The Urban Fox
Wild foxes have learned to adapt to the urban environment in order to survive. By nature, foxes are nocturnal and hunt at night, whereas the urban fox has adapted its behavior to survive and can be seen during daylight hours.
Locally, a fox vixen has located her den in the foundational remains of a razed building complex along the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore. She has six Kits, which can be seen frolicking in the debris and along the dunes during the day. The fox family has become local celebrities and unfortunately people have begun feeding them. Never feed wild animals. Although you may feel as if you’re helping them survive, you are actually harming them. Feeding foxes can alter their natural behavior and they may lose its fear of humans.
“Wildlife that is fed by people become less experienced at forging for their natural food and may become dependent on handouts that are not a part of their natural diets. This is especially true in juvenile animals that have not yet developed their own foraging skills and have little ability to fend for themselves once handouts cease.” ~ Julie King, Senior Wildlife Biologist

Red Fox
The Red Fox, Vulpes vulpes, is the largest of the true foxes and the most abundant wild member of the Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere from the Arctic Circle to North Africa, North America and Eurasia. It is listed as least concern by the IUCN. Its range has increased alongside human expansion, having been introduced to Australia, where it is considered harmful to native mammals and bird populations. Due to its presence in Australia, it is included among the list of the "world's 100 worst invasive species".

Leigh-on-Sea is a town in Essex, England. It is situated on the northern side of the Thames Estuary, only a few miles from the open waters of the North Sea to the east, and a similar distance from the Kent coast to the south. At low tide Leigh's foreshore has a wide expanse of mud flats and creeks, extending offshore towards the deep water channel of the Thames (Yantlet Channel). Archaeological finds of pottery and coins from Romano-British era in the locality suggest early settlement. The riverside settlement of 'Old Leigh', or 'The Old Town', is historically significant; it was once on the primary shipping route to London. From the Middle Ages until the turn of the 20th century, Old Leigh hosted the settlement's market square, and high street (known as Leigh Strand). Leigh had grown to become a prosperous port by the 16th century; ships as large as 340 tons were built here for fishing and other purposes.The main seafood catch from Leigh fishing boats has always been shellfish and whitebait. Two of Old Leigh's pubs – the Peter Boat and Ye Olde Smack – owe their names to types of local fishing boat. Local fish merchants land, process and trade a wide range of supplies daily, including shrimps, lobster, crab, seabass, haddock, cod and mackerel, cockles, whelks, mussels and oysters. Leigh-on-Sea has frequently been cited as one of the best places to live in the UK, owing to factors such as its proximity to London, and schools, good access to sports and arts activities, multiple opportunities to develop skills, and a strong sense of belonging and community spirit.

We had clear skies in Bethel, Vermont, on October 7, 2021, which enabled me to capture an image of the night sky at about 8:30 pm.

Op de 1e dag was er een mogelijkheid om op het station in Simpelveld een foto te maken voor er naar de SGB werd vertrokken met het nieuwe bordessein dat in de ochtend was ingehuldigd. DE-3 151 in Simpelveld op 3-7-2021.

The sun sets beyond evening clouds and sea stacks along the Pacific Coast at Crescent City, California.
Earlier this month we got away for a few days of photography in far Northern California — the redwood country, but also the never-far-away coast. We stayed in Crescent City the first couple of nights, just below the Oregon border, since this place provides good access to several of the redwood parks. The days are very long in far Northern California at this time of year, and even with several hours of morning photography and several hours of work in the evening, there is a lot of “in between time.” On this day we decided to enjoy an early dinner in town before heading out for evening photography. Eventually we worked our way to this spot along a bluff at the edge of town.
I had a particular subject in mind when we arrived, but the conditions were evolving in a somewhat unexpected way. A weak weather front was approaching from the northwest, and it was clear that its cloud shield was going to block the sun as it descended toward the horizon. I made a few quick exposures in pseudo-evening light, and then the light went gray. It was difficult to say for sure, but it looked like there might be a gap between the bottom of the clouds and the ocean, and in anticipation of the sun’s light coming through that gap right at sunset I quickly moved to a different location that placed this sea stack with its small tree in line with some more distant rocks and the likely position of the setting sun.

02-november-2021: the morning solar heating and the persistence of cold air at high altitude, generated cloud cover and some showers, with snow above 1500m a.s.l.
On the right there is the "But" river valley, in its North/South length, up to the meeting with the "Tagliamento" river valley, under Mount Amariana (1906m a.s.l.) in the center of the background.

You've gotta take the good days with the bad. Not all storm chases are going to be the one for the record books... hence this day.
Nice moderate risk day right on the Nebraska Kansas Border. We were in position again for a good chase but the storms formed just to our north and we stayed put due to guess on where the Cap was going to break that day.
All of the action was in southeast Nebraska right over the border. Though about 50 miles to our east. There was no way were going to catch up with them and all we had left was some pulse storm.
Not what I call and good day of chasing... but this happens and you can't get depressed. Its May....There will be more storms!

