Hey we have our Berlin City Palace back. 😉 This is what someone says who had never seen the original. Yes I. But I knew Erich's old lamp shop (the Palast der Republik). So! Fortunately, that was a long time ago. Berlin definitely needs more courage for great architecture. Which has already worked out well here. Buildings in Berlin that are neither beautiful nor too practical are built far too quickly. Why did I photograph it from this perspective? I found exactly this angle very interesting. I saw the Spree, the bridge and the associated Berlin City Palace as a challenge.
Again, I use the usual ND filters to get a softer water reflection with longer exposure. I think I managed to make the new Berlin City Palace look great. What do you say?

This photo was taken in early May of 2021. At the time, I was still recovering from Covid and very weak. We decided to take a drive down to Denali National Park to see what we would find. Unfortunately, we went down on a weekend and the park was full of cars. There was a traffic jam of about 20 cars parked all over the road and most people were out of their cars chasing this poor bear. (Why anyone would want to chase a bear with a camera is beyond me) We drove past the traffic jam, took us about 10 minutes to pass the mess. We decided to park about a quarter mile past the crowd and just sit and watch the show. The bear was out of sight where we were sitting but the actions of the crowd showed us he was heading our way. Thankfully, most gave up and went back to their cars, a few were still running along the road. Sure enough, the bear emerged to our left and we took a few shots of it and decided to take off before the crowd caught up with us.
I may be old and cranky, but it seems like people check common sense in their butts when they see wildlife, especially bears and moose.

The style and stamens of Marvel of Peru, Mirabilis jalapa, withdrawing into the flower as it closes in the morning. Their arrangement reminds me of a trombone being played hence the title. For more information about this plant see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirabilis_jalapa

The Northern Belle Liverpool Lime St-Carlisle LMS Princess Royal Class 4-6-2 No 6201 Princess Elizabeth at High Scales. We were most fortunate to get the shot with the Edinburgh-Manchester Victoria breathing down the up line ten seconds or more and we would have been blocked. Good to see Peter Ainsworth at this location enjoyable company as always.

Seen here at Northfield Terminus now in it's 21st year of service and still out performing many newer vehicles is Stagecoach Bluebird Volvo B7TL ALX400 16974 ESK934.
New to Dublin Bus in October 2000 as their AV71 (00-D-40071), it was imported to the UK in 2013 and reregistered as X122HKY joining the Highland Scotbus fleet along with 5 other B7TLs. In 2017 following the sale of Highland Scotbus they moved to D&E Coaches in Inverness with AV71 gaining the plate P5YST.
In January 2019 D&E Coaches terminated their service bus contracts early and sold around 30 vehicles to Stagecoach. Included in the sale was 5 B7TLs (AV56, AV71, AV214, AV222 & AV256), these joined the Stagecoach Highland fleet becoming 16973-77, due to height restrictions at Inverness they moved to the Bluebird fleet a few months later gaining Beachball livery and private plates. As of April 2021 all 5 remaining in active use.

This past weekend was so beautiful with temps in the high 40s, low 50s and lots of sunshine. It was nice to get out and about to enjoy some fresh mountain air, and as always, some fabulous scenery. Of course, it wouldn't be springtime in the mountains without a few snowy days and looks like we are expecting over 2 feet of snow later this week.

This one took a while to find. Once it showed up, it stuck around for about 15 minutes. Only a handful of birds to find yet. Might have to go for the gulls.

Op 15 mei 2021 reed DB Cargo een Militaire trein bestaande uit veel verschillende legervoertuigen vanuit Duitsland richting Amersfoort. De trein was erg lang en de tractie moest dan ook geleverd worden door niet één, maar twee 6400'en. De tweede loc was hierbij de 6461, wat de trein nóg leuker maakte.
Hier zien we de fraaie combinatie de spoorbrug in Deventer op rijden, onderweg naar de Amersfoortse Vlasakkers!

Fleeting light - The iconic view to the Black Cuillin across Loch Scavaig from Elgol, with the fleeting light just catching the base of the rocks of the honeycomb cliff.
Fleeting it was, lasting barely a handful of seconds; moments before it was absolutely lashing it down having been caught out by the heavy squall whilst hobbling my way across the boulders on the beach. I had sheltered beneath the cliff to let the squall pass when this momentary unexpected splash of light appeared as if from nowhere, bathing the rocks and cliff in bright warmth. With my gear safely stowed away in the dry beneath the cliff and with absolutely no time to set up, I grabbed a handful of impromptu shots finding myself unprepared in an unplanned location on the beach.
Fortunate that I did so; this was the only show of light that evening, from this point on, the gloom set in, with the Cuillin throwing ever more weather across Loch Scavaig.

