Westminster S.W.1.

I was thrilled to find this one.

I've been tagged. You know who you are :)

Jeez... I left out liking sunsets, storms, lightning, thunder, bugs, amphibians, reptiles, orchids, iris, roses, photographs, history... and the smile and laugh of a woman...

1.I’ve actually sold a painting I did. I should have kept it. As an artist I would have starved a long time ago though. But I will try again someday.

2.I’ve been writing a book for the past year or so… I hope to have it finished this year. Some of it actually makes sense thus far…

3.My son has held my life in his hands on many occasions, as I have his while climbing. How many men can say that literally?

4.I admire men like Alvin York, Theodore Roosevelt, and my Dad.

5.I enjoy the company of people with dreams and stories. So many of the people we walk by have the most extraordinary tales!

6.I love to laugh. Whether by Monty Python or Mark Twain, a sharp wit is greatly appreciated!

7.I believe you must read critically. A lot. Preferably from books you own. By that, I mean, that you are willing to put your money where your mind is…

8.I often dream in color… I am no stranger to colorful language either.

9.I keep my hand on my wallet with both Republicans and Democrats. Man is a political animal, as Aristotle once said. Therefore, one still must keep a wary eye on those that believe they know a better way to run your life.

10.I believe there is both good and evil. I have seen evidence of both.

11.A child’s pain is my Achilles heel. I can’t stand the sight of that pain.

12.I believe a man without faith is a man without hope.

13.I believe everyone should know a tune, a poem, a quote, a joke and a prayer. Be prepared for life.

14.I love my family, my friends, and my country, and have no qualms about fighting for any of them at any cost. The choice between self-defense and submission is an easy one for me.

15.I have been loved and hated. Sometimes in the same day :)

16.Whenever I am alone, I know someone cares about me.

"The Big Reach" is art because it is a photograph of a sunflower reaching toward the non-existant sun at the hour the photo was taken. The position of the sunflower in the night is ironic because of its reach toward the sky even though it lacks the necessary nutrition that the flower needs at this time of day.

The reaction that the artist requires of the viewer is viewing the subject in a new perspective rather than the traditional aerial view. Because sunflowers are so tall, it is hard to get this perspective but it is important to view each part of the flowering plant. Each part of the plant (the leaves, the stem) make the beautiful flower bloom. This art changes depending on your perspective because as the viewer moves from left to right and top to bottom as new perspective is found whether it be the view of the flower itself of a leaf of the plant. The falling leaves are like a staircase toward a heaven that the flower represents.

I just love this picture because (1) I love flowers and (2) the metaphors that can be made from the photograph itself.

I was tagged by Erin.

I figured I'd try and make this a good one since I can't see myself doing it again.

10 Facts:

1) I have sensory issues, but only when it comes to touch. I tend to have bouts of being extra sensitive to the touch and feel of certain things (mainly with my hands). It doesn't hurt, it just isn't pleasant, but I've learned to "deal" with it.

2) Thunderstorms scare me.

3) I learned to drive 3 years ago at the age of 23.

4) I have a really good memory. I don't know how it works. I compare it to a rolodex. My brain just spins until it lands on the card that pertains to the situation I'm in. I'll remeber things in detail. Sometimes I don't know the memory is there until something triggers it.

5) That being said I have a habit of misplacing the most common things. The remote, my keys and wallet (doesn't everyone though?). I'm doing my best to get better at that by always putting them in the same spot.

6) My son is what made me pick up a camera.

7) I have 10 tattoos.

8) I have a ridiculously large amount of extended family and I love it.

9) I was going to be named Antonietta, but when my mother saw my full head of dark black hair she was reminded of Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) from All My Children. I am eternally grateful.

10) I found the one... or rather, she found me.

After the unsuccessful trial of the Max Factor Eye Brightening mascara, I decided to try another mascara to see if it did what it said on the label. And this one from The Body Shop did. It’s call Big and Curvy Waterproof mascara, but you can also get a non-waterproof version.

