1. I took a photo of dead leaves on the floor. This represents autumn because of the colourful dead leaves.

2. If I were to take this photo again I would find a more condensed pile of leaves so there's not so much mud in the picture.

Say NO to Nuclear Power: Itis unsafe, polluting, costly and not a solution to our energy crisis .

Invitation .

Anti-Nuclear protest Demonstration at Jantar Mantar .

.

Dece1nher 8, Jantar Mantar, New Delhi .

.

Friends, .

.

Livelihoods and safety of millions of people and the fragile ecology in the large parts ofour country is threatened today by the .

.

ruling elite's insane nuclear power expansion. People in Jaitapur (Maharashtra), Chutka (Madhya Pradesh), Mithi virdi .

(Gujarat), Gorakhpur (Haryana) and Kovada (Andhra Pradesh) are fighting a difficult battle against these projects. .

.

People from these places will gather to demand scrapping of these projects which are endangering people's safety and .

.

livelihoods. Civil society organisations from Delhi and other parts ofthe country are also joining the protest. .

We would like to invite you for the day long National Anti-Nuclear Protest Demonstration on gtb of December at Jantar .

.

Mantar, New Delhi. We do hope you will be able to join us for this. .

These struggles have highlighted some important local issues as well as generic risks with nuclear technology: .

Nuclear power projects will displace large number of people and threaten the livelihoods in surrounding areas. The fisherfolk in Koodankulam, Jaitapur and Mithivirdi, the mango and cashew cultivators of Jaitapur and the farmers of.

.

Haryana and MP are faced with these challenges. .

The proposed plants are coming up in coastal regions and areas where ecological balance is already under threat as govt's .

.

own reports admit. Environmental clearances for these projects have been obtained by undermining standard norms and procedures. .

Some ofthe proposed reactor designs are new and untested. Areva's EPR has run into trouble in Finland with delays, huge .

cost escalations and objections raised by safety regulators. Nuclear industry in India has been known for their gross negligence of safety in the past. Not only is the Indian nuclear .

establishment unprepared to handle a large scale accident, it cannot be trusted to operate properly and safely such large-.

scale facilities given their experience chequered with inefficiency, accidents, unaccountability, non-transparency. The nuclear power expansion will put huge burden on the Indian exchequer as not only nuclear power expensive, the .

imported reactors are going to cost exponentially more. Also, the government has exempted nuclear suppliers from liability .

India's energy needs can be better met with decentraJised energy production through abundant renewable sources..

and in case ofaccidents; the financial burden will fall on the people. .

And then, are some general problems with nuclear energy itself: .

Nuclear Power is inherently unsafe. While nuclear accidents have very large-scale and long-term consequences unlike other .

industrial accidents, even in the normal operation of reactors, workers and local population is exposed to radiation which .

causes diseases such as cancer, thyroid and leukaemia in long-term. Nuclear waste is a problem that has no solution. Substances like plutonium remain dangerously radioactive for thousands of years. India has nothing more than an ad-hoc policy on nuclear waste. .

Nuclear power is not a solution to Climate Change. It leaves substantial carbon footprints in uranium mining, transport, and After Fukushima, most countries have ordered a phasing out of nuclear power, under! ining the inherent dangers..

construction ofreactors. .

The Indian elite is pushing the country towards a dangerous future obsessed with its idea ofneoliberal 'development' and under .

the influence ofnuclear corporate lobbies. When the people in many parts of the country resisting these projects and facing state .

repression, we must stand it solidari·ty with them. .

We urge you to join us in the protest individually I organisationally and circulate the invitation widely. .

.

Date: December 8, 2011 1Time: 11 AM onwards IJantar Mantar, New Delhi .

