Bargis valley, enclosed by Piz da Sterls/Tristelhorn (3114m), Glaserhorn (3128m) and Piz Barghis/Ringelspitz (3247m) on the left side, and the Fild de Cassons (2695m) on the right side.

What you can see in the picture is actually only the top third of the valley, the rest is hidden by the Fild de Cassons. To hike up the Bargis valley is amongst the most beautiful things you can do while in Flims…

The mighty Eiger (3970m), a mountain in Switzerland, famous for its northern face which was one of the last unclimbed faces in the Alpes. Looks really impressive as it towers above Grindelwald.

The reddish colouration of the ice was probably caused by sand and dust blown in from the Sahara desert. There are also cryophilic algae (Chlamydomonas nivalis) that can tinge glaciers with a reddish hue. So, who said that glaciers had to be white and blue anyway?

The dark clouds in the background not only threatened rain, they actually delivered soon after I took this shot. For about an hour, it was a very wet hike on the glacier…

This is the access to the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing which mostly have travelled usually just after midnight to get the usual early starts for sunrise somewhere upon the track. Can't remember travelling this in daylight before.

So its a classic travel shot leading the eye up to Ngauruhoe and Tongariro with their tops covered in cloud as is often the case.

There was a patch of what looked like dust on the snow at the middle left on the peaks. You can see it looks dirty. Am supposing that it was just wind blown dust and dirt...?

The region of Davos, Klosters and Parsenn (located in the Canton of Graubünden/Grisons, Switzerland) is very popular for hiking. However, even more people like the area for skiing in the winter season.

Hiking from Strela-Pass up to Weissfluhjoch (2,693 m).

The well developed trail is an invitation for mountain bikers to enjoy a fast downhill ride. This is somewhat stressy and annoying for the hikers on the trail, particularly in the high season.

One of my favorite and less traveled parts of the park. Stunning alpine viewpoints here. Too lazy to get my DSLR out of pack so this was shot with an iPhone.

From afar, the Southern Alps stretch like a majestic spine across the horizon—snow-dusted, rugged, and awe-inspiring. Their distant silhouette rises above the rolling hills and open plains, forming a powerful contrast between serenity and grandeur. A landscape where the scale of nature quietly humbles you, and every view feels like a living postcard from New Zealand’s South Island.
