Ponce de Leon claimed Florida for Spain in 1513. (Christopher Columbus discovered North America in 1492 but actually landed in the Bahamas). Other Spanish explorers later found gold and silver in Mexico and Peru. The treasure was sent back to Spain in ships sailing in the Gulf Stream. Spanish settlements needed to be built in Florida to protect the Spanish Treasure fleets. King Phillip II of Spain sent Pedro Menendez to settle in Florida and drive out French garrisons recently established there. In September 1565, Pedro Menendez with 700 soldiers and colonists landed 'here' and founded St. Augustine making it the oldest continually occupied European settlement in North America ~ Saint Augustine Inlet

Die Hundskirche wacht einem Wachhunde gleich an diesem Morgen über dem Nebelmeer. Dabei hat der Name mit einem "Hund" tatsächlich nichts zu tun, denn es rührt von "hunskerk" = "Hohe Spitze" her, was auch recht treffend scheint.

'Roid Week 2021 Spring 1/2
Van 8 t/m 11 september ging ik samen met een vriend 4 dagen treinen spotten in het mooie Tsjechië. De voorspellingen lieten een aantal dagen met zon zien en qua werk kon het ook nog even.
Op vrijdag konden we de derde dag met zon aftikken en daar werd weer goed gebruik van gemaakt. We besloten de ochtend te besteden aan de diesellijnen Ostroměř-Stará Paka en Křinec-Městec Králové. Vanaf 12 december 2021 wordt laatstegenoemde lijn niet meer doordeweeks bereden door reizigerstreinen. Wellicht een stap in de richting van volledige sluiting. Voor ons een goede reden om deze lijn te bezoeken. Daarnaast zijn er rondom Křinec nog armseinen te vinden.
We begonnen in Městec Králové waar wij gelijkertijd met goederentrein binnen kwamen. Na een paar foto's van het rangeerwerk werd er richting Křinec gereden om daar bij een armsein een foto te maken van een broodtrommel. Daarna werd een stek gezocht bij een armsein aan de lijn Kopidlno-Křinec. Hier komt rond half één de goederentrein vanuit Městec Králové langs. Het sein is te bereiken via een onverharde weg en daarna moet een klein wandelingetje worden gemaakt via een pad langs het spoor.
Eénmaal aangekomen bij de stek moest er nog een beetje snoeiwerk worden verricht en vrij snel daarna hoorden we in de verte de tyfoon van de locomotief en het gegrom van de dieselmotor. De seinwachter liet de goederentrein nog even afremmen voor het sein. Vlak voor het sein werd het sein op veilig gezet en kon de locomotief lekker optrekken.
Hier zien we de ČDC 742 192-8 met goederentrein Mn 84562 Městec Králové-Nymburk vjezdové nádraží het veilige sein naderen ten oosten van station Křinec. De rook van het optrekken is noch zichtbaar boven de bomen rechts.

Nothing too repetitive around here this week, so I finally ended up at this gate that I pass every day ( repetitive) and the five beams do sort of repeat themselves, but then it looked so deadly dull that I had to pass in through DDG for some colour and create a pen and ink repeat pattern below it - hopefully enough repeats to count as repetitive!

L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, a temporary artwork for Paris, was on view for 16 days from Saturday, September 18 to Sunday, October 3, 2021. (...) It was wrapped in 25,000 square meters of recyclable polypropylene fabric in silvery blue, and with 3,000 meters of red rope.

L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped était visible durant 16 jours, du samedi 18 septembre au dimanche 3 octobre 2021. Le projet fut réalisé en partenariat avec le Centre des monuments nationaux (CMN) et en coordination avec la Ville de Paris. Il reçoit aussi le soutien du Centre Pompidou. L'Arc de Triomphe était empaqueté dans 25 000 mètres carrés de tissu recyclable en polypropylène argent bleuté et avec 3 000 mètres de corde recyclable en polypropylène rouge.

