The Aletsch Glacier or Great Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km,] has about a volume of 15.4 km3, and covers about 81.7 km2 in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. The Aletsch Glacier is composed of four smaller glaciers converging at Konkordiaplatz, where its thickness was measured by the ETH to be still near 1 km. It then continues towards the Rhône valley before giving birth to the Massa. The whole area, including other glaciers is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Protected Area, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.

The Jungfrau at 4,158 meters is one of the main summits of the Bernese Alps, located between the northern canton of Bern and the southern canton of Valais, halfway between Interlaken and Fiesch. Together with the Eiger and Mönch, the Jungfrau forms a massive wall of mountains overlooking the Bernese Oberland and the Swiss Plateau, one of the most distinctive sights of the Swiss Alps.

The Silberhorn 3,695 m is a pyramid-shaped mountain of the Bernese Alps, to the northwest of the Jungfrau of which it is a satellite peak.

Oeschinen Lake (Oeschinensee) is a lake in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, 4 kilometres east of Kandersteg in the Oeschinen valley. At an elevation of 1578 metres, it has a surface area of 1.1147 square kilometres. Its maximum depth is 56 metres. A gondola lift from Kandersteg leads to Oeschinen, 25 minutes by foot from the lake. Since 2007 the lake is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn UNESCO World Heritage Site. As of summer 2021, a circumnavigation of Lake Oeschinen is not possible. The reason for this is the danger of an imminent rockfall on the south shore, which is why paths are closed there.

The Breithorn (4,164 m) is a mountain range of the Pennine Alps with its highest peak of the same name (but also called Breithorn (Western Summit)), located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It lies on the main chain of the Alps, approximately halfway between the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa and east of the Theodul Pass. Most of the massif is glaciated and includes several subsidiary peaks, all located east of the main summit: the Central Breithorn, the western Breithorn Twin (or Eastern Breithorn), the Gendarm (or eastern Breithorn Twin) and the Roccia Nera. The main summit is sometimes distinguished by the name Western Breithorn.

The Breithorn is considered the most easily climbed 4,000 m Alpine peak. This is due to the Klein Matterhorn cable car which takes climbers to over 3,820 m from Zermatt for a starting point.

The Aletschhorn (4194 m) is a mountain in the Alps in Switzerland, lying within the Jungfrau-Aletsch region, which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The mountain shares part of its name with the Aletsch Glacier lying at its foot. It is the second highest mountain of the Bernese Alps after the Finsteraarhorn. Standing between the principal range of the Bernese Alps and the Pennine chain, it shares with the Bietschhorn the advantage of occupying a central position in relation to the high peaks around it. The Aletschhorn is often thought to command the finest of all the panoramic views from Alpine summits.

The Matterhorn is a mountain of the Alps, straddling the main watershed and border between Switzerland and Italy. It is a large, near-symmetric pyramidal peak in the extended Monte Rosa area of the Pennine Alps, whose summit is 4,478 metres high, making it one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe. The four steep faces, rising above the surrounding glaciers, face the four compass points and are split by the Hörnli, Furggen, Leone/Lion, and Zmutt ridges. The mountain overlooks the Swiss town of Zermatt, in the canton of Valais, to the north-east and the Italian town of Breuil-Cervinia in the Aosta Valley to the south.

Lyskamm (Liskamm, Lys, Silberbast) is a mountain (4,533m) in the Pennine Alps lying on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It consists of a five-kilometre-long ridge with two distinct peaks. The mountain has gained a reputation for seriousness because of the many cornices lying on the ridge and the frequent avalanches, thus leading to its nickname the Menschenfresser ("people eater"). Engaging return to this Alpine valley after seven months.

The last snowfall in April still left pleasant traces on the higher peaks and north-facing slopes.

All the meadows are richly coloured with flowers and are a joy to behold.

Finally on the road again, this time on the trail of the Tour of Mont Blanc.

Day started with lots of clouds, then a tense, cold wind coming down from France cleaned the sky a bit.

The shoulder of the Miage Glacier moraine behind the Cabane du Combal was impressive.

Finalmente ancora montagne !

The faded rucksacks of this pair of hikers tell of many beautiful adventures they had together, on their way to some refuge in the high valley.

A side valley of Valpelline, which opens towards the east after about 90 minutes of walking from the Prarayer refuge.

You can glimpse fom the path, a building to house shepherds (at 2170 mt); already from here the valley seen from below appears beautiful and wild.

The "Pyramides Calcaires" mark the horizon at the end of the Combal plan, once taken up by a lake.

At the right margin one can still see a fair thickness of glacier coming down from the Aiguille des Glaciers.

The border between Italy and France crosses above there.

I used a fast shutter speed, to prevent

the tense wind from moving me during the shot.

The granites of this part of the Mont Blanc massif also dominate the Ferret Valley, leaving the hiker photographer enthralled.