As soon as I applied the mascara, my eyes popped! They looked bright, and my eyelashes looked long and curvy with just one layer. My eyes completely drew in focus and attention, without primer or colour-brightening gimmicks. Furthermore, it glided on smoothly, it didn’t clump at all, and it didn’t smudge. It also curved my eyelashes evenly, and created a nice eyeliner effect on my upper eyelid.

However the most amazing thing is how waterproof this mascara actually is – so I decided I would test it. Day 1 I applied the mascara, and it stayed put despite heavy rain and wind outside. Sleeping in this mascara didn’t leave panda eyes in the morning, and even after washing my face and having a shower the mascara stayed neatly on my eyelashes. I rubbed my eyes a lot forgetting I had mascara on, but it didn’t leave black flakes on my cheeks. Even cooking and being over steaming pots didn’t shift the mascara. During Day 3 the mascara was beginning to wear quite thin and need another coat. This makes the mascara extremely reliable, despite the weather, or even during cooking or showering. It also means that you could skip a day of putting on mascara, so this tube could potentially last you twice as long. Yet it also comes off easily with make-up removing lotion or pads.

I really like that this mascara does exactly what it says on the label. It’s £10, but with a Body Shop loyalty card you can get 10% off. Sign up to their newsletters and they frequently have 20-50% off, making this mascara an absolute bargain!

I think it was a kit (can't remember) and it was an AM tuner - so medium wave only .... but good enough for Radio Luxembourg and the fledgling BBC Radio 1. I wired it into the amplifier of my mono record player .... to take to Uni. Sort of (even for the time)'low-tech' functionality, but it worked surprisingly well.

(•) – The-Lockheed-Martin-HC-130-P-Hercules-The-Combat-K.I.N.G-1-I-is an extended-range version of the C-130 Hercules transport. HC-130 crews provide expeditionary, all weather personnel recovery capabilities to our Combatant Commanders and Joint/Coalitions partners worldwide.

Mission

The mission of the HC-130P/N "King" is to rapidly deploy to austere airfields and denied territory in order to execute , all weather personnel recovery operations anytime...anywhere. King crews routinely perform high and low altitude personnel & equipment airdrops, infiltration/exfiltration of personnel, helicopter air-to-air refueling, and forward area refueling point missions.

When tasked, the aircraft also conducts humanitarian assistance operations, disaster response, security cooperation/aviation advisory, emergency aeromedical evacuation, casualty evacuation, noncombatant evacuation operations, and, during the Space Shuttle program, space flight support for NASA.

Features

Modifications to the HC-130P/N are improved navigation, threat detection and countermeasures systems. The aircraft fleet has a fully-integrated inertial navigation and global positioning systems, and night vision goggle, or NVG, compatible interior and exterior lighting. It also has forward-looking infrared, radar and missile warning receivers, chaff and flare dispensers, satellite and data-burst communications.

The HC-130 can fly in the day; however, crews normally fly night at low to medium altitude levels in contested or sensitive environments, both over land or overwater. Crews use NVGs for tactical flight profiles to avoid detection to accomplish covert infiltration/exfiltration and transload operations. To enhance the probability of mission success and survivability near populated areas, crews employ tactics that include incorporating no external lighting or communications, and avoiding radar and weapons detection.

Drop zone objectives are done via personnel drops and equipment drops. Rescue bundles include illumination flares, marker smokes and rescue kits. Helicopter air-to-air refueling can be conducted at night, with blacked out communication with up to two simultaneous helicopters. Additionally, forward area refueling point operations can be executed to support a variety of joint and coalition partners.

Background

The HC-130P/N is the only dedicated fixed-wing combat search and rescue platform in the Air Force inventory. The 71st and 79th Rescue Squadrons in Air Combat Command, the 550th Special Operations Squadron in Air Education and Training Command, the 920th Rescue Group in Air Force Reserve Command and the 106th Rescue Wing, 129th RQW and 176th Wing in the Air National Guard operate the aircraft.

First flown in 1964, the aircraft has served many roles and missions. It was initially modified to conduct search and rescue missions, provide a command and control platform, in-flight-refuel helicopters and carry supplemental fuel for extending range and increasing loiter time during search operations.

