2019-09-02, Day 1

Crow Lake catches noon-day sun beneath towering cliffs that reach up to a high-elevation plateau, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, Montana.

At this point we had been hiking for almost 4 hours on our first day and the terrain conspired to teach us in no uncertain terms that we had severely underestimated its ruggedness. In a fit of questionable planning, the point where I stand is the end of the established trail in this direction, and also where we decided it would be a good idea to chart our own middle-aged course through the forest, up the drainage, and over an unnamed pass to the south. The benefits we anticipated included a general lack of company, spectacular scenery, and a considerable short-cut compared to the route the trail followed.

As the forest to the left of the frame suggests, it is healthy and full of interlocking branches and downed logs. As one might imagine, travel through its fastness is only grudgingly allowed. As I inspect my pack some months later, I am still finding needles lodged in every crevice. Fortunately, it is difficult to truly get lost in terrain like this, as the drainage provides a sort of topographic braille through which we felt our way ever upward away from the lake and toward the treeless heights. The final approach to the pass was steep, probably around 35 degrees, and we paused occasionally for breath and to feel the body humming perceptibly with exertion. Yes, next time more care will be taken in the physical preparation department...

This is the third of my challenges taking place at my brand new, bigger parcel, also named Noshinima's Neighborhood. This setup was a nightmare to work on, and after weeks of work and a lot of lindens spend, I have finally came up with a new challenge for all of you and it is now ready for visitors. This is a new concept I am showcasing on my Flickr, where I challenge 50 great artists to do a photo shoot in the backdrop I created at my home sim.

For the third challenge, I created a large New York style city block, complete with all the different types of retail store outlets you would find at in your typical downtown scroll along downtown. There are clothing stores, supermarkets, pizzerias flower shops and all types of different settings that can be potentially found in just one city block. This also comes with a fairly realistic street view complete with cars and trucks. I am challenging the names tagged in this post to do a shoot within my city block anywhere they like and however they like.

Rules and details:

1) I (Noshinima Midas) tag 50 names of great photographers on Second Life. Said photographers that choose to participate in the challenge can come over to my parcel, Noshinima's Neighborhood (link below) and do an image anywhere in my city. You will be allowed two hours to use any posestands or props that you would like to add and are allowed to bring any friends you want to join you in your shoot. You are also allowed to make the shoot as safe or as adult as you like. The only rule is that you do the shoot within the city block. Take your time to have a look around to see where in the block would make a great place for your image.

2) Upload the finished image onto Flickr and place the hashtag #NoshsHoodChallenge3 on either the title or the description.

3) YOU MUST TAG 10 PEOPLE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE TAKE THIS CHALLENGE ON YOUR UPLOAD OF YOUR SHOOT! NO MORE, NO LESS! I have had several people during previous challenges that have not followed this simple rule so I am making it ALLCAPS to get the point across. Link them to this post and explain the rules to them as well. They must also tag 10 of their friends that they would like to see do this challenge if they themselves choose to participate as well. You must tag people that are actual active photographers on Second Life. Tagging pages dedicated to advertising a store, tagging real life photographers and tagging empty profiles does not count and is against the rules. Also, although you are permitted to do this if you desire, tagging me and tagging yourself will not count towards the number of 10 photographers you are tagging.

I am available every day. If anyone has any questions, comments or would like help in their shoots, be sure to contact me on Flickr or Second Life.

To everyone tagged, remember that once you do the shoot from the city, you must tag 10 names that you would also like to see do this challenge and use the hashtag #NoshsHoodChallenge3

Here is the link to the city block:

maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Willow%20Grove/229/58/534

Just a disclaimer. This is not a contest. It is simply a challenge for anyone to use my parcel in their photography as they see fit. Use any creative tactics you choose.

PS. The images shown on this post are pictures taken from the city block as examples of what my parcel looks like. I will post them all individually soon as examples of shoots done at my parcel.

Good luck to all those that choose to participate in the challenge. I am looking to see your creativity on display within the city block.

Love,

Noshinima Midas ;)

Your thoughts?? Yesterday one of my Flickr friends raises an interesting question whether or not I should have moved the blue recycle bin out of my shooting scene (see image below). It was an intentional decision on my part to leave the blue recycle bin in the photo. My reason’s included 1) I liked the blue yellow colour match, 2) that triangle created by the bin-bikes-yellow building provided a leading line to the colourful building and 3) it was garbage day and in my street photography, I strive to present things as they really were.

For interest, and as a good Photoshop learning exercise, I tried to remove the bin from the image and see how it looked. It was a very challenging exercise and clearly I have to work on my PS skills more. However, I am curious as to your thoughts on whether the image is better with or without the blue bin and why. Thanks.

Thanks Lisbeth for sugggestion.