In mid-June 2021 four Enviro 400 MMCs from Ware in Hertfordshire were loaned to Maidstone the affected vehicles were: 6487 [YY16 YKW], 6488 [YY16 YKX], 6489 [YY16 YKZ] & 6493 [YY16 YLD]. All four were returned to Hertfordshire in convoy on Monday 30th August 2021.
Pictured here only days after arriving in Kent, Arriva Kent Thameside (on-loan to Arriva Kent & Surrey), 6493 YY16 YLD "Paul Stavrou" is seen passing over the A228 on Rocford Road, Snodland whilst working route 71. Tuesday 22nd June 2021.
ADL E40D - ADL Enviro 400 MMC
Svantovit is one of the main Slavic deities and is the god of war, fertility and abundance. It was primarily venerated on the island of Rügen into the 12th century. Svantovit is associated with war and divination and depicted as a four-headed god with two heads looking forward and two back. A statue portraying the god shows him with four heads, each one looking in a separate direction, a symbolic representation of the four directions of the compass.
Svantovit is een van de belangrijkste Slavische goden en is de god van oorlog, vruchtbaarheid en overvloed. Het werd vooral vereerd op het eiland Rügen in de 12e eeuw. Svantovid wordt geassocieerd met oorlog en waarzeggerij en afgebeeld als een vierkoppige god met twee hoofden die vooruit kijken en twee terug. Een beeld dat de god uitbeeldt toont hem met vier hoofden, elk in een aparte richting kijkend, een symbolische weergave van de vier windrichtingen.

Here is my first attempt at low-key portrait photography using off-camera flash reflected off an umbrella. To achieve this efffect, I eliminated all ambient light by reducing my SSO to it’s lowest value and set my shutter speed to 1/250. Even with my aperture at f2.0, this was enough to ensure my image was totally black. I then connected the flash and adjusted the power to achieve the lighting I liked.. It was fun to do and even better that my very patient wife (and model) liked the result!

It’s about time for the usual end of year sign off! 2021 saw a mind-blowing 2.8 million views making it the biggest year ever by some distance so thank you to everyone who views, favourites or comments on any of the pictures I post.

Nice clouds and beautiful day. I took this shot and many others (like close to 200 shots) that afternoon through the window of my hotel room. It was several floors up and there was no way I could clean the outside glass, but I could wipe the interior window pretty well.
I think the *soul* of this picture and the others I took that day was just going ahead and accepting the circumstances and having fun anyway, and getting some pretty cool shots.
Also, part of the *soul of this one was for a long time (long time meaning the months since I took some of these pictures) I thought the name of the company was SALA. But I researched it and it is SAIA, and though I never heard of it before last year, it is actually a pretty old company (I think in the 80 - 90 year range). So I am not too old to learn something new.
I don't know my way around Portland, Oregon much (used to be able to find the Zoo and the Japanese Gardens and maybe the Airport, but not much else). Consequently I'm not familiar with their bridge names (across the Willamette River). There are probably 8 or 9 of them or even more. It is a very big river, a major waterway in Oregon. I like to be able to label my pictures where I took them. I saw the written name for this bridge as Marquam but called a few tourist type places and maybe City Hall or something and learned the correct pronunciation. There is no kwuh sound for the qu in the name. The *q* is pretty darn silent. The name is pronounced Marcum or Markum.
The name Willamette is common in Oregon, and almost 50 years ago, when we moved here from California, my real estate lady informed me that it is not pronounced like spaghetti/WillaMETTY. Nor was it pronounced like Willeh-METT. Nor was the first nor the last syllable the important one. The middle syllable of LAM was the emphasized one, and rhymed with *Dam* like on a river. She was 71 at the time, and an elegant lady, but also allowed as to *lam* rhyming with Damn. So she taught me, "it's Wil-LAM-met, Damn it! I'll tell you what, I learned that name!
So I thought of memory of her when I inquired by phone, this Marquam pronunciation. ;o)
On some of my viewers may be wondering why this was in Portland, Oregon which is roughly 110 miles north of Springfield, where I live, why I put it in my Springfield album, and not in some newly formed Portland album. Well, I'm writing a book of very tiny but very true stories, and my recall of the various little stories is greater if I remember where I lived at the time something happened An example I've used before but not all of you ever saw, it is that if I were to fly to Houston, Texas to visit my favorite Aunt Dorothy, but my home was in Brownsville, Oregon at the time, and that is where I returned to when the Christmas visit was over, then the pictures I took might be in Houston, but I would put them and any story/stories with them in my Brownsville, Oregon album. It was be incredibly awkward to try to have a set for every place I ever visited. It is hard enough to have an album for every place I've lived. So once again, clear as a Texas River. ;o)

Heute, dem 04.04.2021, waren zwei E-Loks der Baureihe 142 (ehemals E42 der DR) in Altenburg um einige Wagen aus dem Waggonwerk abzuholen und nach Horka zu verbringen.
Today, April 4th, 2021, two East German electric locomotives class 242 (now class 142) picked up some cars to transfer them to Horka.
