Please not that I am NOT claiming this for #1 - I don't want any trouble, ok ?!
My wifes engagement ring, still on her finger 24 or so years later.

I started actively using Ravelry a few weeks ago, and it's shifted my behaviour in several substantial ways.
1. I now have a forum I visit multiple times a day, and check obsessively to see if anyone has replied (appreciate me, please!). This of course means that I can no longer nag Kyle about spending so much time on NeoGAF...
2. I crochet, obsessively. I spend all my spare time (and even some non spare time) crocheting, and I've started writing patterns too. Before Ravelry, I crocheted because I had promised people that I'd make them afghans. Now I crochet because I want to CREATE.
3. I have turned my photography towards more... practical matters. I spend a lot of time photographing my crafts, and I spent an obscene amount of time photographing my stash (i.e. yarn collection). Who takes photos of their yarn? I do I do!

Alright, here's what we're gonna call attempt #1. I decided to open a flickr because I had a blast making this edit and can't wait to do more to show you guys. I also wanted to have a place to put my pics where the quality can be seen a lot better. I'll post more "attempts" later on just to see how much I can improve. Constructive criticism is always welcome!

Sperre Einigen

A.bbruch von «J.ulia»
***************************************************************************************************************
.
.
.

13. I saw Titanic 15 times in the theater and cried every time.
14. I wake up at 6am every day. Even Saturday & Sunday. My body is just programmed that way.
15. My fetish is office supplies. I own more pens, post-its, clips etc than Office Depot. I won't let anybody else touch my stuff either.

Upon detonation releases an explosion followed by an electrically infused shock wave which electrocutes anyone in its path and causes a temporary Electromagnetic Pulse (E.M.P.)
Two things I noticed after digging up this picture:
1. I really miss keeping these guys.
2. The play sand I use to buy in Seattle was really cool stuff. It's like miniature aquarium gravel!

Well today is March 1 and today is my Day 300 of 365 Days. I wanted to do something a little more over-the-top compared to the one I did for Year 1. I could've used one of the many jumping sunrise shots I did but I'm feeling it's getting cliche, a little passe. So I just used this simple one!
This year seems to be going faster compared to Year 1. Maybe it's more participation in certain groups, more flexibility using a DSLR or even, god-willing, more creativity than last year. Well I hope it continues, I still have over two months left in the journey.

My first secret, well it's not really a secret but it's something that I cannot abide... wonky pictures / photos / mirrors on walls. Even if I'm in someone elses house and I see a wonky picture I have to straighten it.
I'm forever doing it in our house as we have lots of paintings dotted around the house, I notice if it's only a couple of mm out and it drives me craaaazy!
I fixed the annoying flickr logo..
1. I put a drop shadow on there, people love drop shadows.
2. bevel! another thing people can't get enough of.
3. instead of the "r" being a different color, I made every other letter a different color.
I still think we should be using cooper black for the flickr font.
I got word about this new “store” that opened this past weekend from one of my Instagram peeps and I decided that tonight was a good night to take the boys and check them out for 3 reasons:
1. I love board games
2. Tuesdays are half price
3. They have air conditioning and we don’t
Their concept is quite simple actually – you pay $5 per person ($2.50 on Tuesdays) and you can play any of their 500 games for as long as you want. The also sell the usual bevies (non-alcoholic at this point) and treats (from local establishments like our favourite Cake and Loaf) to keep you going while you play.
The boys went nuts with the games! We ended up playing Family Feud, Life, Kerplunk, Uno, Zombie Dice, Blokus, Yatzee in the 3 hours that we were there. The staff there are great and they spent time teaching us the rules to a few games we didn’t know. I see many a return visit in our future.
If you are in the Hamilton area you should definitely check them out – www.gameopolis.ca/

