As the sun sets on 2020 it's worth remembering that, despite all its troubles and sorrow, there has still been wonder and joy and people to cherish
Today we went to the Four Mile Beach north of Santa Cruz, California. It was a beautiful afternoon, no clouds. I took this long exposure shot in the blue hour 30 minutes after sunset using an ND8 neutral density filter on the vintage Dream Lens.
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and the curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

This was taken as I was coming out on the main highway west out of the dentist parking area... That is TV (Tualatin Valley) highway and SW 144th... Happy Telegraph Tuesday, Everybody!!
As I was changing locations along the shoreline at Mono Lake, the sky started to get some color in the clouds. The color never did get any better as the sun went down. I was able to set up the tripod and get a few pictures of this composition as the sun set. As you can see, I wasn't the only one enjoying the view. The photographer in the foreground gives you a scale to compare the height of the tufas.
As though the carved heads outside and the zigzag carving of the tower arch were not enough, each of the dozen or so columns supporting the arches in the nave have rich carving on their capitals. In astonishingly good condition, they're both varied and imaginative, mostly featuring creatures in a style I would describe as Celtic. These may be leopards, or some mythical beast, though I don't suppose there was much chance of a stonemason having seen a real leopard in the 12th century.
As a photographer, a common theme I like to find is minimal geometry and patterns in nature or man-made objects.
This photo represents geometrical patterns and shapes created by the architecture and reflection of the Prudential Plaza in Jacksonville, FL. I walk past this building so many times, but one day managed to stand underneath it, and discovered this magic.
The architect is KBJ Architects from Jacksonville, FL, a firm responsible for shaping the incoming Jacksonville skyline we have today.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts or comments on how I can improve this.

The wooden chariot has long since rotted away. The ongoing excavations of the mausoleum of the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, revels that it was laid out to resemble a palace complex. The Terracotta Army formed the garrison for the palace. The army was arranged in long trenches with wooden roofs covered in earth that rotted away and collapsed centuries ago. Every terracotta figure was broken into fragments that have been painstakingly reassembled and is still ongoing. As stated below many other types of figures have been found in other pits including palace animals such as birds and pets.
—from Wikipedia
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting him in his afterlife.
The figures, dating from approximately the late 200s BCE, were discovered in 1974 by local farmers in Lintong County, outside Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. The figures vary in height according to their rank, the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses. Estimates from 2007 were that the three pits containing the Terracotta Army hold more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which remain in situ in the pits near Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum. Other, non-military terracotta figures have since been found in other pits, including those of officials, acrobats, strongmen, and musicians.
As the sun sets over Glacier National Park, the DPU of an eastbound train comes through not a moment to soon, lit up by tihe stunnng western mountain golden hour. to the right is the Belton Chalet, the original hotel constructed by the Great Northern railroad in 1910. The Chalet still serves as the 'Gateway to Glacier', located directly across from the Amtrak stop serving West Glacier.
As rays of light, descend and shine
Invading the depths of natures wine
A lone tree rises from down below
Into the light of life's sweet glow
Reaching up, reaching high
Dreaming that one day it'll touch the sky
As rays of fate, descend and shine
Drinking the beauty of sweet natures wine

As time progressed and the surroundings clouded over, taking photos became a bit of a lottery. Luckily, there were enough interesting trains so that one could afford to bin a few photos. During a sunnier moment, RTB Cargo's 193 810 "Salzburg" passed by with a train full of new cars bound for Bremerhaven. Gemünden am Main, 10-10-2022.

As I drove through the town of Lusk, Wyoming, Philip and Mike spotted this gondola sitting on a stub track along the main. Living out it's last days in maintenance of way service, this Darby-built gon rolled out new from their Kansas City plant in 1966, and still sports a nice KATY logo on the side.

As the day comes of the first anniversary of my father's passing, I reflect. I know he's quietly watching us all with love, may he forever rest in peace.
As we had clear skies and aurora activity on most nights of the trip, it wasn't easy choosing one image. This photograph shows minor activity - but it occurs directly over Ostind mountain and the reflection on the water was a bonus.
I drove the short distance to Toppoy island as there seemed to be less artificial light pollution there. The moon was bright in the sky to the east but this served the scene well as it illuminated the mountains.
As I drove up here today I realised I was completely alone; the outside temperature was -1 degree C; there was thick fog and I was driving a rear-wheel drive automatic whose traction control light kept flashing, and I began to question my sanity. This is something I've often pondered. Sane or not? I think at the moment the ayes have it.
My car is just visible in the gloom.
As I was getting my gears ready to start shooting the building in this picture which is the top part part of the opera house in Oslo this man appears and disappears like a phantom so when I was contemplating what to call the photo it became self evident. It is a cliché I know but a nice one :) It´s odd sometimes. I have been thinking of shooting this building for a long time but only had the building in my mind. And my first photo which I think became the best one is just a part of the building with this man walking past it.
I wish you all a great weekend ahead and thank You for viewing, faving and commenting!
Glowing just after Sunset, and as a postscript the clouds brought much needed rain in the hours that followed.
I DO own the road.
Only a fool would challenge this massive and unpredictable beast. It doesn't pay to get in a hurry. He stood there for 10-15 minutes before moving on.
A young lady from Quebec is in the car ahead of us, she was fascinated, smiling and taking lots of photos. Glad she knew not to get out of her car.
As we've been in the solar minimum this winter, nice auroras have been a bit few and far between. However, tonight provided a nice aurora.
It's always a bit different to shoot the aurora with the moon fairly bright. It dims the aurora and keeps the sky from being black but it illuminates the ground. But I like it either way as long as the aurora comes out to play.
However, with me out in my under ware, slippers and a heavy coat. I didn't last too long in the -25F temps.