1. I've never eaten a McDonald's hamburger. Or Burger King, Wendy's or any other of the sort. A single White Castle burger at the tender age of 3 made me hate burgers.

2. I've held over 20 jobs that have included everything from cashier to model to reception and transcription for a law firm.

3. I've been dying my hair for over 16 years, but I was born with red hair that turned blond-ish.

4. I've been in a techno-industrial-dance cover band (called Atomic). LOADS of fun.

5. I'm 5'4", and at one time, I weighed over 180 lbs.

6. I've been vegetarian for ten years.

7. I was terrified of zombies. It was a fear that was bordering on psychosis. And it was all due to George Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead'. Edgar Wright's 'Shawn of the Dead' cured me. Now, a zombie lover, I've been to Monroeville, Pennsylvania to the mall where they filmed the movie.

8. I *hate* U-turn drivers.

9. I'm pro-choice, but would never abort my own child.

10. I'm an atheist.

11. I had a sexual dream about Steven Colbert.

12. I believe that 'The Jerk' is the pinnacle of comic genius.

13. Chris and I occasionally make sounds under the name Informational Terrorism Transmissions.

14. I still play The Sims. If you would like to be a Sim in my world, please let me know! (I won't be *too* sadistic...)

15. I'm a pervert. Really.

16. Even though I take pictures of myself, I hate it when (most) others photograph me.

I don’t wanna be without you babe

I don’t want a broken heart

Don’t wanna take a breath with out you babe

Tagged by Gaia, George, Guy who love blythe and Jane. Thank you guys, and sorry for super delay!

1. I was born in 1973, Showa Era, in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka. I was born at 3:31AM, my weight was 3150g, primiparity for my mom though she had an easy birth.

2. I remember I have played with 2nd and 3rd gen Licca when I was a child. But unfortunately, I don't have them. Maybe my mom did throw them away.

3. I loved Toshi-chan, Seiko-chan when I was an early elementary school child.

4. I met Western music when I was 10 or 11 years old. I loved G.I. Orange and Culture Club!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!! G.I. Orange was a big hit ONLY in Japan, they were clutch player, British idol band though.

5. I met the Beatles when I was 13 years old. My friend Dan-chan was a big fan of them. She told me about everything of them. (She had a many rare records, also videos too)

6. The first concert was the Street Sliders for me. I was sooooo excited, I will never forget the moment when I got a firsthand look at them. They had acted in US bases named Fussa/Tokyo before they debuted.

7. I had an after-school job when I was a high school student. I did a lot of jobs, waitress of beer garden, staff of mover, cash register of pharmacy etc.... I wanted to get a money to go to concert, to buy dresses! Hahaha. I never studied anything(omg!), just go to concert, chat with friends. ;-P If I can return in those days, I want to study English!!!!!! LOL!

8. By way of the high school, I moved to Fukuoka City to go to the fashion school with my friend Masako, she's a childhood friend. We had wanted to break away from our parents. Our parents gave willing agree to it because our parents were friends, too. They were relieved I and Masako being together.

9. I met my hubby when I was 19 years old in 1993(it was before my birthday). I have a crush on him ever since the day we met. Hehehe. However, we're ALWAYS fighting! Our first fight was when we had not passed as much as one month. LOL.

10. By way of the fashion school, I got a job in the fashion company. I did a many things, salesgirl, planning to sales etc... in this company. I worked for 6 years half.

11. My dad killed himself by hanging when I was 25 years old. My families were really broken heart, especially my mom was filled with hurt feelings because she found him. Fortunately, I had my hubby and many many good friends. They picked up the pieces of my broken heart.

12. I moved to Tokyo in 2000 because my hubby had lived in there for work. It was painful choice to me. Because my hubby has already kept waiting for me for even 3 and a half years. But one thing I'm always worried about is my mom. However fortunately, I have sister and brother. So I moved to Tokyo, anyway.

Also my most favorite band named Blankey Jet City has dissolved in 2000. I've never loved any band like them before, and I guess I will never love any bands like them in the future. I still miss them so much.

13. As you can see, I've been crazy about music since I was a child. The music changed my life. The music of Japanese idol, Pops, Rock'n Roll, etc... And I met a lot of good friends, especially when I was in my late teens to my early twenties, and they still keep friends with me.

14. I got some jobs in Tokyo. The desk work in music office, waitress in cafe etc. Sometimes, I had tried to make both ends meet by working two jobs. Yes, Tokyo is too hard to live. And then, I got a desk work in software company. I worked for 6 years and half. Now, I'm looking for a job. Suitable job? Stimulating work? Job suitable to my ability? I still don't know what I can do though, what I want to do.....