Things to do shortly:
The local Costco has announced that as of March 1 they are no longer going to develop 35mm film. The cost of the equipment verses how much undeveloped film they take in isn’t balancing out anymore, so they’re discontinuing that service. Reprints from negatives, enlargements, and digital prints will still be offered because those are all done on the computer and don’t require special materials.
The central idea of my concentration is translating Beatles songs into imagery.
I started off with literal translations of Beatles lyrics. For example in picture #1, I illustrate the song “In My Life.” The lyrics talk about memories that are cherished, so I thought about my own life and reliving cherished memories through snapshots from my childhood. I continued with literal translations in picture # 6.using the lyrics “With tangerine trees and marmalade skies,” to create my imagery. In the next group of images, I switched from illustrating lyrics to creating the characters described in the songs. For example, on picture #2 I created the character “Polythene Pam” I used the lyrics to guide me in creating the character. In picture #11,I illustrated “Happiness Is A Warm Gun” I used a more figurative translation, going more in-depth with the meaning. I researched the song and found that it was inspired by a woman who gets revenge on her husband. I depicted her imagining her own hand transforming into a gun to kill her husband. In picture #12, I was inspired by many elements in the song--the soothing tone, the lyrics describing an “ocean child” and how the repetitive words sound like the soft whispers that slowly fade away. All of these elements guided me to create an image that goes beyond a literal translation and captures the essence of the song. In the end, I learned that in each song is like a poem, using a diversity of elements to create an artistic impression.
1. I made this when Toks was a pup.
2. Sometimes it gets a pulling down to the panties just like the kids.
hee,hee.
I have been tagged by Simon in a fact thing. So, here are some facts.
1. I like marmite.
2. My longest consecutive relationship was about a day.
3. I have technically drummed for the band Dananananaykroyd. During one of their shows in Wrexham (of which, is where I live), John Bailey Jr. sidled over to me at one point, handed me the keys to his second drum kit, and let me take control of the wheel. It was awesome. And no, I'm not confusing a car for a drum kit, I am merely being whimsical.
4. I have street teamed for the Automatic.
5. I used to create little sketches of fictional album covers for the hell of it, tracklistings and all.
6. I am gay. Cop out one, but I'm running out of ideas for facts. Tbh, I'm not that exciting, history wise.
7. Will & Grace is my favourite Americano sitcom.
8. I prefer film to digital photography.
9. My favourite shop is the COW vintage shop in Birmingham.
10. I like coffee.
This photo satisfies requirement 1. I decreased the shutter speed to let less light in and ultimately decrease the exposure. It gives the illusion of this photo being shot later in the evening when in reality it was shot under a bright afternoon. I used Lightroom to increase the contrast and bring out the whites from the sky to set the foreground from the background.
Ok, so "I'm Fat" is not a secret - everyone can see that. Just look at that chin. Well, ok - those chins, LOL. The actual secret is that I've recently learned to accept that I won't lose the weight due to my medical conditions and some medication. I have learned to accept myself as I am and know that others love me no matter my size.

