Fifteen facts and thoughts about January 31, 2011...
1. I started a new schedule at work that results in needing to be at work an hour earlier than usual on most weekdays.
2. I decided to bring my bicycle to work.
3. I planned on riding from home to the bus, putting my bike on the two buses it takes to downtown and up the hill to work, and then later riding my bike home from work.
4. I had not been on my bike for quite a while. Weeks. Months. A long time.
5. I forgot to check whether my bike was ready for us to become reacquainted.
6. About halfway down the block, I realized that my front tire was a bit wonky.
7. I had no spare time to turn around and either address the tire issue or leave the bike at home. (See #1.)
8. I biked to the bus, then I walked my bike to work when I got up the hill later.
9. I remembered I had forgotten to put a bike pump back on my bike or back in my commuting bag.
10. I tried to pump my tire with a bike pump at work, but as soon as I realized that I was using the wrong kind of pump (wrong valve), I had inadvertently let most of the remaining air out of the tire.
11. It was a really cold day and even colder evening, so it ended up being a halfway nice thing that I had to walk my bike to the bus after work and take the bus to Fremont to meet my husband for dinner and a beer.
12. He's awesome and pumped my bike tire for me.
13. We biked home from Fremont to Ballard after dinner.
14. It was still cold, but at least I had someone to bike with.
15. I am fairly confident I will be more prepared with an adequate bike pump at the ready for similar instances in the future!

I had picked up a little red plastic Ikon Catch 4 from the thrift store for $1. I ran a roll of Kodak Gold 200 through it today - just random snaps around town, which I find to be a lot of fun sometimes. The camera takes 4 exposures on a single frame with each press of the shutter. It starts top left and goes counter clockwise!

Universitats-kirche (Kollegienkirche) - University / College Church)
The high altar, created about 1740 by Anton Pfaffinger, symbolizes Proverbs ix:1 (Wisdom has built a house for itself and has hewn out seven pillars.) The decorative stucco work was done by Diego Francesco Carlone and Paolo D'Allio. This church is one of the most important specimens of the Austrian and, consequently, of the European baroque style.
Simon Flavius' favorite toy of all times is a big wadded up brown grocery bag. And not just any old wadded up brown grocery bag. It has to be BIG. Like, bigger than his own head. And then he carries it around with him all day.
Yellowstone Day 1. I had a few hours to kill while waiting for the rest of my group to arrive so I visited the Grizzly Encounter near Bozeman. This is home to Brutus, a grizzly bear, who has starred in a few documentaries for Discovery Channel and National Geographic. His trainer, Casey Anderson, was not there that day.

"I can only imagine what it will be like, when I walk by Your side...
I can only imagine, what my eyes will see, when Your Face is before me!
I can only imagine. I can only imagine.
Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still?
Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing 'Hallelujah!'? Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!
I can only imagine, when that day comes, when I find myself standing in the Son!
I can only imagine, when all I will do, is forever, forever worship You!
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!
Yeah! I can only imagine!
Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still?
Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing 'Hallelujah!'? Will I be able to speak at all?

