100 years ago art movement De Stijl was founded, with Piet Mondrian as its chief representative. The city of The Hague celebrates this event by adding his well known primary colors and lines on buildings throughout the city in 2017
Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rottredam, Kop van Zuid, Wilhelminabier, New Orleans, High rise, Alvaro Siza, Facade, Windows, Loggias, Curtains.
The 'New Orleas, one of the iconic highrise of the Kop van Zuid. Alvaro Siza didn't design many highrise and he didn't clad them in marble either, but the proportions of the facade and use of loggias is recognizable. To me, the building always looks a bit like a square version of the güiro - an Afro-Caribean percussion instrument.
This is number 1241 of Minimalism / explicit Graphism and 66 of Facades.

This was the first day Maasvlakte 2 was open to the public.

The cantilevered opened bridge deck of the Erasmus bridge (2006) strikes quite a pose when seen in close proximity of the rhythmically articulated 'De Rotterdam' high rise (2014): hotel (left), municipal offices (middle) apartments (right).
Another shot from last weekend. In the distance, you can see the windmills of Kinderdijk.
Have a nice day everyone!

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, Oude Noorden, Bloklandstraat, Coen Moulijn, Hans Citroen (cut from B&T)
As announced, the street soccer monument dedicated to the legendary Fijenoord striker ('linksbuiten') Coen Moulijn is shown here.
Coen Moulijn (1937-2011) grew up in the Bloklandstraat in Rotterdam's Oude Noorden quarter. The wall against which he had played football endlessly in his youth was famous, but it fell victim to urban renewal in the 1970s. In 1990, a playground elsewhere in the same street was provided with a new "wall of Coen Moulijn", designed by Hans Citroen.
This is number 14 of Wilma's pics and 378 of Rotterdam streets.

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Den Haag, Amare muziekgebouw, Stair case, Hall, People (cut from B&T)
The Amare education & culture building with its 4 concert halls has a delightfully intricate structure to accommodate the concert halls, lobbies, foyers and restaurant.
The building was designed by NOAHH/Patrick Fransen, JCAU/Jo Coenen en NL Architects/Kamiel Klaasse. Jo Coenen left the project prematurely.
The building houses the Dance and Music centre, the Residentie Orchestra, the Dutch Dance Theatre and the Royal Conservatory and actually consists of five separate buildings: the outer shell and four separate boxes - the concert halls. They each have their own foundation to prevent the rest of the complex from being affected by ‘crosstalk’ vibrations of one building hindering the others.
This construction allowed two of the four concert halls to slightly sag. As a result, the doors of one of halls and the hall of the royal conservatory can hardly be closed anymore. As a temporary solution, parts of the floor covering has been removed. . Building sinking is by the way a not uncommon thing but sagging isn't. It's problematic since it's happens partially / a-symmetrically.
Shot near the great hall with fascinating decorations during an extended Den Haag lunch with Leuntje. There was still some construction work going on, as you can see in the left of the frame.
This is number 38 of Theatres & Concert halls.

Europe, Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, Rotterdam, Maastunnel, Tunnel of Love (cut from L, R & T)
A few days ago he good ol’ Maastunnel in Rotterdam had its 77th anniversary. To celebrate this, the tunnel for pedestrian (the lowest of the three tunnels the Maastunnel actually consists of) was transformed to a ‘Tunnel of Love’. Very much the same way as the Dommeltunnel during Eindhoven Glow festival (2011): the normal lighting is changed to black lighting and the wall and ceilings are covered with heart-shaped reflective stickers. In addition to the Dommeltunnel (shown: here ) in the Maastunnel thee pavement was covered with a black wooden walkway, also with the heart stickers. Which made the visual effect more immersive. (users of tripods beware: the wooden walkway vibrates due to the many visitors passing by - this shot was handheld). Both the Dommeltunnel and the Maastunnel were transformed by: Studio Vollaerszwart.
Considering the somewhat checkered reputation of the Maastunnel - before the installation of camera's and the permanent presence of security personnel some ten years ago, the pedestrian and cyclists tunnels were scary and 'socially unsafe'- there's some irony in the transformation and its title.
Number 13 of the Tunnel vision album.