American Bison
The American Bison or simply Bison (Bison bison), also commonly known as the American Buffalo or simply Buffalo, is an American species of Bison that once roamed North America in vast herds. Its historical range, by 9000 BC, is described as the Great Bison Belt, a tract of rich grassland that ran from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico, east to the Atlantic Seaboard (nearly to the Atlantic tidewater in some areas) as far north as New York and south to Georgia and, according to some sources, further south to Florida, with sightings in North Carolina near Buffalo Ford on the Catawba River as late as 1750. It nearly became extinct by a combination of commercial hunting and slaughter in the 19th century and introduction of bovine diseases from domestic cattle. With a population more than 60 million in the late 18th century, the species was down to just 541 animals by 1889. Recovery efforts expanded in the mid-20th century, with a resurgence to roughly 31,000 wild Bison today, largely restricted to a few national parks and reserves. Through multiple reintroductions, the species is now also freely roaming wild in some regions in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with it also being introduced to Yakutia in Russia.

Looked about for some stripes out and about but didn't see that many ( checkout the first comment box for a triptyct of a few stripy captures ) . However , there are some stripes staring at me on the hall chest of drawers next to where I am always leaving cameras about . Yes it is Bagpuss , he has been here for a long time now and this week it is his turn for a picture to be taken here , sat comfy on a little rocking chair . To a degree there are some secondary stripes created by the back of the rocking chair as well .
Bagpuss is a British children's television series, made by Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate through their company Smallfilms. The series of 13 episodes was first broadcast from Tuesday 12 February to Tuesday 7 May 1974. The title character was "a saggy, old cloth cat, baggy, and a bit loose at the seams". Although only 13 episodes were made, it remains fondly remembered, and was frequently repeated in the UK until 1986. In early 1999, Bagpuss topped a BBC poll for the UK's favourite children's television programme.
Each programme began in the same way: through a series of sepia photographs, the viewer is told of a little girl named Emily (played by Emily Firmin, the daughter of illustrator Peter Firmin), who owned a shop. Emily found lost and broken things and displayed them in the window, so their owners could come and collect them; the shop did not sell anything.
She would leave the object in front of her favourite stuffed toy, the large, saggy, pink and white striped cat named Bagpuss. Emily then recited a verse:
Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss
Old Fat Furry Catpuss
Wake up and look at this thing that I bring
Wake up, be bright, be golden and light
Bagpuss, oh hear what I sing
After Emily had left, Bagpuss woke up. The programme shifted from sepia to colour stop motion film, and various toys in the shop came to life: Gabriel the toad (who, unlike most Smallfilms characters, could move by a special device beneath his can without the use of stop motion animation) and a rag doll called Madeleine. The wooden woodpecker bookend became the drily academic Professor Yaffle (based on the philosopher Bertrand Russell, whom Postgate had once met), while the mice carved on the side of the "mouse organ" (a small mechanical pipe organ that played rolls of music) woke up and scurried around, singing in high-pitched voices. Sandra Kerr and John Faulkner provided the voices of Madeleine and Gabriel respectively, and put together and performed all the folk songs. All the other voices (including the narrator and one out-of-tune mouse) were provided by Postgate, who also wrote the stories.
The toys discussed what the new object was; someone (usually Madeleine) would tell a story related to the object (shown in an animated thought bubble over Bagpuss's head), often with a song, accompanied by Gabriel on the banjo (which often sounded a lot more like a guitar), and then the mice, singing in high-pitched squeaky harmony to the tune of Sumer Is Icumen In as they worked, mended the broken object. There was much banter between the characters, with the pompous Yaffle constantly finding fault with the playful mice: his complaint, 'Those mice are never serious!' became his main catchphrase. However, peace was always restored by the end of the episode, usually thanks to the timely intervention of Bagpuss, Gabriel or Madeleine. The newly mended thing was then placed in the shop window, so that whoever had lost it would see it as they went past, and could come in and claim it. Then Bagpuss would start yawning again, and as he fell asleep the narrator would speak as the colour faded to sepia and they all became toys again.

Grizzly Bear
The Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis), also known as the North American brown bear or simply Grizzly, is a population or subspecies of the Brown Bear inhabiting North America.
Grizzlies, like black bears, come in a variety of colors. They can range from blond to nearly black. Sometimes they have silver-tipped guard hairs that give them a "grizzled" appearance. Grizzlies often have a dished-in face and a large hump of heavy muscle above the shoulders. Their claws are around four inches long. Grizzlies usually weigh around 300-600 pounds but can grow up to 1,400 pounds. Adult Grizzlies can be six feet or more when standing on hind legs, and three to four feet when standing on all fours. Based on a multi-year DNA study, it's estimated that there are roughly 750 grizzly bears living within the Greater Yellowstone Area.

Pictures from a quick spin through campus on Tuesday January 12th, 2021. I did notice some squirrels with mange. Luckily, I had my medicated pecans. Fun brief visit with my squirrels. The campus was mostly empty except for the squirrels. It will be like that this Winter Term. Sending love and virtual hugs from Ann Arbor, Michigan.