My Books set
Hello various members of the Flickr community! These are just a few facts about me.
1. I turned 13 this Monday
2. I'm home schooled
3. I make mostly mechs and figs, i am not that great at building scenes
4. Minifig cat is my favorite 3rd party vendor
5. Nobody probably recognizes me from any forums *sigh* forever alone... :P
6. My favorite theme is LotR
7. Ummmmmmm.... I think that's it
I have been to a lot of movies lately.
1. Borat
2. Stranger than Fiction
3. For Your Consideration
4. Little Children
By New York City ticket prices, that is about $45 in movies.
I took this while waiting for Shannon, who was accompanying me to Little Children (now with more naked Patrick Wilson than ever!). I got nachos, because I'm twelve. The woman sitting next to me came in late and left her bags at the front of the theater. This would have been okay, though weird, except that she also left her phone on, and it rang. Twice.
I liked the movie, though both Shannon and I found it to be painful and depressing in theme. It was based on a book by Joe Perotta, who also wrote the book that was made into Election. According to the Internet, Joe Perotta writes "satire." I think Joe Perotta actually writes "the depressing and occasionally funny truth." The heighted situations he creates are really not all that heighted, just perverse. For that we can thank America.
A 1959 Uncirculated Chon in my collection. For $1, I bought a coin from one of the most isolated countries in the world. 1 Chon is 1/100th of a North Korean won, and it doesn't get around much. The DPRK emblem resembles those of PRC fen coins.
Snow... once as common during southern scandinavian winters as sunshine in the summer, but increasingly becoming a rare phenomenon, only seen once or twice per season.
On this january day of 2014, the white stuff paid a visit in the shape of a near-blizzard, and for a short while brought back memories of old days.
Bjørnbaksvej 1, the former people's highschool founded by one of Viby's most famous citizens, Lars Bjørnbak (1824-1878) in 1857. Nowadays, the building houses a kindergarten.
Film from last Trip 1
I finished the digital frames, now comes the fun part: FILM.
I shot several rolls of both B/W and CN film. These are from Orwo NC500 color film. Under the cold, dull light it gives very „subtle“ negatives, I boosted them more than usual because of that. Basically I didn't really have a idea how to process, so just played and tried some things. More to come!