15. I met with Blythe in 2006. I had known Blythe since before though it was the first time to know they were able to custom. I saw "Hedwig Blythe" on TIB, and then I thought "Ohhhh!!! We can custom them??? I want to try it!!!". My first Blythe were Samedi Marche Encore and Excellent Hollywood. Of course, my first custom was Hedwig.

16. I joined to MySpace in 2007. Because I wanted to find some doll friends in overseas, Japanese doll circles were looks oversaturated, segmentalized, too much mature. So I wanted to find some overseas friends. Unfortunately, I can't login to MySpace now because I forgot password and which email address I added it..... LOL.

Happily, I have flickr account, so my circle of doll friends are getting bigger and bigger! You're my treasures!!!

Thank you for reading til the end!

I tag anyone and everyone who wants to do this!

Last but not least(it's 17 things, lol), I got married after dating for 13 years in 2006!!

Evening at the edge of Bourne Woods, Lincolnshire. Shot on Ilford Pan F with the Mamiya C220. Film was developed in Xtol at 1+1. I cooked it for an extra 45 seconds on account of the chemicals having had reasonable use and I probably should have left it in slightly longer.

I giorni scorrono via veloci,

Forti dell'esperienza acquisita,

E giù risate a crepapelle.

CANCUN

procedo quasi senza peso,

niente appare volgare fuori luogo.

.. first some time ago by Kate and then by Rebeca .. you lovely nasty girls!!! LOL Huggzz!!!

finally here i am AND actually in the end it was great fun ;)))

.. some moments from SL and finally one RL pic of me as a backgrop.. the real person behind the Salme avie, so to say LOL

AND the famous "16-list":

1. I was born on Sunday around early morning hours in May when chestnut trees were in blossom (mom tells :)

2. I’m natural-born-blond and proud of that

3. I like to laugh at “blondie-stories” … sad thing is that I really recognize myself

4. My fav color is blue

5. My fav vehicle for vacation is motorbike (even if I don’t drive it myself) .. because:

- I don’t need to fill up my car with all possible stuff I “might need” but then never use;

- I love the feel of wind, freedom and power that only motorbike can give..

6. I’m lazy… when i'm not busy LOL

7. …when i'm lazy I love comfort … and sometimes red vine LOL

8. I love various music from classics to modern … but sometimes the best is the silence, then thoughts can be totally free ;) .... mmm.. but often still prefer f.ex Yann Tiersen to silence LOL

9. I don’t mind hanging around alone in forest

10. I'm a cat-person, but don’t mind if my dog sleeps in my bed LOL

11. I’m an eye-animal addicted to natural stones, crystals and silver jewelry

12… and i'm also addicted to people with whom we can laugh together

13. SL is not a game for me .. it’s mind-travelling

14. I don't like to talk about myself…but I love to tell stories of other people.. specially those extraordinary storeis, so to say - simple people - might tell you in roadside takeaway or in train.. if you care to ask . :)

15. Telling stories is also my job in RL… and I think in that sense i'm very very lucky person ;) ...

16. aahh.. and my friends know they shouldn't call me too early in the morning.. i'm very grumpy and able to say only "no" before hanging off.. once my friend called me 7 times every 5 min around 5.30 a.m.. before I agreed to follow her at her unintentional daytrip out of town.. we had a wonderful day in the end and she knew before calling me i'd love it LOL :-))))))

First, dont forget to click on the photo to watch it at scale 1.

I did this photo of a great tit in a very nice light under trees, but I forgot it on my computer ...

As the foreground of the photo was in the light, the background is very dark and the sky looks so blue.

Then the black things that you can see in foreground are branches (as I did it through branches).

Me, proudly displaying one of the baked goodies I made for Christmas dinner, my bro’ Tom took the photo… ☺

Sally (Just Me) tagged me :-) …. so here are 16 random things about me:

1. I’m a happy person…my glass is almost always ½ full…

2. I was in a big hurry to grow up…I graduated from high school in 3 years and completed my mba when I was 22…I am baffled to this day, why I was in such a hurry…

3. I am a sucker for tweed and paisley

4. I’m a 2nd generation American…. 3 of my 4 grandparents were born abroad (2 in Greek Isles, 1 in Czechoslovakia…)

5. I’ve always loved music…from my earliest memories…my Mom placed our coffee table in front of the tv when I was a toddler as I would dance with total abandon anytime music was played (she was afraid I would crash into the tv ;-P)

6. I suffer from vertigo

7. I love to lose myself in films with amazing cinematography

8. I sometimes get panic attacks when driving on the highway

9. Once I got to sit in the captain’s seat in a DC-10 aircraft for about 30 minutes as it was flying over the rocky mountains to San Francisco (I am not a pilot)…it was fantastic beyond words…