EZK 53465 Maschen Rbf - Niedermarschacht
Am 22. Februar 2021 stand das zweite Mal in diesem Jahr die "Bock-Übergabe" nach Niedermarschacht auf dem Plan. Das Wetter war passend bestellt und auch die Bespannung der Anschlussbedienung von der Chemiefabrik "Bruno Bock" war sehr interessant. An diesem Montag sollte, wie an den letzten beiden Verkehrstagen der vorangegangenen Woche auch schon, die Railsystems 295 067-3, die aktuell im Einsatz für DB Cargo steht, die Übergabe bespannen. Bisher hatte ich auf dieser Strecke nur verkehrsrote Loks der Baureihen 294, 295, 296 ablichten können. Es ist zwar schon öfters in der Vergangenheit eine der bunten Mietloks auf der Strecke unterwegs gewesen, aber entweder passte das Wetter nicht oder ich hatte keine Zeit. Ich fuhr also rechtzeitig zu Hause los, so dass ich etwa eine Stunde vor der Plandurchfahrtszeit in Fahrenholz bin. Durch einen kleinen Stau auf der Autobahn verlor ich zwar ein paar Minuten, aber ich war trotzdem noch weit vor Plan vor Ort. Zum Glück! Denn kaum war ich aus dem Auto gestiegen, hatte mich Winterfest und die Kamera startklar gemacht, da trötet es auch schon. Aber noch weit entfernt. Da der Triebfahrzeugführer ziemlich Spaß an seinem Makrophon hatte, konnte man gut erahnen, wo die Fuhre sich gerade befand. Ich hatte also noch Zeit meine gewünschte Position auf dem Deich einzunehmen. Dann noch schnell die Kamera eingestellt und schon bog die ozeanblau-beige 295 mit fünf Kesselwagen am Haken um die Kurve. Kurze Zeit später waren der Teleschuss und das obige Bild im Kasten. Das war eine knappe Kiste. So früh hatte ich diesem Zug dort noch nie gesehen. Die gewohnte Durchfahrt wäre erst etwa 60min später gewesen. Wie sich später herausstellte war der Tf schon um einiges vor Plan in Maschen in den Arbeitstag gestartet und dementsprechend früh dran. Nach dem Bild ging es zum Auto zurück und dem EZK hinterher. Es entstanden im Laufe des Vormittags noch ein paar Bilder von der Anschlussbedienung bzw. dem Sortieren der Kesselwagen in der Ausweichstelle vorm Werkstor. Durch die sehr frühe Hinfahrt, sollte möglicherweise sogar die Rückfahrt noch passend im Licht fahren. Dazu folgte, dann evtl. auch noch ein Bild...

The comma (Polygonia c-album) is a species of butterfly that occurs throughout most of Europe and across temperate Asia, reaching Japan. It is also found in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
The comma is primarily a woodland butterfly, where it can be seen along woodland rides and country lanes. However, especially in late summer, the butterfly is frequently seen in gardens where it feeds in on nectar sources to build up its fat reserves before entering hibernation.
This orange brown butterfly has highly scalloped wings, looking like a dead leaf with wings closed .
The shape and camouflage of its wings would fool any predator. With wings closed, it closely resembles a dry leaf with dark veins and is a spectacular example of camouflage.
The upperside is rich orange brown with darker brown spots. The common name ‘comma’ refers to the presence of a prominent white comma-shaped marking on the underwing.
The wingspan is 4.2 - 4.9 cm.
De gehakkelde aurelia (Polygonia c-album) ) is een dagvlinder die in het grootste deel van Europa en in gematigd Azië tot in Japan voorkomt. Ook in noord Afrika (Marokko, Algerije en Tunesië) wordt de vlinder aangetroffen.
In Nederland is de gehakkelde aurelia een algemene standvlinder.
De gehakkelde aurelia is een bewoner van bosranden en open plekken in het bos. In de nazomer is de vlinder vaak te zien in tuinen. De vlinder voedt zich dan extra met nectar voor de wintermaanden.
De gehakkelde aurelia dankt de Nederlandstalige naam aan de grof gekartelde (gehakkelde) vleugelrand. Tussen de voor- en achtervleugel is ook een grote inkeping zichtbaar. De volwassen vlinder voorvleugels met een lengte tussen de 20 en 26 mm. De spanwijdte is 42 à 49 mm.
De basiskleur van de bovenzijde van de vleugels is oranje, de kleur kan enigszins variëren van oranjerood tot bruin. Op de vleugels bevinden zich een aantal donkerbruine tot zwarte vlekken. De vleugelrand is bruin en aan de binnenzijde afgezet met gele vlekjes. De onderzijde van de vleugels is grijsbruin met een duidelijk zichtbare witte C-vorm op de achtervleugel.
Met dichtgeklapte vleugels lijkt de vlinder sprekend op een dor blaadje. Dus wanneer de vlinder zo tussen verdord of afgevallen blad zit, is de vlinder uitstekend gecamoufleerd. Dit is vooral van belang in de overwinteringsfase, als de vlinder zich verstopt in de afgevallen bladeren of in holle bomen.
