The full colours of alpine autumn were on display for a brief magical moment of about one week in mid-October in the coastal mountains of British Columbia. It coincided with the first autumn dusting of fresh snow over the mountain peaks surrounding the lake. This cropped segment narrows in on the late-afternoon deciduous colours and reflections off the pristine glacial waters of Alta Lake (642 m, 2106 ft), Whistler, British Columbia.

One of the recent influx into the UK with numbers reaching to around 100 sightings, which is huge here. This was one of a pair displaying all day long over Cromer Golf Club but I was also lucky to see a low level display of another pair nearby in Sheringham (two pairs sighted simultaneously so not same pair) the day before. They are so so fast as they swoop down. Most of my images were taken with the R5 for extra ‘reach’ but I also took many with the R3, both using an RF 600mm f4 and no converter. 840mm would have made them very difficult to pick out. There is no doubt that the R3 locked and tracked them much better than the R5, though as you can see, that was pretty capable too.

Taking our guests for an alpine lunch with a view, somewhere in the Skeena mountains.
This is the sun just setting on top of the mountains. Just a small view of the Majestic view that surrounds you from Clingmans Dome, where you are treated to a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Mounatins and Valley all around you.
Hope you aren't getting tired of my Smoky Mountain Trip, but my camera is in the repair shop being cleaned right now, so bear with me the next few weeks. :-(