In April 2006, the continental U.S. search and rescue mission was transferred back to Air Combat Command at Langley AFB, Va. From 2003 to 2006, the mission was under the Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla. Previously, HC-130s were assigned to ACC from 1992 to 2003. They were first assigned to the Air Rescue Service as part of Military Airlift Command.

They have been deployed to Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey in support of operations Southern and Northern Watch, Allied Force, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. HC-130s also support continuous alert commitments in Alaska and the Horn of Africa.

1. I like to run. I have too much energy for my own good so I started marathon running and so far that’s been doing me well.

2. I like to hang out with people. Not sure if you can call that a hobby, but it’d be mine if it could be one.

3. I have an interest in technology. I like making computers do things I tell them to. I don’t like it when your computer’s being a whore and you need me to help you with it.

4. I talk to myself frequently, especially when left alone for too long. If I’m left alone for too long I’d go pretty nuts. Not Jack Nicholson nuts, Bart Simpson when he had a cast nuts.

5. It drives me mental when people print things unnecessarily, like emails. Printers are for things like recipes (unless you have a saran-wrap covered computer in the kitchen or something) or directions/map (if you’re without a GPS/PDA).

6. I go to the local pub at least once a week... setting myself up to be one of those old dudes who goes to the pub for breakfast on Sundays and doesn’t leave ‘til the match is done.

7. I once threw my shoe at a raccoon. True story.

8. I can’t concentrate when I’m too hot. If it’s too hot at work I might as well go home because I won’t get anything done there and it’s a nice 19 degrees here.

9. It confuses me when people tape flowers and wreaths to telephone poles because their loved ones died near them on the road. If I die in a car accident, plant a tree in a nice garden and think about me there not by the side of a highway with trucks chugging by.

10. If you didn’t have to pay a mortgage you could get by on very little cash.

11. Don’t ask me, ask Google. It doesn’t get irritated or snippy with you when you ask a stupid question. Just don’t type google into Google...

12. I over think everything formal. (Letters, occasions, government forms, meetings, etc...)

13. I don’t think at all socially. Thought to mouth in under 2 milliseconds.

14. I don’t want to be around when the hills come alive to the sound of music and conquer Berlin.

15. Robert Service the poet is my great great great great great great great great great uncle. Robert Service the teacher is my uncle, who is incidentally also great.

16. I like to go camping and fishing but find it hard to find the time to go. Cottages are so much easier and girls will come with you.

Well, I was told to type ten facts...

Here goes...

1. I try to support others with their dreams when I sometimes don't even support my own.

2. I almost always tend to write too much for any assignment at school or any comment/message online.

3. I always thought that I had tons of close friends... it seems like the list gets shorter and shorter everyday.

4. I try to stay in good athletic shape and appearance but I am not an athlete.

5. I always go crazy after someone keeps repeatedly making me angry. Most people never REALLY see me get mad...

6. I go to a private "christian" school where everyone poses to be something they're not.

7. I dream to one day be remembered. I want to do something with my life.

8. I am left handed.

9. I very recently took up playing the Electric Bass Guitar.

10. I always find myself thinking... staring off into space just in the perplexities of my bewildering thought patterns. I mainly wonder about life itself and why others give up on their dreams.

I am not at all shocked that I completed this list. One day I'll do a 1,000 item list.

Then you'll know me better than my family does...

LOL!

Euphorbia dendroides L.

Tree Spurge, DE: Baumartige Wolfsmilch, Baum-Wolfsmilch, CR: drvolika mljećika

Slo.: no name.

Dat.: Apr. 25. 2016

Lat.: 35.55908 Long.: 23.60272

Code: Bot_950/2016_DSC1649

Habitat: stony mountain ravine close to sea shore, calcareous ground, full sun, warm place, south to east aspect, elevation 270 m (890 feet); average precipitations ~ 960 mm/year, average temperature about 18 deg C, Mediterranean phytogeographical region.

Substratum: soil among rocks.

Place: Northwest Crete, mountain ravine half way to Balos, east side of peninsula Korykos, Island Crete, Greece EC.

Comment: Genus Euphorbia is huge. All kind of imaginable plants constitute it. In North and Central Europe they are mostly small and herbaceous and more to the south one goes, more species are woody, bush and tree like. Many of them are very beautiful, either from the standpoint of colors or shapes of leaves or their unusually built flowers.

