic mountain route. The geological formation, the result of Quaternary glacial erosion in a karst relief, creates a striking contrast between the vega plain and the surrounding escarpments. Serving as an altitude pasture in summer, the Vega de Liordes has herbaceous vegetation adapted to alpine conditions and rocky outcrops. It is also a reference point for hikers and mountaineers and is known for recording extremely low temperatures in winter, among the lowest in Spain.

The last of the clouds were clearing from Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Tongariro on the left. By clearing meaning that you could see them...it was still blowing a force 10 gale tho. Alpine environments are to be respected as the weather here can change in a flash leaving you exposed if you are not prepared. Must be a boy scout motto there somewhere...
This is the first time I have taken this train in winter, for a hike in the Morteratsch valley up from the railway station to the glacier at the foot of Piz Bernina.
I didn't set out with the idea of taking some videos with my smartphone, on the train, but then in front of this high-altitude scenery I had to do it. The result is enough to make me want to go back.
The photos are better and I will post them soon.
Happy Easter to all.
Buona Pasqua a tutti.

Swiss Alps, shot made from Mountain Lodge Faulhorn (2681m) around two hours before sunset. Amazing view, highly recommended to visit and stay there over night!
The cog railway overcomes a difference in altitude of 1217.27 meters. Besides the Bavarian Zugspitze Railway, the Drachenfelsbahn and the rack railway Stuttgart Wendelsteinbahn is one of only four operated rack railways in Germany. She is a listed monument. In the background you can see the foothills of the Alps with lake Simssee and parts of lake Chiemsee. Please zoom in for more details...or watch the second image
