These are a few photos taken during a solo hiking trip along the Dorothy Lake Trail in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness September 19th through 21st, 2007. I only took pictures the last two days.

Due to light, I managed just a few decent shots. Some of these pictures are not here for art, but to explain the trail to other people.

Trail information can be found here.

The cool wet spring and early summer means good alpine flowers later than usual, and the meadows behind Scout Mtn were especially good.

My wife and I got our "duffs up the bluff" in La Crosse, and on the way down we stopped for a burger and beer at the Alpine Inn. We were on our way back from a wedding in Madison, and decided to take a short spin around LaCrosse. Going down Main St., we could see a huge bluff straight ahead, so we just kept going.

I took some pictures, but it's gonna be a while before I get to them.

Alpine Lakes Loop (2.7 miles r/t):

This nice loop links two sub-alpine lakes, Teresa Lake and Stella Lake. Due to the altitude these are fairly close to the treeline, which has the nice effect of making the greenery near the lakes stand out against the bare alpine backdrop. Teresa Lake has good views of Wheeler Peak, while Stella Lake has a gorgeous flower lined, meandering stream feeding it. Both are great places to relax under a tree by the water, which is appreciated at 10,000 feet. This trail is easily combined with the Bristlecone trail, and shaves a good mile off of the combined distance.