Euphorbia dendroides is spread in all Mediterranean countries except Cyprus. It is one of the most beautiful woody species. Particularly the colors of their flowers and leaves, which are yellow and green in early spring, impress. Toward the end of springtime when higher and higher temperatures and drought push forth they change their color to all kind of orange, red, wine red, brown-violet, before they fall off in summer. Large, up to 2.5 m high, rounded bushes, often forming large colonies in more or less barren rocky mountain slopes turn to marvelous vistas. My trip to this steep, wild, incredible thorny, trail-less ravine of peninsula Korykos in northwest Crete was an unforgettable experience

This is my wishlist. Not in any particular order. Except for number 1.

1. I want to be healthy. Now and in the future. I am tired of feeling pain all the time. I have a Plantar fasciitis in my right foot and it causes me to limp. And limping gives me severe backpain. I want to live without medication.

2. I want a pet mouse. Or two. Me and my BF are both very allergic to animals. We would looove a dog but this will never happen so we thought a mouse would be great. The are small and cute.

3. I want to travel. All over. Everywhere!!!

4. I want to live by the sea one day. I love the sea. Couldn't breathe without it.

5. I want love in my life. I'm in love and want to be the this way for the rest of my life.

6. I want peace. Not only world peace but I want to live a peacefull life without any hurry. I want to be able to sit down and breathe and live without timetables. I'm able to do this right now and I want it to stay this way.

7.More Blythes! Very simple wish ;)

8. I want a kid one day. If I won't be able to have one then I want all the kids in the world to be loved as much as I would love a one of my own.

9. I want to write and illustrate a children's book. From start to finish.

That's it. Very simple wishes. Now I tag everyone. :)

I've been looking forward to trying this shot all day long, and I never had the chance to do it during daylight hours. So I finally get home around 10:30 pm or so, and have resigned myself to using one of my spinning photos for today's 365. But after I saw how much fun it looked like everyone over at FGR was having, I just couldn't go to bed without trying!

30 jumps later, here I am. Sore ankles, tired knees, an achy back, sweaty and out of breath...but I'm not complaining, mind you, I learned a lot about myself during this shoot:

1. I am older than I like to think I am.

2. I am not as svelt as I am in my head.

3. Despite the fact that I do not train on a regular basis, I am still not athletic.

Y'know, one of the recurring messages that keeps popping up in my life is to not take myself too seriously; card readers, palm readers, fortune cookies, even mystical cab drivers...the message keeps coming back. I think being part of this 365 group, and this creative and supportive online community is helping me change that, slowly but surely: God knows, 3 weeks ago I would have NEVER posted some of the things I've put up here.

I just hope I don't end up in traction before the year is up!

Trying to get to Firstsite in Colchester, I was heading around Priory Street through Priory Street Car Park when I saw these Roman Walls. But there was no entrance to get through here to go Firstsite.

So ended up going all the way around to East Hill and High Street before finding the road to Firstsite.

Colchester Town Walls

The wall follows the curve of Priory Street, past the ruins of St Botolph's Priory (English Heritage), in the south east corner of Roman Colchester. You can easily see Roman bricks built into the ruined priory arches and walls. The wall is not in a very good through this section, but there are several medieval bastions (small projecting towers) built into the thickness of the wall. The bastions were erected at the time of the Peasant's Revolt in 1380. This was an era of great social unrest; nearby St John's Abbey gatehouse was built after the abbey was attacked by peasant rebels, and the town authorities obviously feared further outbreaks of violence. This section of wall was heavily damaged in the Civil War Siege of Colchester and 1648, and was repaired with profuse use of red brick.

I

2. Probably of the late C3. Originally some 3,100 yds in length, forming a rectangle of about 1,000 yds east-west, and 510 yds north-south with rounded corners. Traceable throughout except in the south-west corner where it was much damaged by the 1648 siege. The 3 most important visible lengths are on Balkerne Hill on the west including the Balkerne Gate (qv), in the Castle Park on the north including the north-east Postern Gate and the great vaulted drain under, and the south-east corner in Priory Street.

