Thank you for your kind visit! Enjoy a lovely week!

From the Alpine Ridge Trail, looking toward the southwest. The dirt road on the left is Old Fall River Road. The paved road on our right is Trail Ridge Road.

Alpine Accentor is a relative of the Dunnock, but usually only occurs at altitude (above 2000m). It is found throughout the high mountains of Europe and Asia though I have never found it to be particularly common. It breeds in bare, mountainous areas but descends to lower altitudes in winter. Very occasionally they wander further and have turned up in Britain on rare occasions. I photographed this one above 3000m on Balang Mountain in Sichuan, China. It differs from Dunnock in being larger, with orange flanks and a white-bordered black patch in the wing. It also has some yellow in the bill which differentiates it from Dunnock. I usually prefer my subjects to be better isolated but this one shows it blending into its rocky alpine habitat. It was bitter cold too when I took the photo. You can see frost on the vegetation and a bit of snow in the foreground.

Back in April 1987 I went on a bus hunting adventure which included a visit to the Alpine depot in Llanrwst where I photographed Ford R1114 / Duple Dominant C53F JAW964N. This coach was new to Vagg's of Knockin Heath in 1975. It is seen here just prior to sale to Chester City Air Training Corps.

Another from Medano Lake, up in the Sangre De Cristo mountain range in Colorado. This was after our fun hike up through all the snow and despite gusty and sometimes gale-forced winds, this home made fire and fire pit was probably the best thing ever. As was the dehydrated chicken stew with turkey saussages we threw in.
