As I climb higher up the slopes of Glas Tulaichean, the wonderful weather that started that day has closed in around me, with the clouds descending and shrouding the surrounding mountain tops. Glen Lochsie that I followed earlier lies below me, but climbing lies ahead!
Glas Tulaichean is my 5th Munro of the season and the 28th in total, bringing me to a Munro completion rate of near enough 10%. The mountain stands at 1051 meters (3448 feet) and is the last one I will do as I have now moved away from Scotland and back to my roots in South Yorkshire as the pull of the Grandchildren was just too strong.
As we move away from those summer days in Australia, we're still experiencing a lovely Indian Summer in Melbourne with very warm Autumn days.
As I don't have a camera at the moment 'somefame' has gone to the dark ages, hopefully it will be up and running soon... peace
As Cal was walking behind the Aston Martin DB9, he couldn't help but glance at the sunset catching the classic lines of the old DB5 parked alongside. He briefly got so excited, he even reached for the gun which has made a sudden appearance in his holster! Clearly he watches too many movies!

Not quite a forced perspective, but let's just call it model photography, featuring the 1/18th scale die-cast Aston Martin DB9, and the wonderful Aston Martin DB5, and of course, Cal - my new model employee! Background is a sunset from Big Hill in Stawell, Victoria.
This is technically a single shot, and no photoshop was used or harmed in the production of this image or to insert the background (apart from minor tweaks to overall brightness)!
My Labor Day hike at Graham Creek yesterday turned especially awesome as I spotted the first White Peacock butterfly I'd seen since 2015! It was only the third one ever, having seen my first back in 2013!
I briefly saw it as I began my hike to the sprawling field of Blazing Star wildflowers near the bog, but it fluttered away and I couldn't reconnect with it...I was thrilled to catch a glimpse, but bummed out at the thought of not getting a shot!
Several hours later, on the trail out, it reappeared and did circles around me for quite awhile, landing to puddle near me several times! I'm proud to add its beauty to my stream again after six years!
As we descend further from the summit of the Cairn Gorm mountain, the slopes open up to give us a fantastic view of the blue water of Loch Morlich far below us. Beyond the loch, through the forests, the highland town of Aviemore can be made out, which we'll have to drive back through to get home.
Cairn Gorm, the mountain from which the Cairngorm mountain range gets its name, stands at 1245 meters (4085 feet) and is my 4th Munro of the season, my 27th in total. The hike (no bike this time) sees me covering a circuit of just over 7 miles and making an elevation gain of around 762 meters (2500 feet).

Death camas, Zygadenus venenosus, synthesizes an alkaloid that is poisonous to livestock, particularly sheep. Humans consuming the bulbs of death camas have died as well.
The alkaloid that protects the plant is also in its nectar, so this plant is poisonous to bees, but not all pollinators.
Another plant in the same genus, Zygadenus elegans, has the same name, death camas, for the same reason. Z. elegans is typically high in the mountains, while Z. venenosus is often associated with sagebrush.
I found a population of Z. venenosus at the ecotone between the Great Plains and the foothills of the Front Range.
Death camas and sego or mariposa lily and wild onion are all in the lily family, and the bulbs of mariposa lilies and wild onions are edible, while the very similar bulbs of death camas are deadly poisonous. Mistakes have been made.

As I mentioned before, there is an Alfa 6 in my new home town. I had seen it parked in a driveway in a different area, but now it seems to be stored next to the Alfa collection (+Bonito) of which I have uploaded photos a while ago.
As extraordinary shots go, this one is probably my luckiest yet. This is a black-winged stilt - in flight - as it skimmed across the water in front of me... Blimey! Did that really happen?
As the clouds roll in over Valemount, the CN signals outside of town stand tall and still awaiting the next passing freight. An anomaly on the west coast, CN's signals in the mountain region range from 20 to 30ft tall allowing train crews to see them from farther distances.
As much as I love those water-level shots, he was moving too fast for me and I had to hurry to try and stay in front of him. So, from the standing position, shows more detail in the shimmering water, where the water level shot would be just a sliver of focus on the duck.That's my take on it. 😉
As you can see from the tower clock of the Landungsbrücken in the background, it is already shortly before half past eight in the morning and I am just on the way back to my quarters after a three-hour tour.
Unfortunately, my original plan to photograph the sunrise couldn't be realized. The Hamburg weather probably had something against it.
Nevertheless, in addition to ice-cold feet and fingers, I have a few nice photos in my luggage.
Wie Ihr an der Turmuhr der Landungsbrücken im Hintergrund sehen könnt, ist es bereits kurz vor halb neun am Morgen und ich bin gerade, nach einer dreistündigen Tour, auf dem Rückweg zu meinem Quartier.
Mein ursprünglicher Plan, den Sonnenaufgang zu fotografieren, lies sich leider nicht realisieren. Da hatte das hamburger Wetter wohl etwas dagegen.
Trotzdem habe ich, neben eiskalten Füßen und Fingern, ein paar schöne Fotos im Gepäck.