10. In one 10 year period I lived in Memphis-Miami-Singapore-Memphis-Hong Kong-Memphis

11. I like geeky, quirky, obscure…remote…things off the beaten path make me happy

12. People often tell me their secrets…since I was a child…friends, strangers, etc…

13. I find it strangely comforting to be surrounded by people speaking a language I do not understand

14. One of the jobs I was offered out of grad school was to be a lobbyist for a gas pipeline company…I had to decline, as I’m a total tree hugger…

15. I love exploring big cities, but crowds make me nervous (can you believe I lived happily in Hong Kong?)

16. Contrary to what the above shot might imply…. I am far from a kitchen magician. I do enjoy cooking, but in the past, the men in my life did most of the cooking. However, I must admit…. the above pie was pretty de-lish… ☺

The Plitvice lakes national park in Croatia is a beautiful place with a lot of lakes connected to each other with even more waterfalls.

It is possible to make a lot of hikes in the park around the lakes and waterfalls.

The park has 2 entrances, this shot has been taken near the entrance 1.

I wish you all a great day my friends!

365(2nd) - 1

New year resolution: to clarify my vision and upgrade my PS skills

Yes, I changed the BG of the shot above.

My son. He kinda looks like me, sometimes ;-P

I should start uploading differently, original is much sharper...

I like the outtake below in comments too, but it does not completely express the resolution i.e. it gained a 2nd place. Anyhow, I adore those colours.

Since I couldn't resist, I then combined both to get the result in the 2nd comment and I have a feeling the last one will end up on his FB as the new profile pic ;-)

Day 001

1/1/11

Previous 365 on Day 1 I was admiring a mother

After watching this nest for weeks, nest #1, I finally got a photo. This nest had only one eaglet so it was nice to see it survived to fledge.

I think the BnW version is much better for this photo

The Verona Arena is a Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Bra in Verona, Italy built in the first century. It is still in use today and is internationally famous for the large-scale opera performances given there. It is one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind. In ancient times, the arena's capacity was nearly 30,000 people. The stage for concerts and opera performances decreases the available places to a maximum of 15,000.

Tagged by Alana (Voodoo_Child_91). I can seriously recommend her photostream. It's a lot more interesting than my facts!

1. I'm lucky enough to have been born in Scotland and lived there for all of my 54 years.

2. I was a bit of a swot at school and came top in most things, except art. I can't draw to save myself!

3. I studied at Edinburgh University back in the 70s and learned how to stop being a swot and have fun instead. Somehow I managed to come out with a law degree.

4. My dad, in his later years, was a church pastor. Hence my wife insists 'our song' has to be Son of a Preacherman'.

5. I love ice cream!!! Had the best ever in Callander recently - caramel shortcake flavour :) Yummy!!

6. I am a bit of a football fanatic. When there's a game on TV, I am banished upstairs to watch it - as no-one can put up with me shouting at the screen. Even the dogs go into hiding!

7. I love rock music and the blues :) Can't stand jazz or boy bands!

8. Our house has become known as Mid Calder Zoo since we have always had multiple pets plus a few rescues. One of the crows we rescued still lives with us!

9. My favourite holiday destination is Jamaica. It's the only country outside Scotland that I would even consider retiring to.

10. Finally, I am a bit of a sci-fi fan. Really love Dr Who. I've never missed an episode and still watch the repeats. Never hid behind the sofa, though, when the daleks appeared!

A 14 photo stitch using Hugin. Photos on my old Lumix TZ-1 (I think that is the correct model). A little enhancement in Pixelmator Pro. There were, in fact, 21 photos (3 rows of 7) but I cut out the middle row to see if it was needed. Verdict: not really except for some blending issues.

3.All my interest is FR dolls!

We found this really great view at Gamboa Point on Highway No 1. I loved the lonely palm trees at the upper beach. In the background you can see the bridge over the Big Creek Cove.

Macro Mondays: Edge.

In this shot of the Pacific Tree Frog (Hyla regilla), there are two edges represented.

Edge 1: I was trying to capture the leaf edge to show how thin the support structure was for it's perch, a Blueberry plant; which nevertheless, is sufficiently strong enough to support the frog's small 3/4 - 2 inch frame.

Edge 2: The most important edge of all. Amphibian's populations worldwide are declining rapidly and becoming extinct (approx. 200 sp. to date), due to chytridiomycosis, a fungal infection. The fungus is in British Columbia, and from what data I could gather, the Rough-skin Newts and Western Toads are among those at risk.

The Pacific Tree Frog, so far, has not been affected. This could be due to the fact that the frogs with extra moist skin, who like to sun themselves for longer, kill the fungus on their skin with the sun's heat.

So, this shot, which I darkened the surroundings to represent the impending doom for so many species worldwide, stands for those amphibians hovering on the edge of non-existence.