The Colțea Church is a Romanian Orthodox church located at 1 I. C. Brătianu Boulevard, just off University Square in Bucharest, Romania.
It is dedicated to the Three Holy Hierarchs.
The church was once at the center of the Colțea Monastery, also called Trisfetitele, a folk name for its patron saints.
The complex also included the Colțea Hospital, three chapels, other annexes and, at the entrance, the Tower of Colțea.
A statue of the ktetor, Spătar Mihai Cantacuzino, stands in front of the church and hospital.
To the south of the current church, a wooden church and several cells were built by the Sluger Udrea around 1641-1642, and dedicated to Paraskeva of the Balkans.
Mentioned in a 1658 document, it was willed to his brother, the High Clucer Colțea Doicescu, who placed it under the authority of the Metropolis of Ungro-Wallachia.
The church was mentioned as early as 1702.
In 1770, logothete Necula Mănescu added a second portico, according to that year’s pisanie; it was placed in front of the large extant one.
The addition was removed in 1888; a trace of the connecting structure can be seen above the arches of the remaining portico.
After the 1838 earthquake, repairs followed in 1841. The interior was painted by Gheorghe Tattarescu in 1871.
Painted panels alternate with motifs and imitation-marble decorations. The donor portrait on the western wall of the narthex depicts Mihai Cantacuzino and his wife Maria.
Repairs carried out in 1895 involved removing the exterior plaster, beneath which were discovered red and black frescoes covering the church, attributed to Pârvu Mutu.
Following the 1944 bombardment, the church was consolidated in 1949.
The bell tower above the narthex was reconstituted in 1950-1955.
Further restoration began in 1996.
The church was closed by the communist regime between 1986 and 1989.
It served as a place of refuge during the Romanian Revolution; the parish priest rang its bells on the night of 21-22 December, both in joy and as a warning of danger.
A memorial cross was placed close by in memory of those killed on the spot.
The church is listed as a historic monument.
New family member; Day 1. I wasn't, really, a small dog person.. but resources and opportunity have limited my options. Dizzie, kind of, fell into my lap... a blessing in disguise. She's 12 pounds of muscle; no joke. Flawko's Doggie Boot Camp is now in session!! Miko's my assistant.
Things I Would Like to Accomplish
1. I hope to ride my bicycle alongside the length of the Mississippi River.
2. I hope to ride my bicycle from coast to coast.
3. I want to return to Salzburg, Austria.
4. I want to travel to Mexico and Spain with Ginger.
5. I want to learn to speak Russian.
6. I want to see humans on the surface of Mars.
7. I want to see the surface of Mars firsthand. (Admittedly, this probably won't happen.)
8. I want to run for the local public library board.
9. When I retire, I want to run for a local school board.
10. I want to visit more major league baseball parks.
11. I want to write a play. (I have had an idea for five years and I just can't write the first line.)
12. When I die, I want to donate my body to science. (I figure I have devoted my life to teaching others. Why should I let death stop that?)
13. I want to live long enough to see my kids grow up, happy and healthy, fall in love, and have families of their own...so I can laugh at them. >:)
Why?
1. This photo works for this assignment because it demonstrates shape using the negative space between the zucchini slices.
2. I chose to take this photo because we recently talked about negative space. To put that to use, I thought that it would be a good idea to include it in this project.
What?
1. I sliced three zucchini discs and cut a triangle out of them. I arranged them on top of a wooden chopping board so they look like they're making a triangle.
2. I used the principles contrast (the green zucchini against the darker brown wood), unity (the slices forming a triangle), and emphasis (the zucchini drawing eye towards the focal point, which is the negative space in the middle.
3. To make this photo better, I could probably add in more principles.
4. I feel like my biggest strength in this project is the use of negative space to create a sort of illusion.
I've had the Celtic Tote on my Ravelry queue for ages and finally decided to give it a go. Learnt a number of things:
1. I have real difficulty reading charts. I lose my place, forget what the symbols mean and eventually I had to write each line out and follow it that way!
2. Read ahead before you dive into the pattern, that way I would have avoided missing two cast offs at the bag edge that I later had to go back to and cut pieces out of and sew back together to fix!
3. Cables really aren't that difficult, just a bit fiddly sometimes.
I had some green wool that was a bit on the scratchy side for clothes and I thought a little on the thin side for the bag so holding two strands together I embarked on the adventure! It knit up pretty quickly too. I used some handspun dark brown wool to outline the cables and then set to and sewed the whole beastie together!
Much heartened by the magnificance of it all I then popped it into the wash and prayed it wouldn't come out the size of a coin purse!
Of course it didn't and once it was dry I raided my fabric stash, found a really nice bright olive cotton and hey presto! we have a lined felted bag with intricate (well, for me it was!) cables on both sides and the strap. I am brilliant!!
STA-1
I was at Green Cay early today and it felt like I was just taking my camera for a walk. The place was dead. I decided to go into the archives to look for something to post. Here is an American Bittern from a trip to Stormwater Treatment Area - 1 a few years ago.
Best viewed large on black.
1. I like the window pouring light all onto the room.
I dislike how grainy some of the photo came out. I tried to cover it with photoshop in the darker area.
3. I would have liked to set a nicer stage for the next photo.
At about 1 hour vaporetto drive from Venice you can stroll through the small fishing islet of Burano where during the day tourists outnumber locals by 5 to 1. I didn't see too much evidence of fishing activities going on. However there is a leaning church tower in the village centre and the houses seem to have had fresh paint job all at the same time.
1. I chose to have the cheesecake and leaves as the dominant subjects in this photo. The viewer’s eye is drawn to this area which then pulls you through the rest of the image. This was shot horizontally to give a calm and serene feel to the photo. The camera’s point of view was low in order to place the focus on the foreground of the photo and blur the background. The leaves and cup are placed on the rule of thirds.
2. A mouthwatering, colorful piece of cherry red cheesecake beckons your name that is garnished with greenery for added texture and contrast to my composition. The white ceramic cup and polished metal fork offers a nice texture difference from the cheesecake, also. The sharpness of the colors on the cheesecake and the softened background created the shallow depth of field that I was trying to achieve.
3. This picture was taken early evening, but was fairly dark outside so did not have the advantage of natural light from the window. I used lighting from my dining room which was diffused by shades to create a softer glow on my composition. If I was to do this photo over, I would have added more light to put a focus on the green leaves which would have offered an extra little zest to the image and my focal point. There was a green plant in the background, but that did not show up because of the lighting inadequacy.
4. My F stop was at 2.8 to create a shallow depth of field (small F stop = small depth of field). The ISO was 200 and my white balance was set at cloudy with focal length at 6 mm. These settings allowed me to focus sharply on the green leaves and cheesecake and blur the background. I manually focused to help achieve this shallow depth of field, also. The biggest technical challenge was that I did not have a tripod and could have added more lighting to create an even greater interest on the cheesecake and green leaves. It was a technical challenge to start using settings that I had never touched on my camera until now, so the time involved with this photo was intense.
5. In Chapter 2 of our weekly reading, Ansel Adams used the term previsualizing. The idea behind this is to plan ahead of time what you want to photograph and allow yourself the opportunity to nurture some creativity into your photo. It may not always turn out how you envision, but the idea is to have some sort of plan or a visual goal for what might inspire you the greatest. So, when the requirement for this photo was to include a coffee cup, I immediately knew my plan. Our local high school does a fundraiser every year for the music department. It is called “Ditties and Desserts” which features local youth singing, dancing and playing instruments to a gathering of family and friends. Their paid admission not only treats them to a variety of music by their talented loved ones, but also to a delectable piece of high calorie, beautiful desserts and coffee. I believe this photo tells a story of great music, great food and great conversation. This was my first experience with adjusting settings on my camera, and I spent an enormous amount of time perfecting this photo.