Built of layers of septaria, interspersed with 4-fold course of brick, the lowest course going right through the wall, with a core of rubble and cement. Considerable lengths of the wall still reach a height of 15 ft, and it is on average 8 ft thick.

The wall was strengthened in each corner and where it was met by the internal streets by an internal solid tower the base of one can be seen in the stretch on Balkerne Hill. The wall was extensively repaired during the reign of Richard II, 1389-1399 when it was strengthened by the addition of external semi-circular solid bastions, 4 of these remain in Priory Street. The wall was further considerably damaged in the 1648 seige, there is much brick patching in evidence in Priory Street, dating probably from the early C18.

Post cards from Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary, from the first half of the 20th century.

A további építkezések a II. világháború utáni időre esnek. Az intézmény fejlesztésében és a gyógyító munkában egyaránt kiemelkedő dr. Imre József mellszobrát (Pásztor János alkotása) a parkban helyezték el 1928-ban. A kórház kiváló orvosainak (ifj. Imre József, Ormos Pál, Deutsch Béla) emlékét márványtábla őrzi a sebészeti épület falán.

3- After you're done, tag all your friends!"

I was tagged by Blablette. Well, first time I make this kind of thing. It was pretty long, but fun. :P

1. I am a student in materials sciences.

2. I draw since I am really young. When I was little, my mother bathed us at 17h00 and then put us in front of a big pen box with paper. Every day.

3. I looooove waffles.

4. I play the flute in an amateur orchestra but it's really fun.

5. I don't like salads in general, but I plan to taste all the fishes in the world (except whales and sharks maybe... -_-).

6. I like BJDs since two years, but I like to make them even more.

7. I am not a very sociable person. I am shy and unable to discuss very long with someone who doesn't share any of my interests.

8. As a respected materials student, my favorite hobby beside art is to break things with big machines.

9. I procastinate very often.

10. I only came back to art since 2008. I had lost the interest when I was in junior high.

11. I am gonna make a field trip in July with my pals from university in Japan!

12. The bunch of drawings you see in the picture is only a half of what I made in three years. The rest I gave away or don't like it any more or is not finished.

13. I don't sell bookmarks at my boot in Japan conventions but I make new one every years, so I can give them away afterward.

14. I am definitively attempting resin cast this summer.

15. When I am on a project, I am like a cave woman: I foget to make my hair and sometime to eat.

16. I have two sisters. Most of the time, they are a pain, but sometimes we can get along very well.

17. I love manga, and especially anime. Yes. I'm such a kid.

18. I want to read Da Vinci code since its release, but still haven't.

19. I wish I would work soon.

20. I don't like to swim, and water things in general. I am not comfortable with water (except hot bathes :P).

Assignment 6. This is version 1, I need to reshoot to get the foreground right, the monkey hand is behind the cutout I made of the painting.

This image was inspired by the painting 'The Death of Chatterton', by Henry Wallis (commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Henry_Wallis_-_Chatterton...) and The Pixies song (www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALjSXspCpko&feature=fvst). With thanks to T15JTW for lending the monkey.

I printed out 2 copies of the painting one with a 10% reduction which I cut out to make the foreground chest & coat. I used some material scraps to make the bed and pillow and arranged the monkey in a suitably tragic pose. I used a torch and home-made snoot to create the effect of light coming through the 'windows'. It was fun to shoot :)

I ran across this cool old light bulb while looking for something else.

Here's everything I know about it:

1) I remember buying it in New Jersey.

2) It was sold in a plain cardboard box advertised as an "Edison Light Bulb." It certainly has a hand blown globe. I assumed at the time that it was a replica, and that I could screw it in and give everyone a good yuk. I assumed wrong in both cases, because it is not a replica, and:

3) The filament is busted.

4. "Mazda" was the Edison/GE trade name licensed to anyone making Edison spec bulbs with a standard base and a tungsten filament. Edison didn't invent the light bulb; he perfected it. There's also a GE trademark on the bulb, but it's pretty faded.

5. I just did a bunch of Google on the subject. The bulb is old (ca. 1920). Common and basically worthless (not that I'd EVER sell it), but old.