1) I miss the simpler times
2) I believe in freedom and personal responsibility
3) I forget that I'm a "color"
4) I have a very short fuse
5) Greg makes me sane
6) My mom drives me insane
7) I am incredibly paranoid about everything all the time
8) I am a total wimp about pain, needles, scalpels, etc.
9) I love to indulge in cupcakes, coffee, and chocolate way too often
10) I have more calculators than one person really needs
11) I wish Reverse Polish Notation was the standard
12) I never thought that a doll would make me so happy and love all the people Blythe has brought into my life
13) I wish I could just "be" sometimes... whatever that really means
14) No matter how fair I *try* to be, I am very partial (Molli vs her sisters, Turbo vs Ultra, etc.)
15) I have the hardest time choosing something on a menu (because I usually just want it all)
16) I'm usually not a big fan of fruity ice cream flavors
I have missed a few runs from a lack of memory, but today I was determined to remember! And I actually pulled out the big girl camera and played around some. Today was my mom's birthday and we took her out to dinner, so I actually curled my hair and put on makeup, which rarely happens.
Happy to be back!
(•) – The-Lockheed-Martin-HC-130-P-Hercules-The-Combat-K.I.N.G-1-I-is an extended-range version of the C-130 Hercules transport. HC-130 crews provide expeditionary, all weather personnel recovery capabilities to our Combatant Commanders and Joint/Coalitions partners worldwide.
Mission
The mission of the HC-130P/N "King" is to rapidly deploy to austere airfields and denied territory in order to execute , all weather personnel recovery operations anytime...anywhere. King crews routinely perform high and low altitude personnel & equipment airdrops, infiltration/exfiltration of personnel, helicopter air-to-air refueling, and forward area refueling point missions.
When tasked, the aircraft also conducts humanitarian assistance operations, disaster response, security cooperation/aviation advisory, emergency aeromedical evacuation, casualty evacuation, noncombatant evacuation operations, and, during the Space Shuttle program, space flight support for NASA.
Features
Modifications to the HC-130P/N are improved navigation, threat detection and countermeasures systems. The aircraft fleet has a fully-integrated inertial navigation and global positioning systems, and night vision goggle, or NVG, compatible interior and exterior lighting. It also has forward-looking infrared, radar and missile warning receivers, chaff and flare dispensers, satellite and data-burst communications.
The HC-130 can fly in the day; however, crews normally fly night at low to medium altitude levels in contested or sensitive environments, both over land or overwater. Crews use NVGs for tactical flight profiles to avoid detection to accomplish covert infiltration/exfiltration and transload operations. To enhance the probability of mission success and survivability near populated areas, crews employ tactics that include incorporating no external lighting or communications, and avoiding radar and weapons detection.
Drop zone objectives are done via personnel drops and equipment drops. Rescue bundles include illumination flares, marker smokes and rescue kits. Helicopter air-to-air refueling can be conducted at night, with blacked out communication with up to two simultaneous helicopters. Additionally, forward area refueling point operations can be executed to support a variety of joint and coalition partners.
Background
The HC-130P/N is the only dedicated fixed-wing combat search and rescue platform in the Air Force inventory. The 71st and 79th Rescue Squadrons in Air Combat Command, the 550th Special Operations Squadron in Air Education and Training Command, the 920th Rescue Group in Air Force Reserve Command and the 106th Rescue Wing, 129th RQW and 176th Wing in the Air National Guard operate the aircraft.
First flown in 1964, the aircraft has served many roles and missions. It was initially modified to conduct search and rescue missions, provide a command and control platform, in-flight-refuel helicopters and carry supplemental fuel for extending range and increasing loiter time during search operations.
In April 2006, the continental U.S. search and rescue mission was transferred back to Air Combat Command at Langley AFB, Va. From 2003 to 2006, the mission was under the Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla. Previously, HC-130s were assigned to ACC from 1992 to 2003. They were first assigned to the Air Rescue Service as part of Military Airlift Command.
They have been deployed to Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey in support of operations Southern and Northern Watch, Allied Force, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. HC-130s also support continuous alert commitments in Alaska and the Horn of Africa.

Professional Bull Riding (PBR) Tour at the Central Texas State Fair, Bell County Exposition Center, Belton, TX. August 30, 2014.
Lessons learned :
1. I had to shoot at high ISO, so yes, there is graininess and quite a bit of "motion" in the shots. Maybe it would have been better if I were closer, had a camera w/better sensor, etc. Note for next time...GET CLOSER to the action.
2. Watch the pattern of action. While the cattle were constantly in motion, they would pause briefly at times, when bucking the rider off. I attempted to wait for those moments. The reaction time from pushing the button to the camera actually clicking, even split seconds, was difficult to manage. Anticipate the moments.
3. Don't take your eye off the action. The unexpected action may happen and only last a split second. Catch it. I was shooting in RAW. If I had shot in jpg only, I would have been able to shoot more frames/sec, catching more of the moments.
4. Many more lessons... Key is to shoot more and to always keep learning. This was way out of my comfort zone, but a great learning experience!

Argus C4
I spent mosy of the day at work but got time to take a roll with my Argus C4.
I had picked up some store branded film called Memories for a dollar. It was 200 ISO color print made in Japan - Konica??
Just used the sunny 16 rule for exposure with compensation for cloudy day. Thank goodness for the break in the heat here in Texas.
I was so inspired by the whole experiance that I sat about repairing my Argus C-3 for next year.
Maybe some red Lizard skin covering.....