A tip of the sou'wester to Stephen Shepard for the idea (http://www.bychoiceman.com/2008/01/kayak-camera-mount-monopod.html)
I've tweaked his design in two ways:
1. I've added a lasso lanyard at the bottom that loops around a deck cleat to prevent loss overboard at sea.
2. I've added a lanyard for the camera to prevent loss while screwing or unscrewing it to the pan head. Note that I've put two female halves of the snap clips on the lanyard the camera came with: this allows me to clip the camera to the male clip on my PFD lanyard BEFORE unclipping it from the monopod for hand-held shots (or vise-versa). Thus there's no point in the transfer where the camera is not attached to me or the monopod. So it can't be dropped overboard and I can grab my paddle to brace at any point.

Finally, a year and a half later, the Apex-Class Helios MK III is finally complete! All this time and it just needed some finishing touches.
Named after the Roman god of the sun, with a fiery orange and yellow color scheme, broken up by gray. Overloaded with thrusters in the feet, calves, waist, shoulders, and especially the huge jetpack, this mech is meant to take to the skies and space. Equipped with duel-wielded energy Rayguns that double as physical swords and shoulder SSAM-4 missile pods, the Helios MK III is an Apex-Class mecha ready for nearly anything in low-gravity battles. Standing at 15 inches (38.1 cm) tall, this MOC is quite heavy, and the largest mech I've ever built with Lego.
Initially built concurrently with my Lego Transformers Armada Optimus Prime, the Apex-Class Helios MK III proof-of-concept prototype was thrown together just one month before Brickworld Chicago 2023. Building extremely last-minute, I worked late into the night on-site at the convention hall the first few days of being there, and made it presentable just in time for award judging.
After almost not bringing it all, it ended up being well worth it in the end. I still managed to get it Nominated for Best Mecha (basically top 5 out of everything there). I would not have beat the winner of that competition even if the Helios had been thoroughly finished at the time, but still proud to get my first Nomination award nonetheless.
The Apex-Class Helios MK III was the culmination of multiple mech-building challenges at once:
#1: I wanted to push the limits and make my biggest mech ever while still maintaining full articulation with the new heavier ratchet joint pieces that Lego has made the past couple years.
#2 I wanted to make it flashy and attention-grabbing with the orange and yellow accent color scheme that I usually would not use.
#3: I wanted to build it using more interesting parts and building techniques. This mech uses up to 10 brick separators and integrates them into the armor very well, among other things.
Thank the Lord, this rushed project had turned out to be a massive success. I'm so glad that I can now officially share it with the world.
1) I'm taking this class because it looked like the most interesting choice for an art credit for an AA degree.
2) My goal is to have a job in the field of ecology or forestry.
3) In this class, I expect to learn more about how to create things using computers. I have used photoshop to edit pictures, but I've never actually created a picture.
