17-september-2021: the transparency of the air enhances tones and contrasts and it is a rather frequent situation in late summer and autumn once the main cold front has passed.
The weather improves almost everywhere with the fresh and dry air following the front, but the sea still releases considerable heat, stored during the summer, and this creates contrast with the new colder air, generating showers and local thunderstorms from the Gulf of Trieste to Istria/Istra peninsula.
Thank you so much for the opportunity! I really really enjoyed taking photos at the Grove. Everything about this place is amazing. The environment and people! :)))

You can see the timber colonnade of the Alison Brooks designed Cohen Quad from the Walton Street entrance but what isn't so apparent there's a further section further back which replicates the form but is made of concrete.
I'm a self-confessed fan of good quality concrete so maybe I'm biased, but I think this is more beautiful as the simplicity of the form is emphasized.
From Alison Brook's website : "This project is a 21st century reinvention of the ‘collegiate quadrangle’, the basis of Oxford’s academic and urban fabric. The Oxford quadrangle is an 800 year old pedagogical model that combines student rooms with teaching spaces, organised around landscaped courtyards. Every Oxford college is a variation of this typology. Alison Brooks Architects’ new 6000m² Cohen Quad will expand Exeter College’s 700 year old campus in the heart of Oxford, with undergraduate and graduate living accommodation for 90 students, an auditorium, seminar rooms, social learning spaces, archive, café, roof terraces, offices and fellows’ accommodation."

Ponce de Leon claimed Florida for Spain in 1513. (Christopher Columbus discovered North America in 1492 but actually landed in the Bahamas). Other Spanish explorers later found gold and silver in Mexico and Peru. The treasure was sent back to Spain in ships sailing in the Gulf Stream. Spanish settlements needed to be built in Florida to protect the Spanish Treasure fleets. King Phillip II of Spain sent Pedro Menendez to settle in Florida and drive out French garrisons recently established there. In September 1565, Pedro Menendez with 700 soldiers and colonists landed 'here' and founded St. Augustine making it the oldest continually occupied European settlement in North America ~ Saint Augustine Inlet

Charlestown harbour a few miles southwest of St Austell is an unspoilt 18th/19th century port well-known from its starring role in the 2015 Poldark series. Opened in the 1790s to ship copper ore from nearby mines it became an important China clay shipment point. The last China clay load was carried as late as 2000.
Today the port is a popular tourist and filming destination and at the time of our visit a German tv company was recording scenes (and disrupting traffic) by the harbour.
Op vrijdag 22 oktober 2021 stond er een prachtig klusje voor Railexperts op het programma. Vanuit Kijfhoek werd met de 9902 en de van HSL gehuurde 272 201 (1324) losse loc naar Rotterdam Noord Goederen gereden, om daar de 65 018 (VSM) en 41 105 (SSN, sinds 1991 niet meer op de hoofdbaan geweest!) op te halen en naar Alstom Maintanance (het voormalige Shunter) op de Waalhaven-Zuid te brengen.
Met de G2000 op kop, vanwege ETCS op de havenlijn, werd met een snelheid van 30 km/h vertrokken vanuit Rotterdam Noord Goederen naar de eerste stop: Rotterdam Centraal.
Hier vond onder begeleiding van ondergetekende een controle aan de stoomlocomotieven plaats door het personeel van de SSN.
Aangezien we een half uur de tijd hadden was er na de controle nog tijd genoeg om een plaatje te schieten van het bijzondere transport. Na vertrek werd op IJsselmonde nogmaals de controle uitgevoerd, waarna de locomotieven netjes bij Alstom werden afgeleverd voor een bezoekje aan de kuilwielenbank.
Voor de 41 105 is dit de eerste grote stap naar een volledige revisie; de 65 018 zal weldra weer terug gaan naar de VSM.