Here is a DIY project to make shock cord holders. These are often used for tents or a dining fly. Commercially they are made with a plastic Ball on the end. Here is how I made mine.
1) I cut 1/2 inch or so pieces off of a Dowel rod (1.25 inch I think). I used a hand saw and miter box. This created a ragged edge which would have to be sanded out for a nicer finish. For what I am doing I did not do that.
2) Drilled a hole in the middle of this "Cookie". just big enough to push the shock cord through doubled at the center.
3) Cut my shock cord slightly longer than twice around the object I am securing. 3in pipe that protects my straight edges in this case.
4) Fused the ends of the shock cord so they do not fray.
5) Folded the shock cord at the middle. Pushed that center point through the hole in the "cookie"
6) Tied a figure 8 knot in the bitter end of the shock cord. Pushed the "cookie" to the knot.
7) Tacked the assembly to the wall of the shed where I wanted to secure my tools with a fence staple (a U shaped nail that is driven with a hammer).
8) set my pipe in place and looped the middle over the cookie.
9) Repeate steps 1-8 3 more times. Then step back and said what a good idea.
The more tools you put in the tool box the less thinking you have to do outside of it.
I had most of the parts but it look like i cost buy for.
48in 1.25 dowel $5.00 Lowes
shock cord 1/4in X 10 Feet $6.00 Amazon
Staples are $6.00 a box (I only used 4)
There are a bunch of uses for these. You could make the "cookie" out of all kinds of material. These will NOT be exposed to the weather so I did not finish them if I were planning on using them outside I would poly them.
I was tagged by the beautiful and beautifully talented *erinnoel* to share 10 Things About Myself.
1.) I am crazy passionate about music. Going to live shows is one of my favorite things in the world. I'll be an old lady in my 70s still going to concerts. I'll stand in the back so as to not annoy the youngsters.
2.) I am very sentimental. Seriously, I'll cry at anything. It doesn't have to be sad. Anything I find sweet, beautiful, nostalgic...
3.) I have mild depression. Not enough to take meds, but enough to probably be the cause of #2.
4.) I stopped speaking to my father when I was 19 years old. If it can be said we ever "spoke". For this reason, I am in awe when I hear friend's talk about simple, nice things their father's did or said to them.
5.) I love to create. Whether by baking, cooking, crafting, knitting, gardening or photographing. I like to see things that come from my hands.
6.) I am a crazy cat lady who doesn't own any cats thanks to the cat-hating dog that came with the husband (but that I love to bits - both the dog and the husband).
7.) I am rather obsessive about organization and having things "just so". This may also be why I detest knick-knacks. Too cluttery.
8.) I have an addiction to OPI Nail Polish. My favorite color is called "I'm Not Really A Waitress". I love having freshly manicured and pedicured hands and feet.
9.) I am big-time liberal. I have very little patience with people who aren't, though I will tolerate them as long as we don't discuss politics.
10.) For a very long time I told people I was agnostic. Then it occurred to me one day that I was only saying that to not have to deal with people's surprise or criticism. Well those days are gone, I am an atheist. And far more kind than any religious person I've ever met. Now on the flipside, I do love tradition. Including Christmas and Easter and so forth. And every year I go to Ash Wednesday mass with my mother. Ironically, I love catholic churches for their sort of "gothness" if you will. I do believe there is something bigger out there, but I can't put the God label on it. It's just not how I see it, or feel it.
Arctic Fox
Toronto Zoo
Last week I went to the zoo with a GRIPS friend. It was my first time out shooting with another photographer (well, other than with larger groups of photographers). What a great experience! It was so nice not to have someone nagging at you to get going and wondering why you needed 50 million shots of the same animal! Lol
So, on to my gripe of the day: Zoo displays.
1) I would like to challenge an engineer to invent a viewing glass that is impervious to finger and forehead prints, smears, dirt, grime, condensation, rain drops etc, etc, etc, while remaining non-reflective, non-distorted etc, etc, etc.
2)I propose that anyone who touches display glass should automatically get elected to clean the glass on the animal side.
3)I propose that only short people (and preferably photographers) be allowed to design the viewing areas of all exhibits. =^P
4)I’d like to suggest that all evidence suggesting ‘the hand of man’ be eliminated from each and every exhibit.
So there you go. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to add your thoughts to this list (…well, obviously only if your comment is in encouragement and support of my own thoughts! Lol) =^P
I was not planning on posting any of these shots. Each and every single one ticks me off because of the ‘hand of man’ element, whether it is a ceiling or pipes, windows, fake looking habitat etc, etc, etc.
…I’m pretty sure that I’ll end up pulling this posting, therefore don’t feel like you need to comment.
Hope everyone had a really great weekend. I’m still trying to finish with the hockey season photo horror, so it may take me a while to visit all of your sites… but I promise to get around eventually.
Enjoy your week everyone! =^D