RESIST THE ATTACK ON OUR SECULAR ETHOSit Friends 'NSUI"congratulates and appreciates. the initiatives of 'Sanskriti' in reviving the secular ethos of our campus.~ Any attack on this effort, as ma~ifested in SFI's parr:~hle1 yesterday will not bB to~erated by th_e .JNU community. All students of this campus are clearly aware that 1t IS the SFI that has been continually practJsmg a politics of polarisation on campus over the last few years, and naturally any efforts to redeem this and re-establish the secular traditions of the campus is thus no't tolerable for them. The NSUI and the Congress have always believed in the vision of secularism and pluralism that has been laid dow1, in the Constitution -the idea of~ Sarv Oharm Sambhaavft. This allows each and every citizen of the country the freedom to pursue his/ her own religious beliefs, and also allows people of different religions to enjoy religious occasions and ·festivals together, in order that greater communal harmony and interaction can be facilitated. All efforts to propagate such ideas of religious harmony, by whichever organisation on campus w111 be wholeheartedly supported by the NSUI. On the other hand, our Leftist comrades have always, like their friends in the RSS, used religion as a divisive tool to suit their needs and purposes, as and when required. lfthere is no harm in celebrating" Deepawali", as done by "Dastak" the cultural forum of the SFI and also " Sanskriti", why has the celebration of Roza-lftaar by "Sanskriti" caused the SFI to raise such a hue and cry? And friends, be sure, in the coming days, the likes of Yechury and Surjeet will certainly be seen in the lftaar circuit both as guest as well as host! The SFI and its parent organisation, the CPI (M) betray their hypocrisy on matters of religion at every level. They claim not to believe in religion and the Almighty, but the most common refrain heard from their lips is-"Thank God, I'm an atheist!" On the other hand, they do not hesitate to use religious occasions to further their own politics. Marxist stalls with their red flags flying high can be seen at many Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata, selling Marxist doctrines and propagating Marxist thought. Our friends in the SFI cannot deny this, because every year more than half of them leave the campus during the Pujas to go and run these stallsl The organising of the lftaar by "Sanskriti" on Monday is consistent with the vision and ideas of secularism and pluralism that the Congress Party believes in, and we reiterate once again that we will continue to support such social functions, be it of whichever religion. Each religion has two aspects: the ritual and the festive. The ritual aspect is personal, but the festive part allows people from all communities to interact, participate and enjoy togeiher. The celebration of Roza-lftaar does not In any manner impinge on our secular ethos but rather allows space for greater cultural and social interaction. It is not the Congress and the NSUI that has a history of compromise wil.h the communal forces. The students of the campus are aware of the dubious role played by our Marxist friends at different points of history -be it 1942, 1977, 1989, or even when their great comrade E.M.S. Namboodripad personally har.':"ed over the red brickS to the RSS for the construction of the Ram Temple-at all points they have proved that they are comrade~ in arms wrth the RSS. On the other hand, it is only the Congress that has ever dared to ban communal and fascist organisations like the RSS and the VHP. We therefore certainly do not need lessons from the hypocritical and opportunistic Left on issues of secularism. NSUI warns the SFI that any attempt to destroy the secular ethos of the campus will be opposed tooth and nail. We appeal t.o all progressive and democratic minded students of the campus not to be taken in by the nihilistic tactics of the SFI. We thank all the students who have endeavoured to foster an atmosphere of pluralism, secularism and democracy in the campus. .

NSUI IS DISTURBED AND DISGUSTED AT THE ACT OF SFI ACTIVIST, MD. MAROOF HUSSAIN WHO HAS BEEN FOUND TO HAVE INDULGED IN AN ACT OF CRIMINAL NATURE IN GETTING SIGNATURES FROM CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS ON THE BASIS OF FALSE DOCUMENTS. .

NSUI welcomes Prashant Kr. Singh, last year's convenor of the SIS in the JNUSU who has joined the NSUf. We are sure that his joining will further strengthen the organisation in the campus. .

Our Secularism long live!! .

1. I see a city with lots of cars driving around. It looks like it is a pretty gloomy day. You can see part of what looks like a bridge in the background with many buildings in the middle and foreground. I see a one way stop sign and it is a very dark painting with textures that make it look like it just got done raining.

2. There is definite repetition with the cars on the street. There is a horizontal line type that can be seen. There is a pattern with the multiple dark colors that can be seen. It looks like there could be some rectangle geometry with the road and the buildings. There is definitely depth because of all the stuff that is seen in the foregound, middleground, and background. The lighting helps to give you a kind of sad feeling and makes sense with all the dark colors.

3.I think the artist was trying to express how crowded cities can be sometimes and how the city looks when it is gloomy outside and has previously rained. It seems to tell kind of a sad story with how gloomy it is.

4. I really like this painting because i kind of like cities and in a way it reminds me of new york city. I also like how the gloominess is expressed because i kind of like it when it rains. If i could change anything in this painting i could try to create more movement throughout the painting so that is seems more intruiging.

Edifici d'origen medieval que durant els segles XVII i XVIII va ser transformat en edifici d'habitatges. Va ser construït pel baró de Vilagaià. Són, en realitat, tres edificis.

B/W Film #1.

I also shot B/W film. This, again, a new to me fim, Foma Ortho. It's ISO 400. I have to say, this is really nice. I don't know whether that was a suitable subject, but detail and contrast is good, as is the grain. But, here, I don't think you see the „ortho“ part...

1.I use lasso tool to cut out the person; 2 I change the background with move tool;3 I use lens flare effect 4 I use 3D effect to make the background 3 dimentional.

Favorite #1. I really like this photograph because I feel it really captures what was done. All the Knotweed is down but one last tall stock.

1. I took this photograph at my job at the nursing home, of the charge nurse. I picked this photo as my best one because I want to become a certifide nurse myself and this charge nurse enspires me alot.2. When I took this photo I decided to go without my flash and only use the natural florecent lighting of the office. When I shot the photo I was in a low body position and made sure the subject which was the nurse would be off center to get the entire view of the other objects around her and as I photographed her I was about three feet away as I took the photo shot.I zoomed my camera to 0331. JPG. As I read the entire chapter I noticed that it's a form of the curves line, as the nurses head was tipped as she was charting.