As water drains down this steep hill into the Atlantic, it moves small stones so they click, as a kind of music.
As I review all of the photos I took on our last road trip, I am amazed at what a beautiful country we live in. This is another shot of the Grand Canyon. I hope to visit it again just to see what a wonderous place this is.

Finding abstractions underneath your feet as you walk over London's pavements and roads.
As usual, Bart interrupted my flower photography in the kitchen tonight. He misses me when I'm gone for much of the day, and needs his attention. I took my camera off the tripod, put the flash on, and switched the camera to my animal settings, then snapped a few photos. My 105mm macro lens is also good for portraits. Behind him is my new sequined backdrop, with rainbow stripes, also seen as bokeh in the rose photo that precedes this one.
As I saw this event unfolding in my viewfinder, I thought Gladys is thinking, "you better eat that, because your not wiping it on me". Well she did.

As I was taking some pics of the Wren on the bush, some people plus dog just walked between me and the bird, even though it was obvious that I was photographing something. Their movement spooked the bird, and I got this shot - although I didn't realise it until I examined the pictures later.
Not the sharpest picture ever, but better than nothing.
As I composed here I noticed a raven pair fly over head then roost left center, under side of the arch. Stone underside must be more irregular than it appears and affords a safe roost for the night...

It is commonly known as fountainbush, firecracker plant, coral plant, coral fountain, coralblow and fountain plant, is a weeping subshrub in the Plantaginaceae family.
The plant is native to Mexico and Guatemala. Most common color is coral, red, but also rarely we find in the color white, very beautiful. It is said to have also one yellow. But I have never seen it.
The name Russelia honors the Scottish naturalist Alexander Russell (1715-1768), given to the genus by the Dutch scientist Baron Nikolaus von Jacquin (1727-1817). The species name reference to this plants resemblance to horse tail rushes, and the Latin term equisetiformis means "like Equisetum".
Russelia equisetiformis (russelia): planta pendente, com ramos longos que despontam da primavera ao outono e podem ter coloração vermelha, amarela ou branca. No paisagismo, costuma ser empregada em renques ou maciços sobre pequenos morros e declives. Também é apropriada para vasos, floreiras e cestas suspensas. Deve ser cultivada sob sol pleno ou meia-sombra, em solo fértil, bem drenável, rico em húmus e irrigado regularmente. Não tolera estiagens prolongadas. A cor mais comum da russelia é a vermelha ou coral. Mas também existe a branca, muito mais difícil de encontrar e a amarela, raríssima. Quando misturadas ambas cores, é um lindo espetáculo da mãe natureza. As 3 juntas jamais vi.

As I climb higher up on to Ben Avon, I get a good view back down the Glen I ascended after leaving the bike to reach the lower slopes of the mountain. It looks so gentle and unassuming from this angle, but it certainly didn't feel so when climbing up it.
Climbing Ben Avon (pronounced Ben A'an) which stands at 1171 meters (3842 feet), and Beinn a'Bhuird (pronounced Ben a-voashed) standing at 1197 meters (3927 feet), sees me covering a distance of just over 24 miles. They are my 2nd & 3rd Munro's of the season, and bring me to a total of 26 now.
As noted by JJ Audubon: "The Black-poll Warbler is a gentle bird, by no means afraid of man, although it pursues some of its smaller enemies with considerable courage. The sight of a Canadian Jay excites it greatly, as that marauder often sucks its eggs, or swallows its young. In a few instances I have seen the Jay confounded by the temerity of its puny assailant.
The occurrence of this species so far north in the breeding season, and the curious diversity of its habits in different parts of the vast extent of country which it traverses, are to me quite surprising..". Birds of America.

One of many ongoing approaches, where I move through the world as a harvester of images stumbling, strolling, lurching, equal parts accidental, and intentional. I trace the contours of decay and growth, hope and entropy, searching for the quiet collisions where meaning might emerge. Each image is less a document than a provocation an invitation to reconsider what we 'see', and what we ignore; and why.
