I am inspired by the mountains and the joy they bring to life. There is this beautiful parallel between mountains and life in general. Mountains aren’t just beautiful. They are a struggle, challenge, and sometimes disappointment as well. Life is a series of achievements, disappointments, struggle, and joy.

“Mountains seem to answer an increasing imaginative need in the West. More and more people are discovering a desire for them, and a powerful solace in them. At bottom, mountains, like all wildernesses, challenge our complacent conviction - so easy to lapse into - that the world has been made for humans by humans. Most of us exist for most of the time in worlds which are humanly arranged, themed and controlled." - Robert MacFarlane

Second shot in the series. I moved in closer to frame...mostly...the stones leading into the lake. This was first thing in the morning, thus the deep shadows. The reflection was fantastic this time of day and so a tricky shot.

The decision not to crop this down was a difficult one. I'd like to but I think I need to keep the stones in the centre of the shot, and some of the tree line to maintain context.

Spring in the Colorado Rockies near Crested Butte. Took a short respite after returning from traveling recently, which then got extended with Covid. I've recovered and back in the saddle! Thought I'd post something from one of my favorite places.

The Alpine ibex (Capra ibex), also known as the steinbock, bouquetin, or simply ibex, is a species of wild goat that lives in the mountains of the European Alps. It is a sexually dimorphic species: males are larger and carry longer, curved horns than females. Its coat colour is typically brownish grey. Alpine ibex tend to live in steep, rough terrain near the snow line. They are also social, although adult males and females segregate for most of the year, coming together only to mate. Four distinct groups exist; adult male groups, female-offspring groups, groups of young individuals, and mixed-sex groups.

Walchensee or Lake Walchen is one of the deepest and largest alpine lakes in Germany. The lake is 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of Munich in the middle of the Bavarian Alps.

Three of a kind...

The alpine marmot (Marmota marmota) is a large ground-dwelling squirrel, from the genus of marmots. It is found in high numbers in mountainous areas of central and southern Europe, at heights between 800 and 3,200 m (2,600–10,500 ft) in the Alps, Carpathians, Tatras and Northern Apennines. In 1948 they were reintroduced with success in the Pyrenees, where the alpine marmot had disappeared at end of the Pleistocene epoch. (Wikipedia) These ones have found a home in the wildpark of Han-sur-Lesse, Belgium.

When I stopped admiring the source of the Rhine and looked behind me, I saw these protected Alpine beauties, the large (5 - 20cm) Alpine asters! Not just one, but a whole bunch. I had to climb higher on a steep slope, but I absolutely wanted a good shot of them.

I "only" got 2 error messages today while trying to post comments, sorry if my comments are brief, there's still a chance of them not going through because of flickr's problems.

It is always beautiful to watch the sunset at the mountains...

I have stitched 4 high resolution images for this panorama.
